The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 12: “Not Tomorrow Yet” Recap & Discussion

Carol struggles a lot this episode in balancing the person she used to be with the (sometimes) murderous person she’s become. She starts the episode by playing the former version of herself by distributing cookies (while Poor Old Shine’s “Weeds or Wildflowers” plays in the background) to everyone in Alexandria. Rick and the gang return to town and Morgan confronts Carol about their fight, which she says to leave in the past.

Rick gathers everyone in town into the church sanctuary and catches them up on The Hilltop situation. He proposes they fight The Saviors to ensure their safety and survival. Morgan questions the morality of killing a group of strangers and pleads they speak with the Saviors first. Rick decides they’ll kill the Saviors instead and demands Alexandria accept it.

Carol updates her murder journal while Maggie convinces Glenn she must be a part of the plan. Later that night, Carol smokes with Tobin on his porch and they share a romantic moment. Meanwhile, Abraham informs Rosita he’s leaving her. JUST like in the comics, Abe explains, “When I first met you I thought you were the last woman on Earth…you’re not.” (Ouch). Tara tells Denise she loves her and Denise says she’ll reciprocate when Tara returns. Andy from The Hilltop draws up a blueprint of the Savior compound and suggests they take out the Saviors while they sleep and raid their armory. Rick hatches a plan to give them Gregory’s head.

Rick and the gang drive out of Alexandria and split up on foot to find a walker who resembles Gregory. Rosita approaches Carol about not exposing Morgan’s hypocrisy in the church earlier. Glenn and Heath find and kill a Gregory doppelgänger and Rick goes over the midnight plan again. “This is how we eat,” he justifies. Carol scolds Rick for allowing Maggie to come along and demands she stay back with her. Rick examines the potential Gregory heads and PUNCHES one of them repeatedly to get the nose right.

The plan begins. Andy drives up to the Savior compound and shows the Savior guards “Gregory’s” head. They buy it and promise to return Craig. Savior 2 leaves while Daryl slits Savior 1’s throat from behind. Savior 2 emerges from the compound with Craig and Michonne stabs HIM from behind. The gang enters the compound and searches for the arsenal. They begin murdering sleeping Saviors one by one.

A Savior ambushes Abraham and Sasha quickly takes him out. In his dying breath he pulls the fire alarm. Maggie hears it outside and tries to help but Carol stops her, “You’re supposed to be someone else. You are staying here.” Andy drives Craig back to the Hilltop as Jesus prepares for battle. Inside the compound, Rick shoots down a group of Saviors and makes a B-line to the armory. All of the Saviors are now awake and doing their best to kill Rick’s group.

Glenn and Heath get trapped in the armory and use the guns inside to mow down the Saviors on the opposite side of the door. Jesus arrives and takes out the last one. Father Gabriel starts spitting Bible verses to a downed Savior before he (FINALLY) puts him down for good. The next morning (morning?) the gang emerges outside (to Hozier’s “Arsonist’s Lullaby)” where a remaining Savior rides out of the compound on (Daryl’s) motorcycle. Sasha shoots him off, Daryl tackles him and Rick points his gun at him. “Lower your gun, prick,” a woman on the Savior’s Walkie Talkie demands. She tells everyone to lower their weapons and says, “We have a Carol and a Maggie.”

Us comic readers no what the Polaroids were… And it made me cringe.

Great episode. This season has been phenomenal.

Those pictures were definitely chilling. Who do you think will get that treatment?

      • Spector99 March 6, 2016 at 7:15 pm - Reply

I feel like making Glenn look at the pictures was just to make us cringe and go “Oh no! They’re gonna kill him!” It seems too obvious, so Negan will probably get someone else.

