Episode 413: Alone-Recap and Discussion

After a full episode of Daryl and Beth last week, we get to visit some other characters this week. Don’t worry Daryl fans, he’s still here.

We open with Bob in his time right before he came to the prison, on his own with a thousand-yard stare and a machete. We see him aimlessly wondering. Taking shelter in a drainage pipe or mine shaft and chugging cough syrup. It’s apparent that he’s oblivious to the dead around him and just going through the motions. He makes it to a road and camps out. The next day Bob meets Glenn and Daryl for the first time. Daryl gives Bob the three questions and they invite him back to the prison.

After the credits we’re back to present day as Bob, Sasha, and Maggie fight off a horde of walkers in the middle of a fog bank. Bob takes an errant gun shot to the shoulder from Sasha but he’s ok. We learn that they’re almost out of ammo.

When they push on they come across the train tracks and the sign for Terminus. They decide that Terminus is their best bet to find Glenn and the others, despite Sasha’s misgivings. When they make camp, Sasha makes her argument for stopping and making permanent camp. She doesn’t believe that Glenn or Tyreese are alive.

When Sasha and Bob wake up the next day, Maggie has left a note in the dirt: DONT RISK YOUR LIVES 4 ME. GOOD LUCK. Bob’s not having it. He packs up and heads off after her.

While they track her, Maggie kills a walker and uses it’s guts to write a note to Glenn to head to Terminus, which Sasha and Bob find in pretty short order.

As Bob and Sasha try to sleep that night Bob asks Sasha why she thinks Tyreese is dead but he answers his own question when he asks if she’s just afraid to find out the truth.

The next day Bob and Sasha find another bloody message from Maggie and a town not far from that. Sasha still wants to stop but Bob won’t leave Maggie on her own. When it’s suggested they split up Bob kisses Sasha and minus a large reaction says, “Well ok then” and heads off on his own after Maggie. Sasha heads into town to fortify and settle in and almost breaks down crying. When she looks out the window she sees Maggie on the ground next to a truck. As she looks closer she knocks the window loose and when it crashes to the ground it draws all the walkers nearby. She runs down to help Maggie. The two if them manage to fight off the walkers.

Maggie tells Sasha that she heard what she said about Glenn being dead but she realized that she can’t find Glenn on her own so she waited for Sasha and Bob. She convinces Sasha that they can’t give up hope.

The two of them catch up to Bob and together they follow the tracks.

The OTHER half of the episode follows Daryl and Beth, so while all of the above’s going down…

Daryl is teaching Beth to track and shoot a crossbow. They track a walker to a clearing. As Beth closes for the kill she steps on a small foothold trap. Daryl runs in to take care of the walker. Beth limps along until they reach a cemetery and when she can’t walk anymore Daryl gives her a piggyback ride. They stop at a grave and Daryl places some wildflowers on it and Beth takes Daryl’s hand while they quietly stare at the grave of a beloved father.

The two of them arrive at the funeral home. Beth remarks on how clean it is, which Daryl thinks might mean someone is still around. They find a couple of dressed cadavers and head downstairs to wrap Beth’s ankle. Beth says how it’s beautiful that someone cared enough to dress and make up the walkers.

When they raid the cupboards they notice that there’s no dust on the jars and cans. Daryl says they’ll just take some and leave the rest for whoever’s stockpiling it. They set their tripwire alarm and bed down for the night, Daryl taking the coffin. Beth sings Waxahatchee’s “Be Good” which Daryl doesn’t seem to mind for once.

The next day Daryl and Beth are sitting down to breakfast when the tripwire alarm gets triggered. It’s just a dog. That night Beth starts writing a Thank You note to whomever’s been staying there when Daryl suggests maybe they’ll just stay for a while. Before Beth can find out why Daryl has started to change his mind about people the tripwire alarm gets tripped again, along with a dog yelp. Daryl goes to get the dog but finds walkers instead. He tells Beth to run while he has a long contracted battle with the walkers. By the time he gets outside, he sees Beth’s bag spilled on the ground and a car speeding into the night. He runs after the car into the next morning where he collapses in the road, exhausted.

As he sits there the strangers that Rick just had a run in with shows up. They surround him and Daryl swings at the leader. He stops his men from attacking Daryl and introduces himself: Joe. Daryl drops his crossbow and returns the introduction. Uh oh, Daryl.

