The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 15: "East"

Carol: Out

The episode opens ambiguously with close ups of blood, a flattened car wheel, and Carol’s rosary abandoned on the ground. Looks like Carol found herself in some trouble outside the walls of Alexandria. Rewind to before Carol wrote her farewell note at the end of 614. She and Tobin share one last moment before she sneaks out that night. The next morning Glenn and Maggie share a shower, Abraham and Sasha share a romantic moment, and Rick & Michonne share an apple. Rick assures Michonne that they’ll fight to protect Alexandria no matter who tries to attack.

Daryl rides out of Alexandria and Glenn, Michonne, and Rosita follow behind. Morgan and Rick soon follow after. Carol drives in the stolen car with spears (looking like Mad Max) and finds herself under fire by a truck of Saviors driving the opposite direction. Her tires blow out and the Saviors implore her to get out of the car.

Zero Dark Carol

She plays innocent but they know she has pertinent information. “I’m nobody, really. Nancy…from Montclaire,” she lies. They figure out she’s from Alexandria and offer to give her a ride back. She begins hyperventilating and begs them to leave before someone gets hurt. They move to grab but she mows them down with a machine gun that she hid in her giant coat sleeve.

The driver survives and starts shooting at Carol. She narrowly avoids the bullets and shoves one of the car spikes into his chest. She takes his gun and tells one of the remaining survivors to come out slowly. Later, the passenger wakes up to discover the bloody scene around him. Morgan and Rick arrive and try to piece together the details. Rick questions one and then stabs him in the head after he doesn’t respond. Rick can’t help but feel proud of Carol for taking them all down. They proceed on foot to search for her while the passenger returns to the scene and follows them.

Meanwhile, Glenn, Michonne, and Rosita return to the tracks where Denise was killed. Michonne discovers Daryl’s bike nearby while Rosita has second thoughts about helping him. Later, they find Daryl in the woods and try talking him out of finding Dwight. “It’s going to go wrong out here,” Glenn pleads. Daryl proceeds with Rosita while Glenn and Michonne follow behind. Glenn and Michonne find themselves surrounded by The Saviors and Dwight, who points a gun at them.

Loose Ends

Morgan tells Rick he heard about the prison incident where he sent Carol away for killing two of their own. Rick says he’d side with Carol if it happened now. They arrive at a barn and confront a survivor who claims he’s trying to find his horse. The man gets away and Morgan prevents Rick from shooting him. “I don’t take chances anymore,” Rick reasons. Morgan tells Rick about the main wolf he kept prisoner in Alexandria. “You had one of them alive…in the community?” Rick asks, dumbfounded. Morgan tells him about the Wolf saving Denise and Denise later saving Carl. “It’s all a circle,” Morgan concludes. Morgan tells Rick to return to Alexandria while he continues the search for Carol. Rick hands him a gun for protection. In a rare moment of friendliness, Rick adds, “Michonne DID steal that protein bar.”

Rick returns to Alexandria and discovers Michonne is still out there. Enid cuts Maggie’s hair and Maggie experiences excruciating baby pains. Back to the woods, Glenn and Michonne are tied up and Daryl arrives to rescue them. Suddenly, Dwight appears behind Daryl and SHOOTS HIM IN THE BAAAAAAAAAACK!!!

Holy shit of an ending! The previews are what got me… Lucille looks even more vicious than the comics.

Daryl shot in the head? Shoulder? And where is Carol? Great episode and next week people (non comic readers) will be stunned. We all will.

Was that guy looking for his horse wearing knight armor?? Maybe from the Kingdom????

Nice job needlessly putting lives in danger there, Daryl. Hoo boy what an ending, though! And what a promo for the next episode! Next Sunday can’t come fast enough!

You are correct… I just realized that this is all Daryl’s fault.

Daryl left to go find Dwight on his own, the others chose to follow him so i dont see how it would be his fault?

