The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3: “Thank You” Recap & Discussion

Back to where we left off in the premiere: Rick and the gang sprint through the woods to escape the hoard of walkers headed toward Alexandria. Rick quickly devises a plan involving placing the herd back on track with the RV. When Michonne and Glenn question his decision to go alone, he reasons, “(The Alexandrians) are not all going to make it.” Basically, they’re screwed without them. Suddenly, a walker takes a bite out of one of the Alexandrians that earlier questioned Rick’s motives (karma’s a fast-acting bitch). Michonne puts him out of his misery as the horn stops.

Michonne, Glenn, and Heath lead the others in taking out walkers Age of Ultron-stlye in the forest. Sturgges (AKA Worthless Alexandrian #147) accidentally shoots Scott in the leg and he and his dumb hat run away. After saving Scott, David ALSO gets bitten by a walker from behind. After he kills it he concedes, “I know what it means…We have to keep moving.” Ignorance really IS bliss! Meanwhile, to the chagrin of Sasha and Abraham, Daryl improvises and drives off to help Rick. STAY SAFE DARYL, FANS LOVE YOU TOO MUCH.

On the road now, a doomed David tells Michonne his backstory and how he wants to say goodbye to his wife before he turns. The group reaches an abandoned town where Nicholas had previously left his crew to die (back when Nicholas sucked). They enter an alley where a group of walkers feeds on Sturgess, which mentally triggers Nicholas into his dark past. Nicholas snaps out of it just in time to lead them into an abandoned pet store to hide. Glenn proposes burning down a building for a distraction but Michonne objects. “You have a wife, Glenn.” “That’s why I’m doing this,” he retorts. Nicholas decides to join Glenn to lead the way to the feed store they’ll burn. Glenn promises if they get separated he’ll SOMEHOW show them he’s OK. Glenn radios Rick to catch him up on the plan as Rick goes full Carol on three walkers. No really, he grabs a machete out of one of their faces and uses it to kill the rest. It was incredible. (ALSO Glenn said, “Good luck, dumbass.” Shout out to that Season 1 reference from their first meeting)!

Annie and Scott ask Michonne and the others to leave them behind because they’re slowing them down. “We don’t leave people behind,” Heath shoots back. After trading dirty looks, Michonne asks Heath if he has a problem with her. He reminds her Rick said the Alexandrians wouldn’t all make it but Michonne would. Michonne scolds Heath about not being as experienced as Rick’s group. “You haven’t been through it…Have you ever been covered in so much blood you didn’t know if it was yours, the walkers, or your friends? Then you don’t know.” Take THAT, well-intentioned Heath! Just goes to show you don’t have to be in a restaurant to get served. Back to Glenn and Nicholas’ mission…they both come upon a walker stuck under a car who Nicholas seemingly let die. Now that he’s changed his ways, Nicholas puts the walker out of its misery and is overcome by emotion. IT’S OK NICHOLAS, YOU’RE NOT THAT GUY ANYMORE.

Back to the pet store! Distant machine gun fire from Alexandria (wonder what’s going on there) draws away the walkers outside of the store. Knowing he’s doomed, David writes a letter to his wife and hands it to Michonne, who gives it back and writes, “You’re getting home.” Surprise! There’s walkers in the back of the shop, who Michonne easily takes out. Unfortunately, the noise attracts the attention of a sizable walker group outside. Michonne and the others break out of the pet store, where Annie falls and becomes consumed by the walkers. Michonne, Heath, and Scott make it over a gate as walkers surround them. Unfortunately, David’s not so lucky and gets his face torn apart through the fence. Michonne and the others, now a MUCH smaller group, are forced to leave.

Meanwhile, Glenn and Nicholas also find themselves surrounded by walkers. Despite their best efforts to take them on one by one, they’re forced to retreat on top of a dumpster, trapped. Nicholas, who’s in a state of shock by their situation, tells Glenn “thank you” before placing a pistol to his head and PULLING THE TRIGGER. His sudden death causes him and Glenn to BOTH FALL OFF OF THE DUMPSTER INTO THE WALKER HERD. THE WALKERS GRAB AT HIS CHEST AND PULL OUT HIS INTESTINES. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