      • Glenn24Rhee March 6, 2016 at 7:31 pm - Reply

It will be between Daryl and Glenn. Sorry people, but take Daryl. Obviously by my name I love Glenn. They keep tossing hints at Glenn’s Lucille death, but they also throw hints Daryl’s way. Like his bike and bow being taken away was stripping him of his armor and when the bikers attacked, Daryl was stabbed by one of them, and it was right in his wing (of his vest). People look to Daryl as a savior (Not that kind of Savior) or like a guardian angel, and I think this angel is about the lose his wings.

Do you think Tara is going to die? I saw the Kirkman was originally going to kill Glenn in issue 75 which was when he was on a run with Heath and had to climb a rope or something. I personally think that same scene will go down, but Tara will fall and die. She did promise to return to Denise and Denise would regret not saying she loved her.

Definitely chilling. The writing was literally on the wall in those polaroids. Even if it’s not Glenn, I have no doubt it will be a main character. Daryl gets my predictive vote. I don’t want to say that it was “nice” to see those pictures (’cause that makes me sound like a sadist), but it is nice to see that Lucille has been getting her fill and that she will soon need to be sated again. I am glad they seem to be following the source material so far with Negan’s character.

In a few words Ricks plan was BAD ASS & “NECESSARY!!”…..Not now but RIGHT NOW yes today they live back in a primal world that it is survival of the fittest survival is “Necessary by any means necessary”

  3. sha25 March 6, 2016 at 7:19 pm - Reply

Could you notice Glenn having a deep look to the pictures on the wall? Is this a clue? Is glenn going to suffer the lucille treatment? Maybe they did it in that way so as we could compare the series with glenn’s comic death. I don’t know, we will have to wait… I heard a lot of comments saying daryl is going to die by Negan, hope it is a lie! Amazing episode!

  4. Glenn24Rhee March 6, 2016 at 7:25 pm - Reply

F my life. Did anyone else just feel weak or sick when Glenn killed those guys? Damn that was kind of sad. He just lost a part of himself. I’m starting to get a weird feeling that what happened to Holly in the comics is going to happen to Maggie or Carol. If you remember, Holly gets kidnapped by the Saviors and kept hostage, until she is given back with a sack over her head, but she is a walker and our group doesn’t know. Then she bites Denise, which kills her later. I hope throughout this All Out War era, that they aren’t kept prisoner, because then I’ll be left anxious wondering.

I thought there at the end people were going to look over that white wall by the cars like at Terminus. And then they would see Negan walk in with Lucille, put them in a line, and then end the episode.

Question Time: Who do you think the Savior Women (kidnappers) are? (If they are from the comics)

  5. RickGrimes420 March 6, 2016 at 7:29 pm - Reply

This was such a great episode. I loved that Carol spends her free time making cookies and takes the time to deliver one to Sam’s grave. Even though the kid want made for this world, I liked the character, Particularly his relationship with Carol.

Father Gabriel just became one of the most bad ass characters on the show. Watching him quite scripture before wasting that Savior was so bad ass. Amen.

Watching Abraham leave Rosita was pretty rough even though we knew it was only a matter of time.

The raid was extremely intense. I was nervous the entire time and was expecting Abraham to get a bolt in the eye.

As the series shifts genres and leaps into All Out War territory, things are going to become grim. Do you guys think All out War will be a full season, or just a half season?

A very unexpected ending to the episode as Maggie and Carol are taken hostage. Are they being led to Negan’s actual headquarters? (Was there a name for it? Can’t remember)

Was Morgan building a jail cell? If so, that is a very interesting take on the character. I feel as if Rick will dedicate the jailing of Negan to Morgan. Which is kind of beautiful, it makes a little more sense than having a random epiphany in the middle of a damn war.

I can’t wait to see Dwight again, hopefully he paid the price for running with an iron to his fuckin face.

Who gets bitten by the vampire bat Lucille? My bets are on Daryl. Despite all the rumors, it truly is the only character that you can kill and have the same emotional resonance as issue100.