To be fair he could of killed D when they first ran into each other but even then he realized that D was just trying to protect his own

Are you kidding me? Daryl ran out blindly to chase an enemy he knows **NOTHING** about. He stands the risk of being killed or kidnapped. He could be tortured for information. He could be used as a bargaining chip by the Saviors to push Rick’s group to do things they don’t want to do. People like Glenn were smart enough to see this and chose to go bring his dumbass home. Unfortunately trailing after everyone’s “favorite” redneck they got captured. It is completely Daryl’s fault because he chose to be STUPID and put his ego on the line, not once thinking of the consequences. Daryl should have known with even three seconds of thought what a security risk he was making himself to be. He should have known, knowing his group, they’d come after him. He should have known Glenn and Michonne were obvious bait. It’s his fault they got captured and its his fault he’s been shot.

You do NOT chase an enemy down when you know jack shit about them and other people are depending on you. This is completely Daryl’s fault.

          • Tonnie2NA March 29, 2016 at 8:02 pm

If Daryl lives through the weekend then he will likely feel the weight of what he did. He is gonna be trouble for Rick in the future as Daryl will likely not cease his bloodlust any time soon, and Rick is gonna want to play the slow game.

Daryl will survive this just so we can see him tortured by the lives lost on his account. Sorry to whoever’s baby daddy or snuggle bunny is about to get their skull cracked!

I thought he was wearing kingdom armor too. Dwight is a way bigger dick on the show then in the comics I think so far.

It sucks to know that I will someday I will enjoy seeing Dwights fucked up face. This is not that time

Daryl letting Dwight live will atone when it is realized that Dwight helps Rick defeat Negan.

Also, heard a pretty cool theory that Carol kills Morgan and let’s him turn and eat her. Woah. Talk about crazy.

  7. Glenn24Rhee March 27, 2016 at 8:36 pm - Reply

Please for the love of God… do not kill Glenn or Maggie. I have a horrible feeling that one of them will die. Glenn meets Lucille or the baby dies and tears its way out of Maggie. At this point, it wouldn’t make much sense for Negan to kill Glenn. Daryl is the obvious suspect. He has killed so many of Negan’s men. He has taken so many story lines from other character’s like Tyreese and Abraham… I think it is time for him to go. I also feel like some people may get what they wanted from Carol’s character, she might just become Alpha (A- for Alexandria or the A marked train car at Terminus).

WOW!! LOVING how the end og the season is beautifully taking shape!! They seriously thought this out!! GREAT!

Morgan’s rationale for the circle of life and not killing the wolf falls apart when you analyze the fact that if he had killed him from the very beginning when he first ran into him while he was looking for Rick he would’ve never come to Alexandria and killed off all those people. Then all Morgan’s rationalized circle for what the wolf did because he kept him alive would never have needed to be done because he would’ve already been dead and would not have rained down total destructiion on Alexandria to begin with!! Morgan needs to give up trying to rationalize being a pacifist and step up and start killing them off like everyone else the way it should be done!!

    • grimeyrick March 28, 2016 at 7:14 am - Reply

this is actually a huge misconception and people try to use it as a valid argument against morgan when it really isn’t. if he would have killed him in the first place it wouldn’t have mattered. there are dozens of wolves and that trap was already set. aaron and daryl would have still gotten caught in the trap, aaron would have still dropped his bag, the wolves would’ve still found it and they would have still found alexandria. the only difference is that without Owen, the wolves would’ve stayed back and planned their attack, which as a result would likely be more devastating. The only reason they attacked when they did was because Owen was being hasty to get medical treatment. Otherwise the attack would have been more calculated and likely resulting in more casualties.

With so much happening in this episode I almost forgot about the Savior that survived the encounter with Carol, but suffered what looked like a broken arm. With him following Rick and Morgan, and with the preview clearly showing Rick back in Alexandria, I’m assuming he’s going to run into Carol and/or Morgan in the finale.

Also, just the next episode’s name makes me tremble: “Last Day on Earth”

  13. seanmathews1 March 28, 2016 at 4:37 am - Reply

    Random observations and thoughts…

Why do they keep going back to that bloody forest? It’s brought nothing by trouble on about 4 different occasions now. You think they’d learn by now.

Carol obviously should had known writing “Don’t come after me” wouldn’t really do anything.

I thought Abraham was going to get popped by a sniper when he was talking to Rick at the gate about relationships. Glad that didn’t happen.