The final shot of the episode is Glenn finding the map to Terminus.

So what did you guys think?
Do we need a couple name for Bob Stookey and Sasha? Bobsha? Stoosha?
Would you be so chill if Sasha shot you?
Who are Joe and his boys? I don’t think they’re good news…
Who the F snatched up Beth?!

At first I thought Beth got kidnapped by the marauders but that theory got ruled out by Daryl hanging out with them, maybe she got taken by the owner of the house her and Daryl were shacking up in .

I like Bob and Sasha but she is too superior to him. I can’t wait for glaggie to be back. That was such a cliffhanger of an ending.
Daryl should not be with joe. He is the one who strangled someone over a bed at the house Rick, Carl, and michonne were at. He should just go off by himself to find Beth because he could take care of himself and Beth is part of his original group. I just hope they don’t get together, that is so gross

My ninja bob I’m proud of him getting with Sasha but I think that group is the hunter and Daryl following to see if they got beth

Good episode! Didn’t see that coming for Beth. So many twists and turns.

There’s absolutely no way we’ll see what Terminus is until the finale even if we can assume Rick or any group really has already reached there because it leaves a lingering mystery to be resolved and satisfy before the season’s cliffhanger. It’s probably a pretty sane place though in my opinion. We’ve already seen two factional groups of irrational post-apocalyptic crazies. I think it would be pretty fascinating to see Daryl, who’s always been a really rough cut jewel, trying to civilize a group of barbarians to re-enter them into a group of friendlies. The struggles and challenges they’d face after losing so much of their humanity would be tight.

If Sasha shot me I wouldn’t be chill about it. I’m bleeding in a world with no hospitals and no supplies far from help.

Hoe and his band of merry idiots are bad news and I hope Daryl just kills them all and takes their arrows and leaves them for dead to find Beth. Whoever kidnapped Beth is probably whoever owned the stash of yummlies they were dining on. They probably went back for their dog and food, which attracted and led the herd of walkers back to the house in mass.

I’m kinda surprised absolutely none of these groups have scavenged at least an abandoned bicycle. If I was in one of those micro-families I’d be the one saying let’s just carry hammocks instead of tents and sleep in the trees. :v

I believe Bob and Sasha (Bobsha was the best one) are going to be a great story to follow. Im glad Maggie learned how to use a street sign as a zombie decapitator. Also, the disappearance of beth is going to make a full circle back to Daryl. Im sure that gang has her and hes going to get her back and sneek away. But does anyone else belive that Terminus isnt going to be such a sanctuary as it says. Im with Sasha, could be a new Woodbury.

    • Tyler Scott Powell March 9, 2014 at 7:28 pm - Reply

I really hope Daryll ends up taking a few of those guys out if they do have Beth. I have a horrible feeling that the sanctuary will end up being a horror story not even comperable to Woodbury.

    • Staci Rahnae Ozgowicz March 9, 2014 at 7:40 pm - Reply

I don’t think Woodbury holds a candle to what this “sanctuary” is really going to be. I think those guys at the end are going to end up leading Daryll back to there as a new recruit pretty much. Those men are obviously not good guys seeing as they said, “Why get yourself killed when you can hurt others?” or something along those lines. Hopefully the group can meet up and find Beth and bail out! Fast!

True wasn’t that joe guy the same guy bouncing a ball in the house with Rick? Those boots and voice sounded familiar before i saw his face. But im sure that was him

So its official, jeff kober is the same guy that was in the house with Rick. Do you think he will goto terminus? Do you think they have beth? Will rick and daryll lock eyes on oopposite sides of a standoff? I’ll call them Hunters but im sure they arnt cannibals because they are scavenging for canned foods and would have eaten daryll and they guy that was strangled in the house next to Rick

I have to say before this episode I definitely did not care at all about Bob, but I’m starting to like him more. I’m really happy Glen is also starting to head towards Terminus. And I have to say I would add Daryl getting away from all those walkers as one of the coolest Daryl moments out of the whole show. He’s basically invincible getting out of that. I knew the marauders were gonna show up again and that’s who I initially though took Beth. I hope Daryl shows those marauders who’s boss in a future episode though. Overall I really liked this episode. Beth better live though.

