Something They Need
The cat’s out of the bag – Tara finally tells Rick about Oceanside and their grand armory. Needing guns to make good on their deal with the Scavengers, Tara escorts Rick & the crew to the secret community of women and children, where they plan to steal their weapons. Michonne gets in position at lookout, Aaron and Eric find time to argue, and Daryl and Jesus set dynamite around the perimeter.
Meanwhile at the Sanctuary, Sasha’s nearly sexually assaulted by a Savior (David) until Negan arrives. He realizes what David was about to do, warns he has zero tolerance for rape, and stabs him in the neck. He then realizes he recognizes Sasha, hands her his knife, and tells her she could help him run The Sanctuary someday. Later, Eugene tries convincing her to join The Saviors, but she sends him away.
The next day at The Hilltop, Gregory tries to make peace with Maggie, who advises him it’s never too late to change. He briefly considers killing her while her back’s turned but decides against it. Suddenly, a walker attacks Gregory and he begs Maggie to save him, which of course she does (it’s obvious he’s somehow avoided dealing with walkers up close until that moment).
Tara infiltrates Oceanside, holds Natania and Cindy at gunpoint, and reveals she needs their guns to fight The Saviors. Natania takes too long to agree and the dynamite detonates around the community. Daryl and the others round up the Oceanside community while Natania and Sidney overtake Tara. Natania arrives to the action with a gun to Tara’s head and demands Rick and his people leave. Michonne has her rife trained on Netania’s head in case sh*t goes down.
Tara tries convincing them again to join their war against The Saviors but Natalia refuses. Suddenly, a horde of walkers arrive, Sidney pistol whips Natalia, and Rick’s group unites with Oceanside to decimate the undead together. Despite their seamless cooperation, Natalia instructs Rick’s group to take their guns and leave, which they do. Meanwhile at The Hilltop, Gregory packs his bags.
Back at The Sanctuary, Sasha agrees to help broker peace between Negan and Rick’s groups. “Tomorrow is going to be a BIG day,” he warns her. Later, Eugene tells Sasha she made the right choice but she asks him to help her kill herself so she’s NOT used against Rick’s group. The next day, Eugene reluctantly slips Sasha a poison pill.
That night, Rick and the gang return to Alexandria with their new guns and Rosita informs them, “There’s someone here.” She escorts them to the jail cell, where Dwight is sitting quietly. Daryl launches at him but Rick holds him back. Rosita tells them he wants to help them, so Rick holds a gun to Dwight’s head and demands, “Get on your knees.”
WHEW! What an episode! Give us your reaction in the comments below.
WOW! Mind blown! I have no idea what I was more excited about: Dwight finally showing up to help or the quick peek at the finale!!
Great episode…Father Gabriel, impressive. Someone needs to take care of Gregory or he is going to bring trouble. Eugene needs to be gone too…jackass. I can’t wait for all of the communities to come together
Of course Gabriel is impressive. He’s a starship trooper!!
The big question is. Who’s gonna eat a bag of Sasha?
YASSS that’s exactly what I was thinking the entire episode ?
YASSS that’s exactly what I was thinking the entire episode, glad to see someone agrees
“Get on your knees” … Holy Fuck… Rick is gonna make Dwight his bitch… haha
Oh my… i never even thought about who Sasha’s gonna eat…
I feel like, Sasha will be taking, Holly’s place. Maybe she’ll eat, Rosita? Maybe, Tara?
Hope to see Negan’s back story at some point. Maybe devote a quarter of season 8 perhaps?
Last night was great! You even saw Negan be somewhat human protecting Sasha from the Savior Dave. It is great to see the group working like the days of the beginning….together. Can’t wait until next Sunday!!
Rapey Davey, got killed for trying to rape, Sasha but, Negan doesn’t do anything without a reason that benefits him.
Negan senses strength and intelligence in Sasha. Not to mention a source of information regarding Rick’s planned uprising. He thinks that “saving” Sasha will make her think she “owes” him. He has underestimated her.
Negan is against rape period, he would have punished David no matter who he was trying to rape.
I hope Shiva outlives Ezekiel, then it would be time for a spin off show. The adventures of Shiva and Jerry!
Prediction – Eugene is working with Dwight on a plan. Only playing along ATM until said plan is in place.
I agree with you. Eugene is working on something. Besides there is one more pill left!! Somehow if that could be ingested by Simon…perfect!!
I was let down by how the killing of David was portrayed. Negan was way too calm and had such a lighthearted tone, which doesn’t match the character at all, given how much he hates rape. I was hoping to see JDM actually give Negan a fiery attitude, but…nothing. It could have been such an intense scene and it was just flubbed, imo.
Yep, big point in the comic for understanding and deepening Negan’s character. In the show, it was really flat, disappointing. Rest of the episode was great though!
Great episode last night!! How in the world is Daryl/Tara going to be able to work with Dwight?? Oceanside went down easier than expected. Can’t wait for next week…but then October is a long time from now.
Sashay needs to chomp down on Enid. That would be the greatest heartbreak. The full weight of Sashas decision will be felt. Maggie who has lived through the most loss so far will once again be fueled by the deaths of her two closest friends. Gregory doesn’t stand a chance after that.
She lost Glenn (who had ties to enid) and Abraham (sasha) in the premier. In the finale she will lose enid and sasha.
Been out of the loop these past couple weeks. Sunday’s episode had a lot going on. It easyly could have been pushed to a 90 min. That might have opened up room for deeper moments from our favorite characters. I also sometimes think enslaving the actors to make break free The Walking Dead 52 weeks a year is acceptable. Gregory is HIGHLY unstable, and I completely agree he is likely to fuck something up. By not being a comic book reader I though Negan was super badass as usual. It appears from the comments though he was flat here where in the CB he got deep. All his big woman balls/nuts was great. Loved it. Sasha was a chump though trying to play Eugene. Boohoo she got a pill instead of a knife or razor. I’d be just fine if Eugene stayed right where he is. Doubtful though. All the Oceanside business was rushed, though I was kind of distracted and that may have been the real cause. I’m on the fence whether the barnacled zombies cool or corny. What were your thoughts on them?
Those viewers who have been whining about how The Walking Dead has been going nowhere when Negan first overpowered Rick’s family, need to simmer down.
The series writers have done the right thing. They’ve gradually built momentum. leading the oppressed communities toward a climactic rebellion.
My god. Attention spans have simply gotten too short since the advent of the Information Age.
I will concede that the series does badly need to reestablish a series arc. It had a series level goal when Eugene led everyone to believe that a cure was in the offing. TWD does need something along those lines, and not just season or episode arcs.