WHAT’S THE POINT IN EVEN FINISHING THIS RECAP?! OK, FINE. *Deep breath* Michonne and Heath help Scott through the forest…WHY DOES SCOTT GET TO LIVE. WHY DOES LIFE CONTINUE TO HAND OUT DISAPPOINTMENT AFTER DISAPPOINTMENT?! SORRY, I CAN DO THIS. Ugh, so OK, Rick, who spent the entire episode on the run and took the RV by the makeshift walker death fence contacts the others to tell them of his plan. He hears gunfire (The Wolves) from Alexandria but there’s nothing they can do. Suddenly, two of the Wolves (that Morgan let go in the last episode) break into the RV and attack Rick. He shoots and kills both of them along with the rest outside. Michonne, Scott, and Heath make it back to Alexandria, where several buildings are burned down and the watch tower is cracked.

Daryl meets back up with Sasha, Abraham, and the dead parade of walkers. Suddenly, the RV Rick’s in becomes surrounded by walkers as his RV refuses to start. An entire herd crosses the field and overtakes the RV…

1. Whhhyyyyyyyyyyyyy???????
2. How will Rick get out that RV nightmare??
3. What does this mean for Negan?

Me too. At this point, with Glenn gone (even though there are plenty of other characters we love) – Daryl is really the only one I could see Negan beating to death with Lucille. Do I want this to happen? No. But I could see it going down that way. I just don’t think there’s anyway the show will not do that scene in some way – it is still to this day one of the most heart sinking and gut wrenching moments in the comic. Glenn’s death in the comic had such an impact on the group. This death was even more tragic in a way as they had no closure with him and I’m sure nothing will be left. I noticed some people are holding out hope that Glenn is still alive and that it was Nicolas that was being torn apart on top of him. While the camera angle allows for this, IMO Glenn’s face said it all. I will miss you, Glenn… I wonder if the show will get into Maggie being pregnant? And the way the RV scene with Rick was so reminiscent of the Tank scene was really neat…too bad there’ll be no Glenn to save him this time.

    4. Any later reveal that he is dead for sure would be seriously anticlimactic. Unless he shows up as a walker

      5. Most characters start bleeding from the mouth when they’re killed by walkers.
      6. Glenn looks more like in shock from Nicholas being devoured rather than dying.
      7. The scene where you look at them from above, you can’t see Nicholas somewhere else, this must mean that he is on top of Glenn, or maybe underneath him. (I’m guessing on top)

Oh… and also… his name is Yeun.

If Daryl isn’t Negan’s entrance kill, I’m going to be disappointed. You just gave the person who has been in the show the longest (other than Rick) the Lori treatment by killing him in the third episode of a season instead of a finale. If anyone deserved plot armor, it was Glenn, not Daryl.

    • BASTET. October 26, 2015 at 3:28 am - Reply

I’m thinking “fan armor” instead of “plot armor” & I believe Daryl has that. So I place my bets on Abraham meeting Lucille. I would prefer Daryl.

I’m totally cool with the moments when the show goes rogue and does what they want with the characters. It keeps me guessing, and I like still not knowing if even Rick will survive the next episode. Although I think they will keep Rick alive, they have proven that they can and will kill off anyone at any time regardless of the source material. That being said, I hope Negan kills Daryl also. Of all the future deaths, the one I really want to see go down on the show exactly like it did in the comic is Abraham’s. Getting the bolt through the back of the head and through the eye socket during a speech was priceless. The way he kept going as though his brain hadn’t caught up to what just happened was great.

For sure Rick will be rescued. He has the walkie-talkie and will eventually get the crew to draw the walkers away from the RV. You can hold out hope for Glenn, but Nicholas isn’t going to feed that many walkers and unless Glenn starts smelling like one of them, he’s done. There’s a ninety minute episode next week so it should be packed with thrills and chills.

  15. KingDead October 25, 2015 at 8:12 pm - Reply

I’m hoping Glenn not being mentioned in the memoriam means he’s not dead but he’s screaming and not answering the walkie talkie. This could be bad. And if he is dead then Daryl is def the top pick for negans entrance. Him or Morgan albeit they survive no way out. Smh. Every episode like a season finale…. Bravo Kirkman. You assholes are pulling through on that word lol

  16. John_Skanes October 25, 2015 at 8:12 pm - Reply

This was fantastic. It had to be done. Not everybody can survive this. As much as I loved Glenn on the show and in the comics, at some point everybody is going to die. You miss these characters but you eventually fall in love with some of the newer characters. There are going to be plenty more to love if the comics are any indication. I did think that Glenn’s death in the comic rocked me more. Just the brutality of the whole scene and the fact that it happened in front of sophia and maggie made it so much more intense. If they are going to still do that scene for Negan’s first kill, the only logical choice would be Daryl. Nobody else could give that same kind of impact at this point in the tv series.