That house was a setup! Nice safe boarded up place With food etc. Just waiting for someone to come along. Like a human trap! Love it! Get people comfortable and relaxed then here come the walkers. .The walkers take out some and the hunters get the leftovers! Love the Build up.. end of season will be mind blowing.

I enjoyed this episode…I think Daryl has run into a group that may revert him back to his old ways…but, Daryl will see that he doesn’t want to be “that person” again. I also think that Negan will be at Terminus.

  28. Dylan Willey March 9, 2014 at 7:19 pm - Reply

I really enjoyed this episode as it left you wondering what is going to happen next. Whose house were Daryl and Beth in? The bandits that Rick and Daryl encountered or maybe a certain group of Hunters that may have snatched Beth? I also liked Sasha a lot in this episode as she finally admitted she was afraid. One thing is for sure…people have a lot of explaining to do with Tyreese, lol. Glenn finding the Terminus sign was a perfect ending to this episode.

Only bad part…”ONLY 3 EPISODES LEFT”

some people that get on reddit can be jerks though! so it can be annoying when i post my ideas, and people are like “Ur Grammar SUX!” or “I just got cancer from reading that!” And I’m just laughing my head off when they use text talk to say i need to work on grammar or spelling!

And I just respond to them “PLZ TONE DWN THE TXT TLK.” they must really see me as an ass. i take that as a complement. i owned a donkey for three years. and those ass’s are cute!

Jerks all over…no way to avoid them. But they feed on other people’s reaction to them being jerks. So the best way to deal with them is to completely ignore them. That gets ’em where it hurts!

          • thewalkingdeadfanatic2 March 10, 2014 at 1:20 pm

finding nice girls is harder than guys- at least, up close and personal- girls can be so catty sometimes! but the only problem is, i KNOW where to get the guys where it hurts- i studied human anatomy rather early (like, third grade!) so i am familiar with male pain. but girls- i dont think it hurts in the same place….

im so weird. Please pardon my awkwardness!!

There is so much more that needs to happen before we can even see anything with negan. The group needs to get reestablished and set up in the safe zone before negan comes in. I’m just ready for call to lose an eye.

No answers, only questions, haha. Think the writers know that all the comic readers are expecting the hunters soon? With the exception of Abraham’s group, every encounter has that air of “is it them?”.

My wife deleted the episode from our DVR before I could check. Did anyone notice if the guy that was choked out and saw Rick under the bed still with Joe’s group? I figure that he got bit by the bathroom walker that Rick left as a trap, but it would be interesting to know if Rick could be identified if they run into that group again.

Whoever took Beth pretty much has bad intentions, or you would figure that she would have had them stop for Daryl. There’s no way that Daryl slips back to his old self with Joe’s group. He was in a no win situation, but he didn’t run a half marathon trying to track a car to give up on Beth that easily.

  46. Greg March 9, 2014 at 7:47 pm - Reply

Me and my family was watching this episode together. SO far, It’s a good episode.

when Beth and Daryle went to the funeral home. I was like, “YES! YES! Gabriel got to live there!”

When Daryle was playing the Knock Knock who is there game? Knock Knock? Daryle said, Who’s there? Bark Bark!. Bark who?. Dog said, “Bark! Where is my Bone Fool.”Another one again, KNOCK KNOCK! Darly said, Who’s there? Walkers said, Urh! Urh who! Walker said, Urg, Me Hungry for some Darly! Darly said, “Go fuck yourself and have a nice day!.”

Gabriel snatched up Beth in that episode. It’s got to be Gabriel because NOBODY IS NOT DRIVING A CAR WITH CROSS SYMBOL STICKER BEHIND THE CAR. What the heck, U made Gabriel look like dick in that episode. Why? Gabriel is like my favorite character in the comic. The reason why I like Gabriel because he respect the dead and give people Funeral. That’s his job. when Gabriel snatched up Beth. That was mess up.

What to know, Those people who took Daryle. Is that the Marauders? IF, so. Omg that’s cool.

To me, Beth and Darly reminded of Dwight and Sherry in the Comic. IDK why but it’s does.

