The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 10 remixed some major moments from Robert Kirkman’s comics and we’re here to break down all the comparisons found in “Omega.”
Lydia & Henry
As we’ve mentioned in the past, Henry is exclusive to the show and mostly exists to carry out comic Carl’s storylines. The major difference here is that in Issue 136 and 137 of the comics Carl befriends Lydia against Jesus and Maggie’s wishes, while in the show Daryl uses Henry to get information from her. Also, Carl was locked up for beating up a couple of douche bags that attacked Sophia, while Henry’s in for being the lamest teen at Hilltop. But in both instances, the Henry/Carl talk about their communities and quickly develop a bond with Lydia.
Weird Flirting
In both mediums Lydia and Henry/Carl’s relationship gets…weird. In the show, Henry busts her out at night and takes her to the Hilltop garden, where she teaches him how to eat worms. After that, the date goes where all dates go – that cute moment when the girl grabs a hammer and almost smashes the guy over the head with it. Thankfully, Lydia hears a baby crying, gets PTSD, and makes Henry take her back to the cell.
A WAY more disturbing scene plays out in the comics. In Issue 137, Carl also busts Lydia out of jail and takes her to the Hilltop garden to hang, but instead of eating worms, Lydia LICKS CARL’S EYE SOCKET. I mean, it eventually helped Carl overcome his insecurities about having one eye, but still. Oh, and instead of nearly killing Carl with a hammer, THEY HAVE SEX. Like, right in the open for everyone to see. You think that’s crazy? Afterwards Lydia tells Carl that was the first time she’s voluntarily had sex (yeah, the Whisperers are dark as FUCK in the comics).
Alpha’s Arrival
Now to that shocking ending. In the show the Whisperers arrive at Hilltop and Alpha introduces herself, asking for her daughter back. This scene is nearly identical to the source material, except in Issue 138 of the comics – Maggie, who’s still around, meets Alpha outside the gates. In the show Alpha just addresses everyone outside of Hilltop. We’ll see much more from this scene in next week’s episode.
What Didn’t Happen in the Comics
Outside of those similarities, there were some moments that didn’t happen in the comics. For starters Tara, Alden, and Daryl don’t exist, Carl never blabbed about Kingdom like Henry did, Lydia didn’t have an ear infection or arm scars, Kelly and the gang never left to search for Luke (because he wasn’t missing), and Carol died years ago. And that wraps up all our comic comparisons for The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 10! What were your favorite moments? Would you eat worms to impress a crush?