    • UltimateZombie March 6, 2016 at 9:43 pm - Reply

The Sanctuary i think is Saviors base, every time Abraham is alone with someone else I think he is getting a bolt to the eye. I go Darryl the get smash, I like him and Glenn just feels to obvious now, this season is been about Glenn almost dying. But only Darryl or Glenn can make a emotional death from vampire bat Lucille.
And I dont know why but I fear for Tara getting the bolt and not Abraham, I know the probably wont change that moment but is something I though through the episode after the I love you to Dennise

      • Glenn24Rhee March 7, 2016 at 5:14 pm - Reply

I think Ab might still get the bolt, but it would be less dramatic. Tara may get it, but that means the same for everyone, who knows Morgan may even get it. I personally think Tara will get the Holly treatment rather than Francine (Holly’s replacement).

    • Hobbs March 7, 2016 at 10:50 am - Reply

I Would think that all out war will be an entire season at least, with even a cliffhanger in the season finale into the next season. They should slow down, at this rate, one day they might catch up. I Wonder what that would be like, the show dictating the narrative over the comic for a change – gimple with the hostile takeover of corporate TWD!

I’m bumbed that glenn is only gonna get a few more episodes before his untimely end. The fuse has just been lite.

I just searched and found out that Greg Nicotero is directing the finale.. that is crazy. Usually when he directs, heading smashing gore happens… head smashing.

Anyone else find it interesting that the dude escaping at the end was riding Daryl’s motorcycle? That must mean the man and woman who robbed him earlier this season are with the Saviors.

  10. bglaze1984 March 6, 2016 at 8:25 pm - Reply

I’m thinking Morgan was building Negans jail cell and Morgan will be the one to get Lucilled. Which will cause Rick to decide to keep Negan alive.

  11. Tonnie2NA March 6, 2016 at 8:26 pm - Reply

CAROL is my vote for who gets the bat. But let’s get a poll going cuz I’d be curious to see the consensus.

  17. seanmathews1 March 7, 2016 at 4:53 am - Reply

In my original post I was trying to keep away from mentioning Lucille and Glenn for those who watch the show but don’t read the comics. Now that that ship has sailed…..

I think we will see Negan the last episode. I agree it’s Glenn or Daryl. We will probably see Negan in the last 15 minutes, he’ll line them up and the season will end with someone’s brains bashed in. That leaves us in shock all summer long.

I think the entirety of next season, fall and spring, will be all out war.

It’s interesting because the show is rapidly catching up to the comics. Do we flash forward to the whisperers? Or does the show end? Interesting period of time.

  18. dank790 March 7, 2016 at 5:22 am - Reply

Sean you are totally right. I figure they have 2, maybe 3 seasons till they catch the comics. I hope they don’t make a bunch of wolf type groups to steal time and make the series last longer. Would seem like a waste of time, and will take the punch out of the next villian alpha. The wolves seems like a more watered down whisperer group. Just keep the show from getting too far away from the source material and you will stay on the ratings number 1 spot.

    • RickGrimes420 March 7, 2016 at 6:32 am - Reply

I wonder if when the time comes, they’ll go the game if thrones route? (Adapting kirkmans ideas for the end)

I truly hope not. I honestly can’t wait to see Rick face to face with Negan . It’s gonna be a monumental event.

    • RickGrimes420 March 7, 2016 at 6:35 am - Reply

I think you can commit an entire half season to the mystery of the whisperers. I remember reading that issue and seriously thinking that zombies had evolved to the point in which they can communicate with each other. Then revealing in the final episodes that their in fact people passing as walkers

  19. BarbaLucy March 7, 2016 at 7:26 am - Reply

I think based on Carol’s behavior during this episode; not wanting to give up her new identity to become her old bad ass self, that she is not long for the world. I can see her stepping in for Maggie or even Glenn. Having Glenn view the Lucille Gallery was a nice little touch, as was Jesus using the phrase “off the bat” last week when telling the crew that Negan killed one of the Hilltop-ites.
The two I think might be up for the next character death’s are Abraham (EVERY episide this season I was sure he was going to get that arrow) or Sasha.
Morgan building a cell for Negan, awesome though there RickGrimes! I wouldn’t have caught that but it sure fits.
Rosita… I hope she will be ok. I really felt for her. But it is probably Eugene’s dream come true.
I would think that if Glenn is destined for the Lucille treatment, we wont actually see him get it until next season. I can see this season ending with them in the eenie meanie minie moe selection process.
Next question, will be see the Kingdom any time soon?