That terminus is not a safe zone. “Sanctuary. Those who arrive survive” Somethig doesn’t sound right?. Well, the best part of that episode was at the ending. When Glenn find out that Maggie is still alive. That was the best part because Glenn can prove Abraham, He’s wrong about Glenn Wife.

    Great episode man!

Man oh man where to start I really liked this episode. Man Bob is really starting to grow on me. NOW I guess he is going to die since he is becoming likeable. Thats what Mr. Kirkman will do to you. Daryl has come so far in the walking dead he has gone from thug with Merle when they was going to take out the camp.He has gone to hero from helping Rick and all the others. Beth has really broken down alot of the walls that he has been hiding behind and I am sure Carol helped too but it looks like Beth has really gotton to him. And now now it looks like he is going to have to go along with this bad group. He is going to have to revert back to what he don’t want to be. But Daryl is going to do what his brother Merle taught him to do, he is going to survive but it is going to be with the wrong group. He is going to go along with them in hopes to find Beth but I’m afraid it is going to take him down the wrong path. This I am so afraid to say is going to be Daryls downfall. When put in a situation like he is in you have to survive.Yeah Daryl is bad ass but he would not have made it against all those guys. So in order to survive you gotta do what you gotta do.

  48. Jennifer Small March 9, 2014 at 7:47 pm - Reply

Where is Beth! Was it those men that met up with Daryl who took her? And is Daryl going to join those men or just play them to not be killed? I really have faith in Daryl to stay true to his new found goodness. And Terminus I believe is definitely a trap by those men…ahhh too many questions so little episodes left!!

That episode was insane on so many levels. This show has never made me more anxious. If the Hunters really have just been introduced and Daryl is their newest member, then this spells disaster for the group. The idea of being alone is so haunting.

Even if we get an opportunity to be surrounded by people, most of us would choose not to. We saw each characters put through tests and some of them almost decided to give up completely. However, through the strength of others (Good or bad) are we able to pick ourselves up and keep fighting for hope.

At what moment do you give up and think that all hope is lost?

What do you do when all your choices have been stripped from you?

  65. Stephanie Houk March 9, 2014 at 8:54 pm - Reply

Am I the only one that had a sick and twisted hope that we were going to see the Hunters when Beth stepped into the trap? I like character development and all, but I’m glad this episode picked up the pace a little. I’m thinking the dog belonged to whoever was the owner of the car/person who kidnapped Beth and the herd that attacked the funeral home was also caused by said mystery person/people. I’m curious to know if it was someone who was tracking them, or if they had just watched them go into the building.

Sanctuary.. maybe Gabriel? Or its the hunters leading people on. Leading them into a trap. Or is it Alexandrea?

Good episode! Couple things caught my attention: Number One, shortest piggy back ever!!! If I was Beth I wouldn’t have hopped off! #2 Was Bob eating pink frosting in the intro? #3 Daryl’s new nickname will be DOCTOR DARYL after using those scalpels to kill those walkers like a pro! #4 SPOILER if you haven’t read the comics!.. I think Beth is going to be eaten by the Hunters. After Daryl & Beth forming a close relationship, I think Daryl finding Beth’s dead body would finally drive him to the dark side and be part of The Marauders ( Joe’s Crew). Can’t wait for next week’ episode!! #terminus

I agree with you all the way. Even with the last part. Though, I don’t think that Daryl should be put through that, I mean he has lost his brother, who basically abused him and dragged him into things that really scarred him. Norman is such an excellent actor, they all are.

It was Gabriel, Who snatched up beth. “SPOILER if you haven’t read the Comic!…” Dale was bitten in the shoulder and nobody didn’t saw dale got bitten. Same thing could happen to Bob. Bob said, he didn’t got scratch by a walker but I think, he’s lying. To me, I think bob is trying to show his emotion to Sasha before he turn into a walker. Bob reminded me of dale relationship with Andrea. The scene with the fog reminded me of issue 61.