  17. Peaceful October 25, 2015 at 8:13 pm - Reply

I don’t believe Glen is dead. The shows writers want us to believe it that’s why there weren’t any cast members on the seat of the Talking Dead. I wish I was in Vegas. I’ll bet Glen finds a miraculous way out. Remember the other guy fell on top of him. I believe he’s alive. If I’m wrong I’m wrong but I don’t think I am.

That is some poetic justice if Nicolas’ death leads to one of the most badass saves of all time. Glen is just gonna walk outa there and right up to the gates of Alexandria with the rest of the walkers.

Re watching episode got me thinking. Nicholas throughout episode kept zoning in out and then coming back to reality. I think he zoned out again on top of the dumpster and zoned out thinking about if he shot himself he would be killing Glen also. Shooting himself would be another way for him to leave another behind. I think the episode after Morgan’s will be Nicholas coming back to reality to fight with Glen to get out of that situation and make it back to Alexandria.

They’re risking some serious continuity errors with this RV thingy. It only took a few zombies to get inside the RV with Jimmy, so I dunno how they’re going to play off the zombies not getting inside with Rick.

This episode was by far the most heart retching, and most intense one in a while. What will happen to Rick emotionally? What will happen to the original crew with Glenn possibly being gone?

  32. BillyHo October 25, 2015 at 11:54 pm - Reply

Nicolas… was just about to give him some credit for starting to man up and do the right thing. Then he punks out and shoots himself in the head potentially killing Glenn in the process (yes the posts here are giving me an odd sense of false hope that I should not be clinging too), all hope for any looking back on Nicholas with somewhat fond memories… all dead.
Rick taking out the wolves in the RV… I just kept yelling “Kick his Ass Seabass!” during that entire portion. And it just made me so mad that yet once again… Morgan and his inability to kill non-walkers is showing to be the reason why so many of his own people are dead, or risking death situations. I am going to be glad if he is the one that actually gets a Lucille moment.
Looking forward to the next show more then the one I just watched.

And on a side note… as I watched Nicholas and Glenn on the dumpster. Sorry but I for one would have been jumping for the fence and bush area behind Nicholas. I know there were walkers directly behind the other portion of the fence but saw none in that bush/tree area.

Ok from re-watching frame to frame, it looks as if Glenn crawled under the garbage container, he is screaming but it looks as if he is pulling him self under in the last few frames. Hoping that my eyes didn’t fail me and hope this is not how he dies. Usually when a major character dies there is some closure with the rest of the main group. For them not to give him that moment is kind of heartless which is why I fear that Glenn is dead. Hands can also be seen covering the one spot that you can see Glenn’s head i the last shot before it cuts. Rambling on… Let’s see what happens next week!

So, under normal circumstances, my wife would have been crying if Glenn had really died. However, it was shock and disbelief. Something just didn’t feel right.

Then after watching the seen over, Glenn roles under Nicholas.

I think Talking Dead further confirmed Glenn didn’t die by Chris’s announcement that no cast members were on the show because they wanted us to talk it out, etc. This has never happened before. Major cast remembers ALWAYS come on the show, and always get a memoriam.

My bet is that Glenn is not dead, he got under the dumpster. Some loud explosion or sound will divert the walkers away, and he’ll get out.

The sucky thing is that the next episode looks to be 100% on Morgan, before he met up with Rick again, so we will have a bit of a wait in this little cliffhanger.

  39. jaysmusgrave October 26, 2015 at 4:18 am - Reply

I think Glenn is dead, there isn’t any real way out of the hole he’s in. Even if that wasn’t his insides, that had to be his fate. To me it didn’t look like Nick fell on him. I’m disappointed that they had to make that event a cliff hanger instead of just granting us closer and letting the healing process begin. But nooooooo, gotta leave that room for doubt… I couldn’t even really appreciate Rick’s murder spree in the RV.

