The Walking Dead Issue 181 allowed Pamela and Rick to get more acquainted while Mercer and Princess made for an unlikely duo against a herd of walkers. So what did you think of the issue? Will Rick and Pamela actually start to get along? Will Michonne really make a life for herself at The Commonwealth? And what the hell’s going on with Princess and Mercer? (We ship it) Tell us in the comments for a chance to win a Robert Kirkman-signed copy!

Previously: Eugene returns Michonne’s sword to Rick, breaking the news that she’s chosen to stau behind in the Commonwealth with her daughter. Governor Milton arrives at Alexandria, only to be confronted by the Dwight-led military. Rick orders him to stand down, then sends them off with mercer to guide the rest of the their visitors to safety. While they wait, Rick gives Pamela a tour of Alexandria. It starts off friendly, but it’s clear that these two leaders don’t see eye to eye on how the world should be run.

Wow! What an a hole Milton is! Man, she couldn’t even aploigize To Mercer! It definitely shows the status level. She’s above and he’s below. I’m actually loving that in the storyline because it’s never been done before in a comic. I love princess! She saw an opening and went for it! Lol such a great character. I think Governor Milton almost getting Mercer killed and then not apologizing will be another step for him to betray her. Which we saw him another guard talk about. It definitely feels like that’s what’s coming. A take over.
I’m excited for Michonne and her daughter but it feels to good to be true. I definitely don’t trust what’s going on at the commonwealth. And where is Stephanie? We had all these issues that built up to her character only to see her a few times. I thought her and Eugene would be allies.
All around great issue! We had a little Maggie, a little Aaron and Jesus, Michonne, walkers, loved the mention of the Whispers. I’m glad the Hilltop is back on track. I can’t wait for Maggie to meet Milton. Can’t wait for next month!!

I agree with Tifflove you get the feeling Mercer has had enough of Milton and will eventually turn on her at some point. Princess is non stop love it and the kiss with Mercer brilliant. Very wild west feel to this issue with the way they decide to Shepard the herd. Great Issue loved it.

I think that Mercer is getting closer to betraying Milton and if he does do that maybe he would tell rick real dark things that Milton has done that no one knows about. Also I’m really excited about princess and Mercer I think it could be a great relationship.(SHIP IT). Also I’m very excited to see what happens when Milton meets Maggie. I loved the issue AND SO EXCITED TO READ THE NEXT ONE.

This is going to be a great series! I really like how the story is developing and how The Governator is kind of testing everyone to see how strong they really are. I dont know that Rick should trust her so much but I am really enjoying the direction of things. It feels new but also back to the old days of herding walkers. LOVE IT!!

I swear I saw Beta in the group of walkers around page 9 of this issue… Maybe he isn’t dead?

I thought so too at first. I think it’s just another walker though.

This was a great issue (as is every issue) however its not as great as many of the others we have had in recent months. I think it will be best read in a volume or compendium than a stand alone issue as it is. That being said I really liked many of the parts in this issue, so lets go through them in order:

Oceanside! Wasn’t the last time we saw that back in issue 139? And we saw just a bit more than last time, still enough to get me hyped, of course. Maybe this could be a traditional thing so every 42 issues we see a bit more of the community lmao. Also I don’t know what Maxwell is on about, that looks more like a ‘massive fucking ocean’ than any inlet I’ve seen :p. Bit sad we didn’t get to see Pete again and maybe some other residents (maybe some from RtS?)

Michonne and Elodie are definitely going to get into some trouble now that Michonne has an ‘upper-class job’ the cover of issue 183 is looking a little worse for them now I think about it.
Looks like Carl has made a new friend (ironic how his name is Josh) I hope they become like best friends in a Rick and Shane or Maggie and Brianna sort of way because if I recall, Carl has never had a long term best friend that we know of (unless you count Sophia or Lydia in a way). I could be wrong but I got some big ‘Whisperer return foreshadowing’ from Maggie. I would love to see a reanimated Beta in a small herd or somewhere at some point I think that would be cool.

I noticed something that has given me a little bit of hope for Princess! Rick gave her several concerned’ish looks this issue so either Rick already doesn’t like her (which is likely the case) and/or he is concerned that she will be a threat to Alexandria which I hope is the case (not in a villain sort of way but more of a Patricia type antagonist where she starts to hate the place and helps someone sabotage or escape prison or whatever because she has become a sort of outcast that nobody wants anything to do with (sounds sad but that’s just because I’m awful at explaining things) looking forward to seeing more of Princess’ relationship with Rick as the issues go on.

When reading The New World Order arc I was incredibly surprised that nobody asked anything about the armour I was super happy to see it get a mention and even come into use! (so thanks for that lol, speaking of the armour when are we going to see Mercer wearing a badass red helmet? He has to have one somewhere right?) I like how Mercer seems to be slowly letting out his frustrations with Pamela; about a year from now I will look back on this and be like “wow he was super subtle then” after he has done something unspeakable to her probably. Some things I didn’t like were the Princess and Mercer interaction (sorry Skybound but I don’t ship it) It felt forced to me and I can’t see where its going to go other than a possible relationship though Mercer did seem shocked.

I think that’s about it for this long-ass review, I think I’ll give this a ‘good in a volume’/10 don’t really know what else to say.

    P.S. poor Dwight

Mercer has new options- why betray Governor Milton and the Commonwealth when he could now move to Alexandria, the Kingdom, Hilltop or Oceanside?

Even if the Commonwealth is ripe for rebellion or civil war, wouldn’t the choice to emigrate be a pressure valve opening for the ambitious at the bottom of the Commonwealth Caste system.

If Rick is getting the grand tour of the Commonwealth, think about this.

The armor would have saved Andrea.

Rick needs to find out if it is manufactured today, or if it is a remnant of the time before.

Can it be bought? Or traded?.

Can we tour the armor factory?

Does the Commonwealth have plastic surgery?

Carl, Dwight, and anyone else who Negan “ironed” might want a face lift.