P.S. I got to say this off my head. I’ve been Checking out your comment and Likes. I’ve been thinking, You been making fake accounts and you been liking your own comment Over and Over. IT’S PATHETIC!!! Like every time, there is a status with a give away comic with a autograph. I Alway see the same exact people with the top comment. U, Brandon, Rebbecca. When I look at all of the comments and likes. It’s a pattern. I see the same exact people liking your guys status. Funny! most of the people who is liking you’re guys status. Doesn’t talk on this web page. I think, Some of the users are just one person. TBH, I think, it’s one person been making a lot of account and liking your own status. Whatever, It fucking PATHETIC!!! I’m seeing a pattern in this. If, u look at their status guys, you know what i’m saying. You guys need to stop it . Give someone a chance to win the Autograph. I don’t care, if u unlike my status or flagging it. I’m just saying my own opinion. PLUS, I HAVE PROOF AND EVIDENCES. HOW DARE U CALL YOURSELF A WALKING DEAD FAN! The episode was decently paced, maybe a bit more excitement at the beginning and fans wouldn’t complain so much. I loved the last 20 minutes, it’s making me think of whole new scenarios as to how the season is going to play out.
First is the sanctuary- My guess is the Hunters are running the show there, in the second last episode I think we’l see the group get together at the sanctuary where it will end with the Hunters about to pull off a plan. However I’m still unsure about those people Daryl met up with, my guess is maurders where they will try and do something to rick, carl and michonne. And Daryl will somehow protect them.
But in all honesty The Walking Dead has completely spun me around and I have no idea where it is headed. (Thats a good thing!!!)

When Daryl was teaching Beth how to track, Beth believes she sees walker tracks while Daryl thinks it could’ve been “a drunk”. I think that foreshadows with Bob. Bob seems like a really wise, friendly guy after watching this episode but I think there’s more to him. There is a lot of things we do not know about Mr.Bob. Overall I think this Terminus place is a trap. I think they call it a”Sanctuary” and placing maps all over the woods so people can go there, is so they can trap weary unsuspecting travelers. I think Terminus is the home of the HUNTERS…Go to Terminus if you want to be what’s for dinner

I have to say, that was one of the most intense episodes, besides the episode where Hershel died, that ripped my heart out. Anyways, this episode was a piece of amazing work. The writers and producers really pushed themselves this time around. You know a show is good when you can feel the emotion of the characters. Last episode when Daryl began to cry, a tear fell out of my eye, without my control. It was bizarre.

Anyways, I think Daryl is going to try and gain the gang’s trust but then betray them because we all know he’d choose Rick, Carl, Michonne, CAROL, and the others over those turdburgerlers. They don’t seem chill to me. Does anyone else feel something funny about that gang that found Daryl?

After the focus of just Beth and Daryl, it was nice to see some of the other from the group, but really would like to get back to the spending some time with all the parties… such as Glen’s group and Rick, Carl and Michonne.

Maybe the people who snatched Beth are the same people who found Daryl? It’s kind of random that they popped out-of-nowhere and they might have some connection to those who raided the place Rick, Carl, and Michonne stayed at.

I believe those guys that found Daryl…were out and about looking for who may have killed their friend (the dude Rick killed)…

Overall it was a decent episode. I am really intrigued with the Beth/Daryl story arc but am not sure how they are going to wrap up the rest of the story prior to Terminus in just three short episodes. Seems like there is still a lot left to Beth and Daryl but I guess we will see. Also, it seems like TWD has become a little stagnant. What I mean by this is we haven’t really had a unexpected death or moment in a while. The last thing that really shocked me was Dale’s death in S02. S03 and S04 have been pretty accurate to the comics and therefor nothing has been too exciting. Plus it feels like there are characters were are protected and cannot die. Every time I see Daryl, Rick, Maggie, Glenn, Carl, etc. fight I sometimes bother not to even watch because I know they will escape unharmed as the writers are scared to test the waters with them. S01 and S02 were great. S03 and S04 seem to be dying down TWD hype imo. Comics though, are always great.

Poor Bob. He’s getting really likeable so that’s a greater chance that they’re going to off him.

Daryl and Beth were doing really well at the beginning. I knew something bad was bound to happen though. Nothing’s allowed to stay good for any members of the group for too long.

When there was a dog at the door I was thinking, “AWESOME! Daryl’s gonna get a badass dog sidekick!” But oh well I guess that dog is gone from the sound of him barking at the walkers.

I think Maggie went a little overboard with leaving Bob and Sasha. She also went a little overboard with having to cut the walkers open in order to smear blood on the signs. I think it would’ve been good enough to just carve into the side of the pillar like it looked like she was initially gonna do But who I am to judge it still worked and GLENN’S HEADING TO TERMINUS!