Not sure how EVERY reviewer missed why Rick’s RV wouldn’t start. That first Wolf that broke into the Rv wax shooting at Rick, Rick dodged and the whole dashboard got hit and looked like everything shorted out. Also love how Rick told everyone not to go running back to town because they were scared of what was happening with the gunshots , then he finds Judith’s baby food in the wolf’s pocket and now he’s scared and wants to run back to town. Lol.

Im thinking..and hoping..and praying..maybe all the blood and guts aren’t from Glenn, maybe the blood and guts now being all over Glenn will keep the Walkers from attacking him..much like their plan in Season 1 when they wore the Walker guts to be safe amongst the Walkers. One can only hope..and pray..and get the point. I think Rick will exit the RV and seek refuge in the house that was right across from the truck. Stressful episode, I do love that no one is safe..It’s brilliant.

Read this quote carefully: “Nicholas, who’s in a state of shock by their situation, tells Glenn “thank you” before placing a pistol to his head and PULLING THE TRIGGER. His sudden death causes him and Glenn to BOTH FALL OFF OF THE DUMPSTER INTO THE WALKER HERD. THE WALKERS GRAB AT HIS CHEST AND PULL OUT HIS INTESTINES”.
“him” and “his chest” refer to Nicholas here, if my english is correct.
So… Glenn lives? For how long though…

Yeah, the writer for this review was very careful with their words here. I’m not sure how much knowledge they have about future scripts though.

The way they’ve handled the whole thing definitely seems like they are either: A) Giving Glenn the strangest send-off in the history of the show (No big scene with Maggie before his death, no in memorium on TTD, no clear death shot), or B) They are trolling the hell out of us.

I’m leaning towards B, because they left just enough room for him to possibly survive, and they’re leaving it hanging for at least another couple weeks (looks like next week is all morgan).

  44. grimeyrick October 26, 2015 at 8:34 am - Reply

as sad as i am to see glen go. (so sad wtf) I will be so upset if they make it a dream/hallucination, or some other excuse like he got under the dumpster. I love glen, but i love twd more and that would be a total cop out to pull that. Kirkman doesn’t do fake out dream sequences, and i would be really upset to see that steven over acted someone else getting eaten. like that man’s face said “OH SHIT NOT MY INTEs.. FUKKKKKKKKK”
also, there really is no way out (pun kinda intended) of this situation at this point. even if that was nicholas getting eaten and glen “hid under the dumpster,” the walkers are on the floor, eye level, and they are completely surrounded. if he escapes, it would be pretty ridiculous tbh. you cant hide under the body either, like the walkers are going to be selective about where they are grabbing.. it just would be a really far reach, and would be a real sell out move. Kirkman is the man because he has been able to make the tough decisions. everyone is worried about “they wouldn’t kill someone that everyone likes because ppl would stop watching,” which is frankly pretty stupid. im looking for realism, and similar from what dave said on the talking dead, its like an episode of 1960’s batman; adam west is tied to the joker’s machine and he is for sure doomed! stay tuned for the next episode, crusaders! This isn’t that show and i don’t want it to be that show. i want to have feels and i want to feel loss, because realistically, someone isn’t going to make it just because they are liked. it is deeper than “pointlessly killing a character.”
to all the people that are upset and outraged, saying that this is for shock value– glen’s character has had a time stamp for a long time, and it is only happening slightly sooner than it would have otherwise.
in regards to talking dead, it does leave the door open for glen to come back in the show, but they are on the same boat as us. they don’t know if he is gone and they don’t want to jump to conclusions. personally, i hope the “closure” and “piece(s) of glen” we may get/see in the future is either his walker among the crowd, or his body still being alive (similar to jessie in the comics, when they are cleaning up in the aftermath and she is there in pieces, still a walker, and they’re like “don’t let rick see her”). I think we do need some closure, and they purposely left the window open to keep us on our toes, but i strongly want to believe he is dead (as wrong as that sounds, and feels to say). He will likely be on talking dead on his zombie/corpse episode after the morgan special next week. in regards to the pics of him walking with jesus.. well they would still need him on set to film his post death scene, it would be easy to stage some scenes with him there to throw the spoiling dead and other spoilers off. literally just have them do the scene with glen, then without. it looks like they are just walking anyway. Hell i wouldn’t be surprised if steven stayed for the rest of the filming. he is an original, since the first episode.
Sad to see him go, but when it’s time, it’s time.