I don’t want Glenn to die. REALLY, I don’t… But I think he has to. Maggie has to lose him to propel her to the tough leader and fighter she is destined to be. And really… We don’t get to be a happy nuclear family when the world ends.

Loved this week’s episode! Might be in my top 5 favorites so far, I’ll definitely be re-watching it a few times this week. Couple side notes that I haven’t seen anyone else comment on yet: 1. Eugene, we need more Eugene!!! I love his little one liners and the lightness he brings to the show. And that Virginia is for Lovers shirt he was wearing when he ran into Rosita was hilarious. 2. Was that a cannabis grow room inside the saviors compound? Where is the power coming from to do that? Are DEA still raiding outdoor growers in the zombie apocalypse? I guess no one wants to risk getting zombifying weed… 3. I think they’re definitely teasing the Glenn/Lucille thing too much, but are they doing that because they want us to think it’s going to be him and pull the switch on us? Or might they be trying to set up a still shocking Glenn death by not remixing it? I don’t know what to think anymore, I’ve got no solid predictions on that one!

  23. carlyyougoonie March 7, 2016 at 10:34 am - Reply

It kills me to think that Carol’s history as a victim of abuse is motivating her to some degree to keep her fight with Morgan a secret. Not buying her line of reasoning to Rosita at all.

And was it the moment when she shot the wolf and then immediately realized that he was actually helping Denise that pushed her over the edge to change?

This character has so much intense internal turmoil going on and I hope we get to see her come to a resolution and maybe get to enjoy some moments of happiness before we have to let her go.

Not ready! Carol has more cookies to bake and I’m hoping she gets to roll around with Tobin a bit before her time comes.
    Sorry Daryl. Momma’s got needs.

Does anyone else think that maybe they return Carol with a knapsack over her head? (Walker Carol)

      • Glenn24Rhee March 7, 2016 at 5:03 pm - Reply

I left a comment about that too. It would be a pretty crazy thing to happen. I think Carol is going to be shot thou. That whole “mom” thing kind of set up Carol’s reaction to Maggie being there, which would make sense that later with the kidnappers, she does everything she can to get Maggie out and she dies in the process. I think Tara will survive until the knapsack situation and being the one who is in it (Or maybe Francine, since she is a replacement for Holly).

This blows, I love carols character so much. The most emotional moment for me, hands down, would have to be when the group finally gets reunited after the events of Terminus. I still get emotional watching that scene.

          • Glenn24Rhee March 8, 2016 at 4:11 pm

I love her too. She is one of the best characters on the show, but there are just to many strong people on Rick’s side right now. He has Glenn, Carol, Daryl, Abraham, Morgan, and so many others. When Negan shows up, Rick loses pretty much everyone.

    • shannonmctx March 7, 2016 at 3:49 pm - Reply

I think Carol’s motivation in not telling everyone about Morgan is that she also made a mistake in the past (killing Karen & David). Although only a couple knew what she did, they’ve all moved on and left it in the past.

  24. RickGrimes420 March 7, 2016 at 11:13 am - Reply

It seems as though maybe they only have Carol hostage. Hopefully they traded pregnant Maggie for the Savior.

Screaming at the TV the whole episode! So tense.

Gabriel is the all new badass!! Woohoo! Loved his bit.

I anticipate the loss of many old Survivors. With Jesus on deck an Gabriel stepping up I feel the Survivors are getting a freshening up. That said, I don’t know nothing. And, I love that.

These are the episodes I live for. Great episode.