I think it’s pretty clear though that Terminus is the hunters. I don’t know what else it could be unless they are really differentiating from the comics.

The funeral home I could only see being Gabriel’s given there are really not many priests left in the zombie apocalypse and if they’re incorporating a priest I don’t think it’s be someone different from Gabriel.

I’m wondering who took Beth. I was thinking the marauders at first, but it doesn’t look like they were driving a car anywhere around them.

Daryl better kick their asses in a future episode and find Beth.

So I really liked this episode. I think it was better than last week. A lot less filler. I can’t wait to see Tyreese, Carol, and the kids next week.

Yeah. That part is awesome it’s one of my favorites from the comics. They better do it well in the show. The “Fear the Hunters” volume I would actually say is my favorite volume. That’s why I’m really worried they won’t do it justice in the show.

          • Jess March 10, 2014 at 4:35 pm

Is it perhaps possible Beth has been taken by the hunters? It seems the funeral home was an obvious trap.

          • John March 10, 2014 at 4:43 pm

I was thinking of that as one of the possibilities. Especially since in the comics the hunters like to take people off of small groups. But someone pointed out below me in the comments how their was a cross on the car so it maybe they are making Gabriel a complete lunatic and see. Hopefully we’ll find out in the next 3 episodes!

          • Itaruga March 10, 2014 at 8:06 pm

That’s a good theory, I’ve considered it myself. I do like how they are shaking things up in the show to throw us off, and at least at the moment, in a way that is not sucking lol. Daryl has been an awesome wild card, as well as those from the comics who should be dead by now. It was a great episode, much better than last weeks. I’m kind of having fun just letting things reveal itself rather than trying to guess too much. Ummm, A character named Gareth is supposed to come up who will be a combination of characters from the comic. Maybe that’s who took Beth, maybe it is the Hunters. I’m excited about seeing what Psycho girl will be up to next week. And even more excited about seeing Rick being a bad ass again 😀 Let the good times roll! Ohhhh, a question to ponder…..are the “Marauders” and Daryl also headed to Terminus? And if so, is there going to be a showdown at the O.K. Corral? hehe

          • William Frost March 10, 2014 at 11:47 pm

I think everyone is looking into that line too much, he was on the road alone, for what they made seem like quite a while, considering how easily he maneuvered the walkers and just the general lack of life in his eyes. If I was Bob, I wouldn’t care what kind of group I was joining either, another voice to talk to, a bit of humanity is all you need. Without it we’d become lost.

          • John March 11, 2014 at 12:02 pm

I was also thinking that he could’ve been with the hunters, but if he was I don’t think he ate any people or anything. Bob doesn’t seem like he would do that. And if he was with the hunters before I don’t think he would go around saying how he was with cannibals so maybe his story about him being the last survivor of two groups is completely made up.

    • Orchardmaid March 10, 2014 at 5:40 pm - Reply

Without a doubt the people who took Beth are the hunters. The house was a trap (stocked with food etc.), the dog was sent in to see who was there (without them exposing themselves) and the walkers were sent in to flush them out. Daryls group are the hunters and… ugh…they probably have already eaten poor Beth. Bob is more likely another candidate to get eaten.

I don’t think Terminus is the Hunter Haven though…why wander away to trap people when they will just come to you? Terminus is probably Hilltop colony from the comics.

      • John March 10, 2014 at 6:20 pm - Reply

I’m still thinking Terminus is the Hunters because I’m pretty sure they’re going to be heading to Washington DC at some point in the show and I don’t know what else they would do when they got there. The more and more I’m thinking about it though that house does seem like a trap.

        • Orchardmaid March 11, 2014 at 6:30 am - Reply

True, true. Terminus (meaning literally “the End”) would suit. BUT, it would be kind of hard to buy for the viewers. I mean, why go through elaborate traps when you already have strangers wondering in? The writers would also have to explain the little girls et al and where they went. My guess is that poor Daryl will come across Beth – abused (ugh) maybe eaten (double ugh) and flip, Bob and crew (who are close by) will happen across them and Bob will get eaten by the hillbillies/Hunters–lastly Glen, MURICA dude (Ford?), Rosita will save the day since they are also nearby. We still haven’t come to the Alexandria-Safe -Zone yet or hilltop colony, either one may be Terminus.