    • Elk October 26, 2015 at 9:06 am - Reply

I completely agree with everything you’ve said here. But what if and this is pure speculation and I’m not even sure how I would feel if it turned out to be true. But what is Jesus shows up and because the walkers are distracted eating two bodies he takes out a few of them and lightens the load and then him and Glenn (who is under nicholas) go to town and clear them out together. The one thing that gives me pause is that no character has died the same way in both the comics and the show so maybe this was Glenn’s tv death since I know he isn’t going to be killed by negan. I mean this is highly unlikely but just a thought.

      • grimeyrick October 26, 2015 at 9:50 am - Reply

it’s possible. i mean if they do pull “glenn is alive” out of their ass, he wouldnt make it out of that situation without anyone’s help. I’ve heard speculation that it could be enid as well. but jesus is a good idea as well. whatever they do, i really hope (and trust) that they will do it within the realm of belief.

    • grimeyrick October 26, 2015 at 10:02 am - Reply

to add to my previous ramble, it looks like glenn fell with his feet at the base of the dumpster, but when said intestines were being eaten, it looks like his head is against the dumpster. so more iffyness to ponder..

Glenn will pray to Jesus, and Jesus will save him.

Also, Morgan and his no longer relevant morality is a liability. The psychopathic murderers he let go with a warning almost killed Rick? Someone needs to take him out. I could see kirkman hooking up Morgan with Lucille as well…only problem is no one would care.

    • BASTET. October 26, 2015 at 10:33 am - Reply

I’d care. I love Morgan. I think he’s thinking that if there’s a chance that those on the wrong side can change, that’s better than killing them & there’s hope for humanity. After all, he’s been through a major change himself, so he knows it’s possible. I think people will have a better understanding & maybe even appreciation for him after this coming Sunday’s episode.

yeah, i think it is a little ridiculous that people are giving morgan too much heat. clearly the fans have been “out there too long” and are quick to dismiss humanity. i was actually just saying last night that it is almost a tragedy that in such extreme circumstances people would rather loot and shamelessly murder their fellow man before helping them. they need to unite as people to make it as a civilization and it will always take someone (who will look like a kook at the time) to get the ball rolling. we are getting some story behind morgan in the next episode (cant fucking wait). everyone is super judgmental about his humanity and stick skills, so hopefully this will lay that to rest. i dont get why everyone is so resistant to morgan

Even tho that was a heart breaking nerve wrecking episode I just and say this show is awesome. I live the changes they make from the comic. That make more believable story lines in the show. Yes we all have favorites but everybody must die. I was happy to see Morgan back but not now. The way he’s been pussy footing I want him to die more than I want father Gabriel to die. He’s too soft on Threats. He’s forgotten who he was from Clear and he needs to realize he needs to be a mix of both who he Is now and who he was. HE HAS TO CLEAR he has to stop letting potential threats live . the rabbits foot isn’t going to bring him that much luck. He almost got Rick killed letting all those wolves go. He’s pissing me off. Kirkman… Gimple… Introduce Morgan to Lucille. Puhleaseeeee he’s letting me down

Glenn’s demise ( or lack there of) will be a mystery for awhile I think. Next episode will deal with Rick, and possibly Maggie and crew going out to look for Glenn. Maybe Maggie will go off on Rick for letting Genn go in the first place. That is when we will see the balls of steel Maggie. Deanna is pretty much checked out by this time.
I loved the comment in TD about how we will see Glenn in someway, or some part or some form of him. ENDLESS possibilities there! I was thinking at first it might allude to his baby with Maggie ( when we find out she is pregnant).
Of course we know Jesus is going to be on the show, so maybe he and other Hilltop-ites showed up just in the nick of time to save Glenn.
Negan,, has it been confirmed he is even going to be on the show? If so I missed that. I personally think Negan is the best villain of all, but I don’t want to see what they will have to do to him to get him on the show. After all dialog like ” Hey you Beep Beepers be prepared to be Beeped!” isn’t all that great. Maybe he should just exist in the comics.