So…. Daryl? Dead? Alive? That was a ton of blood for “You’ll be alright.” Is Dwight keeping him alive on purpose? Out of deep down understanding Daryl could have killed him but didn’t? They are like Batman and Joker now.

    Next week’s episode looks insane.

Who was in the middle of the road? It wasn’t Daryl. It almost looked like Carol’s coat, or Morgan. I suspect that its Morgan.

Surprised they didn’t name the episode “Something to Fear”. That would have made more sense.

Negan, at least from the backside, looks spot on. Lucille looks even more terrifying that the comic version. I’m glad they went for the comic book look as opposed to what they did with the Governor. Of course, I think the show governor had a better look than the comics. It’s night time when they meet. Good thing too, as it might shadow a very gory moment.

Who gets Lucille? My money is still on Glenn. Maggie cut her hair. Symbolism. Glenn is a goner. Of course, who knows? Maybe Negan will take two.

And again… Daryl? Where was he shot? How does he play in to this whole thing?

    • Glenn24Rhee March 28, 2016 at 9:57 pm - Reply

I don’t feel like Glenn’s death would have the same horrible feeling. Glenn’s death for me personally would be horrible, but I think that Daryl has been way over used and it’s just his time. He has taken on to many story lines, at the cost of other character’s development. He took Tyreese and Abraham’s roles and it is getting a little annoying that everyone Daryl somewhat cares for dies just to further him (Goodbye Merle, Beth, Denise…). I do though think that either Glenn or Maggie will die in this episode. Glenn by Negan or Maggie by her baby (Baby dies inside her and tears its way out? If that can ever happen).

P.S. I am going to be pissed if Glenn gets the bat strictly because Dwight feels the need to protect Daryl just this once because Daryl let him live episodes ago.

      • seanmathews1 March 29, 2016 at 4:09 am - Reply

I agree. And it would be interesting if Maggie dies and Glenn lives. I can see that. What we fail to realize is that unlike the comics, these are actors. Actors have finite time on shows. What’s to say that Cohen hasn’t decided to pursue bigger movies and wants an out? Or reedus, or anyone else? People can get written out at the flip of a switch. So yeah, maybe in the TV show, Maggie dies and Glenn lives. Wouldn’t that be a twist?

        • Glenn24Rhee March 29, 2016 at 8:48 pm - Reply

But then you have to think about Glenn’s biggest purpose to fight in this coming war. He loses his wife and baby… I don’t see him being in the best frame of mind. Maybe just the fact that he couldn’t be with her when it happened or something like that would be enough reason. Rick lost it when Lori died, which compared to everyone else who has lost more, like Maggie, seems a bit crazy. Rick loses his wife and Maggie loses her farm, neighbors, horse, father, and sister.

Can’t wait for next week. Just seeing the preview with Negan and Lucile gave me goosebumps. I don’t think that Daryl is dead. It seemed like he got shot in the shoulder plus you can hear Dwight saying that he’ll live. We’ll find out in a weeks time

  16. BarbaLucy March 28, 2016 at 8:40 am - Reply

Amazing. I STILL cringe every time I see Abraham thinking he will get the arrow in the eye. Even though it would be old hat by now. Speaking of that, where the heck is Tara? They mentioned she wasn’t back yet. Everyone else was.
The Negan tease was wonderful. I was up and cheering.
Carol could be the one to save Daryl, and the rest. She is still out there after all and still has the gun.
I really don’t think they would kill off Daryl.. yet.
Now that everything is neatly in place for Glenn and Maggie to move to Hilltop ( Dr Denise is gone and Hilltop has an Obstetrician, and Maggie basically told Glenn she can’t live that way anymore) it sets up perfectly the gang on the road to Hilltop, and meeting Negan and Lucille. I still think Glenn will be up to bat.
The part that really amazed me was Rick saying he would leave the WHOLE CAMP in Father Gabriel’s less than capable hands. What a 360 that is! Granted he has been redeeming himself, but what type of a leader would he be in a blood bath situation? Carl would have been a better choice.

My first thought after seeing the guy at the barn was he was from the Kingdom and looking for the horse since they had lots of horse there in the comics if im not mistaken?? I think one member from the captured group and one member from the group in the previews is gonna meet Lucille. (abraham and Glenn).. Cant wait for next sunday!

