Norman Reedus’s Gift to Fans

For months, Norman Reedus (Daryl Dixon) has been assembling art from fans–photography, illustration, collage, you name it! The goal? He’s curating and selecting art for a new book, published entirely based on selection of art submitted by fans of The Walking Dead.

Norman isn’t new to the art scene, having previously published an art book of his own photography, The Sun’s Coming Up… Like a Big Bald Head.

Based on a recent tweet, it sounds like the book is nearing completion. Norman tweeted, “Thank u everyone that sent in artwork really great stuff. Book is gonna be great. You guys are the best thank you!!”

Less than a week after Norman announced his plans to publish the book, he had already received thousands of submissions. Though the submissions closed on May 13, that just means we’re one step closer to a finished book! Throughout the process he’s been sharing some of the art, and the it looks like it’s going to be pretty cool.

No word yet on a release, but we’ll keep you posted.

Did you submit a piece of art for the book? If so, share it below so that we might praise you! And let us know what you think of Norman’s idea! Is it just a cool way to interact with fans, or do you think he’s a media pioneer? (Or D: None of the Above)

I think it is wonderdul. Another way of him showing his love to his fans. His fanbase is so supportive and in return he does what he can to return that. He has ao many, many talentes and creative fans. My son sent a picture in in. So we will wait and see .

I think that Norman is doing an awesome thing. I love that he appreciates the creativity of his fans and wants to give back. It inspired me to try my hand at drawing the Walking Dead characters for the first time 🙂

I entered the drawing not the picture of my son holding his drawing. I did send him the picture to show that my son drew the picture for him. He was very proud of his drawing.

There’s a lot of stuff that has to happen before the book is published. Every piece of work chosen requires a release from the author/artist giving permission to print the work. Any submissions with any names, images or connections to “The Walking Dead”, AMC, or anything to do with the show will require releases from the show in order to be used. It can take up to two years to get a book published.

I just heard about the book so I didn’t submit. I would have if I’d known… Anyhow, this is my drawing of the autopsy walker.
