The Negan/Glenn Scene May Go Down Differently On TV

Negan’s arrival in the show is inevitable. If the comic was any guide (and it usually is) this could spell disaster for Glenn, who….*SPOILER ALERT*…..gets beaten to death by Negan in the comics. In fact, AMC’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan casting announcement has (to most fans) served as a kiss of death to Steven Yeun’s role on the show.

BUT…sometimes the show differs greatly from the comics (See: Carol, Andrea, Daryl, Terminus, etc). Entertainment Weekly’s Dalton Ross recently sat down with Steven Yeun to discuss the buzz surrounding Glenn’s fate and how he views the upcoming narrative.

Despite his character’s fate in the comics, Glenn actor Steven Yeun doesn’t seem to dread his arrival in the show. “For me, his arrival is awesome,” says Yeun. “We’ve been waiting for this person for a long time, and in the comic books, he in a way brings a level of stakes that are kind of unmatched. And so, for me, for Negan to come into the show is, to say nothing less, f—ing awesome.”

The irony of this optimism isn’t lost on Yeun. “I know people are going to always go, ‘Negan kills Glenn in the comics,’ but rest assured that we don’t necessarily do what’s in the comics,” says Yeun. “There’s a clear divide in the way we tell a story on television, and the way that story is told in the comics, because it has to be. And everybody will have to see what happens, but we definitely tell our story in the way that television should be told.”

So will the show actually differ from that iconic moment in the comics? “That’s the beauty of the adaptation,” comments Yeun. “There is something to be said about something being predictable. I’m sure there are iconic moments, but at the same time, we want to keep this show as fresh and alive as possible, and we’re going to tell that story that exists for the world we’ve created. And it is inspired by the world Robert Kirkman has created, but it’s also its own entity, to some degree. So, yeah. I mean, we’ll see what happens.”

Does this not strike you as a little too spoiler-y for the few TV watchers who’ve stayed in the dark?

What a load of bullshit. We all know they won’t kill Daryl because of financial reasons, and that leaves Glenn and Morgan but I am 100% certain Morgan is going to live.

I think with the high ratings TWD has it won’t matter who they kill off at this point. I think the ones to die this season could be Daryl, Sasha and Abraham. My wild guess would be Glenn and Rick.

I’ve never read the comics. So I am one of those “few TWD fans” who have stayed in the dark. I do hear a bit about the comics sometimes on The Talking Dead like they were speculating as to whether Carl would or would not lose an eye (they said it was in the comics) which he DID end up doing. But there is NO WAY they would kill Glenn off. Esp now that he & Maggie are expecting a baby. They (ALMOST) killed him off at the beginning of this season for a few weeks (maybe to see how the audience would react). But US the fans went freaking CRAZY on this so inevitably he survived the attack caused by Nicholas by hiding under a dumpster (Thank God!). I read that ALOT of fans complained during those 3 wks so maybe that is why he survived. So in my opinion I highly doubt that Glenn will die (at Negan’s hands or anyone else’s). I sure hope that Maggie makes it to, thru childbirth & also their baby. I think that Glenn & Maggie are our ONE “sure thing” couple from almost the start of the series. If we lost them we would lose ALL HOPE in anyone having a “Future” in the apocolipse am I right? Rick, Daryll, Carl, Carol & Michonne are almost surely going to stay because without THEM – the show wouldn’t be the show. This is just one die-hard woman fan’s opinion. And hope. 🙂

Those episodes are filmed in advance before they’re aired. No, fan complaining wasn’t the reason Glenn survived. They planned on him living.

Don’t be so sure anyone is safe. Deaths don’t mean much if the main characters can never be touched.

I am a huge fan of all TWD. I read the comics and novels, as well as stuff online and TV. I watch the TV show, Talking Dead, and watch videos/interviews too. Having said that… I am by no means an expert because Kirkman, Gimple, Nicotero, and all the other wonderful contributors constantly surprise me…on screen and in print. The ONLY person I’ve ever heard Kirkman say he doesn’t want to kill is Carol and even that could change. So basically, I think anyone could die. Do I think Glenn will die like the comics…idk. I really do believe they tested the perverbial waters of the audience reaction with Nicolas and the dumpster scene, but also knew he was alive the entire time, so if they do kill him off, I don’t think it will be in this same season, though it may still be at the hands of Negan and Lucille. All I can say is, after six seasons, I’m still screaming and crying at my TV so they’re definitely doing something right!! I love all the main characters and the originality of deviating from the comics while still holding true to the overall story, but just like the comics, part of the excitement of the show is the fact that NO ONE is safe… right??

It is going to Carol. She is going to cross path with Negan somehow. Her character is starting to lose it. They cannot make her any badder than she already is. Daryl is not going anywhere. whatever show that he is supposed to be front running will probably be an out season show. Everyone is expecting Glenn to get it, but the twist for him in the show might be, how does him and maggie continue together after the baby is born (IMO). Morgan maybe now that Rick and Michonne hooked up. No chance for Morgan now. there might even be a big killing in the finale, multiple ppl. there is a huge cast of regulars. They cannot kill out major characters without replacing them with a bigger character. Jesus character in the show is still developing.

I heard it will be a cliffhanger as to who Negan will kill. He will beat someone with Lucille but we won’t know who it is until season 7. If that’s true, TWD is going to lose a lot of fans! That’s not even close to being ok! We are tired of the fake outs(Glen’s dumpster death) and sucky cliffhangers ( season 6 episode 8). I love TWD but this is NOT the TWD I fell in love with. Sorry to say