  18. CORAL March 28, 2016 at 4:04 pm - Reply

Also, was I the only one that noticed that the gun Carl picked up in the beggining of the episode had a wired baseball bat? What a FUCKING tease!

I keep getting a visceral, sinking pit of the stomach feeling that Daryl and Glenn are diversions and that Carol is the one who going to fall to Negan/Lucille. I hope I’m wrong. When Rick and Michonne hooked up at first I thought Carol might now follow comic Michonne’s path, but all the recent attention Carol has been getting makes me think she’s doomed. She’s my favorite character, I want her and her heroics around for a long time! Please, not Carol!

Two things i’ve been thinking lately:

1 – What if Dwight’s words (“you’re gonna be ok”) at the end are not for daryl, nor rosita, but for the audience? like, there are a bunch of people who are always saying “if daryl dies we riot”, and maybe that’s just the producers teasing us saying “no, you’re not rioting, you’re gonna keep watching” lol. I think it would make sense on the context hahah

and 2 – Wouldn’t it be awesome if one of the characters of the comics were introduced on “fear”? Like if we could have a glimpse of the past of someone like Magna or Dante, for an example, and if they lately are reintroduced on twd?

Sorry if the theories are just bullshit, i’m a little high on walking dead these days lol
(and sorry about possible grammar mistakes)

    • CORAL March 28, 2016 at 4:20 pm - Reply

The first one I don’t really know. But the second one is awesome. I would love to see Magna’s backstory!

      • Glenn24Rhee March 28, 2016 at 10:07 pm - Reply

Why though? She is basically a useless character. I don’t even know why Kirkman made issues surrounding her group specifically. They showed up and did literally nothing. Hopefully he has a great plan for her and her group, and not just a bunch of randoms deaths.

        • Neutral-Grey March 29, 2016 at 3:36 am - Reply

Magna’s group was used as a plot device to show how Rick’s group has fundamentally changed from before. Rick and Douglas have many parallels from the outside perspective and Magna is strikingly similar to survival mode Rick. Their group serves the purpose of showing us the clear window between “the Survivors” then and them now.

But for what little bit she was doing, she was kickass. I really hope she becomes more prominent. Something about her strikes me as very powerful. She’s got that same “no bullshit” attitude with the flair Rick has. I think if used correctly, she has the most potential out of all the name characters introduced in the last couple years to actually become an important regular.

        • CORAL March 29, 2016 at 5:40 pm - Reply

I think in the future she is going to have a big role, just like Father Gabriel will. We have a developing arc, and having Magna’s group is a big advantage especially because they have survived in the wild just like Rick’s group back in the day. Kirkman is a genius and there’s no way he would make such a useless character and have 2 or 3 issues just focused on her and her group for no apparent reason. Atleast I hope she has a bigger purpose…

I think Daryl takes a shot to the hand. As Dwight stands behind him, Daryl lowers his crossbow and begins to raise his left hand in surrender. Just as he does this, Dwight shoots.

Anybody see the sneak preview on talking dead? Gabriel stepping up like a motha fuckin BOSS. And finally they have a plan set up for evacuation. If they had something life this at the prison they wouldn’t have had to wander around aimlessly for 8 episodes.
Lets get a poll going of who will get the bat. Morgan is who I hope for, but Carol is who I think will actually meet with Lucy

    • grimeyrick March 29, 2016 at 12:15 pm - Reply

it is a reference to Carol. I believe that Rick had been under the impression or implied that Carol was on her way to dispatch some saviors, but Morgan makes a note to him, pointing out that the savior’s compound they attacked was to the West, but Carol’s trail leads to the East.

Well Saturday everyone can OD on season 6 working up to the final episode. I’ve read everyone input and it sounds very cool. I’ve got to tell you though, i got a chance to read up on the comic part of TWD and I really didn’t care for it. I guess I am just spoiled from the TV show. To think not long ago I could not sit through a show like this one, then my daughter turned me on to it and I am hooked. I have watched all the earlier episodes so many times I could create a game myself. lol.
oh, just a little ad in, anyone happen to see Sasha and Maggie on the Lip Sync battle, they were awesome. Can not wait until Sunday.
    peace out.