I definitely think it’ll be in that form that we’ll see glenn: during a post-no way out reconnaissance. Gimple assured us closure, and that could totally mean maggie finding his corpse (walking or not) similar to meryl in the show, or jessie in the comics. I think it is pretty much set that glen will not be meeting lucille. Kirkman even flat out said “Glenn is going to meet negan and have his brains bashed in by lucille” on @midnight a while back. I feel like that’s enough to confirm that they are not going to go down that road. way too predictable anyway. other than amy and jim, i don’t believe we’ve seen a straight-out-of-the-books death. (i may be wrong? but idts)

Glenn can’t be dead because Lucille is hungry.

That’s all anyone needs to know.

    So many people said Glen would die every season, so this scared me sooooo much. I cried Manly tears ;-;

I expected Glenn to die this season, but not like this. Because of that message from Scott Gimple on Talking Dead, I think there is a pretty good chance that Glenn is somehow still alive and that this is one big fake out. Which seems cheap and shitty. Especially if he is going to die at the hands of Negan later.
But if he is really dead, then wow. Did not see that coming. And what a horrible way to go.
I guess this also means we’ll never to get to see him step up to the plate with Lucille.

One of the BEST episodes in the series. BUT WHY the fuck would you pay Norman Reedus, DARYL did nothing this whole fucking episode. Drove around on his bike. Waste of money in my opinion!

I vote with my money, if Glenn is dead, I won’t be renting another episode via Amazon Video. I’ll find another way. By the way, why does the story have the two supposed badasses “Daryl” and “Abraham” taking a joy ride the entire episode? while Glenn and Michonne are giving the viewers their money’s worth

I wish the comic book readers would stop talking about Negan and Lucille and who he’s going to kill first. Why don’t you just let the show play out instead of acting the spoiler. From the comments on this board, it doesn’t sound like they’re a perfect match anyway.

The comics are AWESOME & we LOVE them here! So we’re gonna talk about them… can’t be helped. I only wish people would tag their comments with “comic spoiler alert” out of respect, but that seems pointless these days because most everybody loves spoilers for some stupid reason.
      You asked me this above:
“So if Morgan, who didn’t get any wolves converts to his humanitarian crusade, costs the lives of good people, that’s okay with you?”
~It’s not OK with me for any of them to die, but I’m not going to place blame here. Just like with a Wolf having Aaron’s bag… these things happen. I’m not gonna hate Aaron because he lost that bag. The Wolves probably would’ve eventually found Alexandria regardless. There is no ill intent on Morgan’s part. And as I stated above, there’s a time to kill & a time not to. Should Morgan kill? Yes, & I believe he did kill the one at the end. I think this will be his personal struggle. Should he kill EACH & EVERY TIME? No. The one on the ground Carol blasted could’ve given useful intel. We can probably go back on all of them & find a reason to place some sort of blame somewhere ,but are any of them really to blame for their actions? HELL NO! Their intentions are GOOD & that’s the difference.

This is true, and I feel us comic readers tend to forget that a lot of the show watchers don’t read them. I know I have been guilty of these transgressions in the past and will do my best to stop. That being said… if you only watch the show, I highly recommend you do read the comics. Though the shows are great, the comics are infinitely better.

Ideally I think that you are correct. In reality, you believe that Carol (housewife and mother), Rick (protect and serve policeman), Glenn (pizza delivery guy), Maggie (farmer’s daughter) etc. were what they are now all along? I’m not trying to argue, I just like to hear other perspectives on the social consequences the characters are forced to live under.

        • BASTET. October 28, 2015 at 3:15 pm - Reply

I’m not taking you as being argumentative & I’m not being argumentative either. I love a good debate & exchange of ideas. Being open-minded & expressing opinions can be enjoyable as long as those involved understand what that means.
Carol, Rick, Glenn, & Maggie have changed… they all have, understandably. But I don’t think the apocalypse has changed who they are. Carol is still the motherly figure, although I think she fights it & tries to play it off. Rick is still all about protecting & serving… hardcore now, but still protecting & serving. Glenn & Maggie simply toughened up. They’ve adapted… and I guess you could say that they also changed their nature to fit this apocalyptic world (trusting/not trusting people, is what I’m thinking). But they are still good people & I think they were good people prior to the apocalypse. I always imagined that Philip Blake was a decent guy but he let the apocalypse or maybe even his wife’s death change who he was. In Eliot’s quote, the people cannot be defined as being evil, only the result is evil. I understand what you’re getting at, tho… I’m just taking it a little deeper. 😉

Ok, so if I am not mistaken, they said BITES OR SCRATCHES kill you before… My question is, how would a SCRATCH kill you if WALKER BLOOD BEING MIXED WITH YOURS DOESN’T??? This is the only thing I don’t understand. I thought that Rick said when Tiny was scratched at the prison he was going to turn… So, if scratches CAN kill you… Glenn being alive would be pretty unbelievable considering that even if they can’t bite him under that dumpster he could still be grabbed and ripped open… My heart wants him alive, but my logic wants him dead… because I wouldn’t want this show to start getting unbelievable…

Also, Rick possibly getting walker blood in his hand was my initial reason for bringing up the “walker blood mixing” thing… But I veered off when I thought of Glenn cuz… well… frankly, it sucks BALLS.

Glen making a miraculous escape would be too fantastical for the realism that the show is trying to portray. As much as I love the character, I think they did a wonderful job killing him off in an epic, completely unexpected and still shocking way. Glen’s death is supposed to cause an uproar, it did in the comics, and needed an equally shocking an unexpected death in the show, and they accomplished that, all the cries for Glenn to survive and the outrage that fans have at the decision proves they did it right. I will be very disappointed if they bring him back and have him make it out of that situation alive, it will make him seem too invincible and that’s not what the show is about. Glen dying suddenly and with no one else to see it was the perfect juxtaposition to his death in the comics, and even though it was shocking an unexpected, it was the most plausible death for the role his character played. He was always running off to help save the group, but this time he just didn’t come back, like Maggie always feared would happen. I really hope we see a Walker Glen at some point later on down the line 🙂 But he’s gone, escaping that situation would just be too cheesy. Just like in the comics, Glens show death is there to remind us that no one is safe in this world, no matter how bad ass of a survivor they are, there are a million things that can go wrong at anytime, and it just takes one for it all to be over. I for one was totally satisfied with how it all went down and give the show writers huge props for making glen’s death equally as epic and gut wrenching, even if it was in a completely different way, they still accomplished the same reaction. The point of building up the main characters that way is so that we’re that emotionally invested in them when it’s time for them to go. This season has been phenomenal so far!

I believe! #GlennLives!!! …even if it’s only long enough to meet Lucile.

    • pgilbride October 27, 2015 at 3:36 pm - Reply

Walkers crawl under shit all the time in the show, just because he could have shimmied under the dumpster, doesn’t mean he would be safe there. And who’s left out there to save him? Rick’s trapped too. Daryl, Sasha and Abraham are headed away from him. Michone, Heath and Scott left him. Morgan is already back in Alexandria. I think the Enid theories are dumb and equally not lot likely or realistic theories. Maybe, that’s how they introduce Jesus, by having him save Glenn, but still I come back to the fact that if Glenn can get under the dumpster, the walkers can follow him. It’s totally not a safe option, I don’t know why everyone acts like if he got to the dumpster he’d be all good, it doesn’t make sense. Plus, having a fake death for Glenn would cheapen his real death whenever the time came to actually kill him off. He’s not going to be the one to meet Lucille, even if he does survive this somehow, no major death has happened exactly the same on screen as it does in the books. Having him miraculously escape what should be an unescapable situation would be a horrible turn for the show to take and I would be very disappointed.

Seriously…. as my wife and I watched this go down, my wife kept asking me “Why am I not crying?”. I told her its probably shock and disbelief. So two things, and it sucks because this is kind of lose lose. If he did die, its a crappy anti-climactic way to go, next to some jackass who we don’t care about. Of course, it would make sense because Glenn’s kind heart saved him and he paid for it.

If he does survive, its not anticlimactic, its just somewhat absurd given the amount of walkers he’s surrounded by.

Either way it won’t ever stop me from watching and continuing to watch.

On another note, does anyone feel like Daryl’s time is coming up? I feel like they have been minimizing his role deliberately to lessen the blow when he goes. Personally, of all the characters, I would least mind seeing him go. I guess count me the odd one out.

  63. insta-gator October 28, 2015 at 7:55 am - Reply

Glen is not dead!! Think about it! A little trick photography made it look like he is done but he is not!
Why? Because it is not so much that they would kill off a main character. But how could they be so punishing on the survivors! In the beginning, Maggie was feeding chickens to her walker mother in a barn, then otis ,and couple of other family members at the farm. Then she see’s her father’s head cut off to a tyrant, then her baby sister get’s shot by another human. Let’s not forget she was seperated from Glen for quite a while and then gets him back, only now a little while later now to lose him. She has lost more family and friend’s than any of them . So, yes he still lives and by the way JSS stands for ” just stay strong” that’s what her parents told Enid to think of whenever she feels scared.

My god!!! So many comments! Personally, I’m on the Glenn is dead bandwagon. I don’t see how he could of escaped from a horde of that size with nothing but a small knife and a corpse on top of him weighing him down. After looking at images, Glenn couldn’t of gotten under the dumpster due to the opening being too small. Even though Glenn;s death was pretty awful in terms of how it played out, I still think they should stick with it so that we know that the show aren’t scared of killing off main cast members.

The more I think about the ambiguitity I gotta say, FUCK THIS EPISODE!
Either Glenn lives through an impossibly deleterious situation by accident (fuckin stupid, baby time frolics).
Or Gelnn dies one of the most pussy, unnecessary, aggravatingly simplistic deaths (FUCKING STUPID, BABY TIME FROLICS).
Either way, justice has not been done to the character. Glenn would never go out like such a punk ass bitch. I know he got his head beat to a pulp, but it was for the greater good of the group. This shit was so uncharacteristic of the character I gotta wonder if the writers didn’t have a person grudge towards Stevie.
They should have just killed Carl, I wouldn’t have fucking cared.

The only way I could see a worthwhile survival is if Glenn saws off his legs and gauges out an eye cuz zombies were gnawing on them. Otherwise, shenanigan based death

    • BASTET. October 29, 2015 at 6:06 am - Reply

But Tonnie2NA, you’re making it sound like Glenn chose how he died. And no matter how major a character is, they gotta go for realism.

      • Tonnie2NA October 29, 2015 at 11:36 pm - Reply

Realism!?! I know this is a zombie show but come on, that was not realistic for Glenn’s character in any way. When I say uncharacteristic I mean exactly that. Glenn stupidly put himself in the worst situation. Going on an incredibly dangerous mission with only a hypothetical solution and without considering the closeness of the herd (even if he lit that fire, what then?), choosing to follow someone who only a few hours early was considered an inept waste of human life, not going up the fucking fire escape that was easily accessible, popping off a few rounds into a herd of thousands only to realize “shit, my glock 17 may not have enough bullets to get the job done.” All around, there is a bad smell in the air after this scene; and I don’t think it has anything to do with all this texmex I’m eating.

  66. KalOfTheDead October 31, 2015 at 3:38 pm - Reply

I don’t know if I’m in denial or not, but I know that when I saw it happen I lost my shit and totally believed it. Even if you are in disbelief you still know deep down that Glenn’s chances of surviving what happened are slim. I don’t know if people will continue to take the show seriously if they miraculously pulled him out of there because he’s an important character (unless Jesus saves him. Then I’m good). Besides, it would be unfair to other minor characters who could’ve survived their death scenes. But I keep telling myself this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about, it’s possible that they’ve figured out some unexpected way to make this work. To make him live without making it seem so cheesy and blow our minds as they often do. BUT ALSO BECAUSE this is The Walking Dead we’re talking about this could very much be real.

Let’s assume Glenn’s dead, hypothetically speaking. What worries me the most (and I’m losing my mind already) and y’all have thought of this too, is whose head is Negan going to bash in? The obvious choice would be Daryl. It’s clever to kill off the most popular character when finally introducing a character like Negan, it’s that kind of shock and trauma Robert intended to deliver in issue 100. That being said, I think it could be Abraham’s skull Lucille will be kissing. I mean Abraham dies in the comics too (his death was so anticlimactic btw and it still pisses me off to this day). But think about it, Abraham dies in issue 98 and doesn’t live to meet Negan. Before this episode was out I said to myself “as much as I love Glenn I would like to see issue 100 be adapted to television exactly as it is. Panel by panel. Word by word.” and then this happens. Who knows what they’ve got planned for Negan’s glorious arrival.

But yeah, I guess part of me is still hopeful. Of course I want him to live, and he could! but don’t be surprised if he didn’t. I guess we’ll have to wait ’till next week to find out. Until then, enjoy a 90-minute episode of Morgan and his stick.