    • Daniel Boyer March 10, 2014 at 7:02 pm - Reply

agree, the cross in the back window has to be a clue to something…and Gabriel was introduced about this time in the comics…kidnapping though? sounds like a major character change for Gabriel…

      • Stuart Ormston March 11, 2014 at 8:51 am - Reply

He may not of been kidnapping, I mean if it was Gabriel he could of just been trying to get her safe, without knowing who else was in the house and as we know from the books Gabriel is not the kind of person to go rushing in to a house full of walkers?

        • John March 11, 2014 at 11:57 am - Reply

Yeah I was just thinking about how everyone including me immediately rushed to the conclusion that it’s a kidnapping, but the more I do think about it he probably was just trying to save her.

My house is becoming a bit irritated by the writers filling up sooooo much time with the Beth/Daryl story. Mean guy stuck with naive girl grows a heart…we get it already. Don’t get me wrong, I love character development but this honestly wasn’t very deep, just repetitious. We’d like to see more than 5 minutes of everyone else because these two were getting boring and tropey. (Plus, we liked Daryl better as a grumpy badass.) I actually posted this on the wrong episode board earlier. I will try to delete it. One this I do want to add is: enough with the flashbacks that have absolutely NO set up.

I’m a little taken back by so much positive feedback. Frankly so far this season I, and many of the people I watch with, are very disappointed thus far. This series used to be about not only the people, circumstances, feelings, scenarios, survival etc., but it provided so much of an action packed adrenaline rush it was almost impossible not to watch. During the break in season 3, I watched the season 1 pilot and was hooked and proceeded to get my entire family hooked. My entire family watched nothing but The Walking Dead, trying to get caught up before season 3 commenced in February that year. Who knew that by the time season 3 started up again, we had already seen the best of the best. If I wanted to watch a drama, I would watch a drama. The intrigue of this series IS:
    survival
    action
    adventure
    human interaction
Bottom line, what made The Walking Dead so great to at least 20 of the people I know who have become ‘followers’ has most definitely been lacking and almost non existent this season.
I’m sure there are many out there that disagree and that’s OK. We are all entitled to our opinion and what we want to watch and I understand I don’t have to watch it. No one is forcing me. I just don’t want to give up on it yet. YET. Absolutely LOVED ’24’ and it had a few shaky seasons as well, but I did watch every single episode until the end BECAUSE someone woke up and began writing again. (Thank You!) In any case, I am willing to give it until the end of this season and maybe an episode or two into next season but if the daytime soap opera writing doesn’t stop I will not be watching after that. And I know many who agree. Time will tell, but I sure would hate to give up our Sunday night Walking Dead parties … they are sorta fun.

What do you mean, “flashbacks that have absolutely no set up?”

      • KingMe March 10, 2014 at 11:17 am - Reply

The episode last night that began when Daryl and Glen found Bob. It was out of place. The time for that would have been when Bob was introduced to the show. Many I know thought he was from Woodberry. It seems like the loose ends are out there and four or five episodes later they throw in “Oh, by the way” … Flash backs are fine if they have merit and timing. They are irritating when they are thrown in out of the blue. Just my opinion. And we all know how those are 😉

        • Bastet March 10, 2014 at 11:25 am - Reply

I thought they did good by that. It seemed the perfect time to toss that flashback in there, as I felt the spotlight was on him and Sasha. If they can take a character and show changes taking place with that character & it changes how you feel about them, that’s pretty good. That flashback helped me see Bob in a different light, whereas before, I didn’t really feel anything for him. Now I look forward to seeing more of him and whatever happens with him will have a stronger impact.

I respect your opinion, & just for the record, this season is the least of my favorites, but I still love the show, it’s still well worth my Sunday nights, & I’m still looking forward to it!

          • KingMe March 10, 2014 at 12:25 pm

I think the spotlight being on him in this episode did that on it’s own. It would have been fine for the show to have used it during one of the conversations with Sasha, for example, when he was talking about being alone, just for an example. I believe the ‘timing’ and placement could be better. But hey, the writers are making a ton of money and all I have is my opinion — 🙂

    • Gregarious Raptopoulos March 11, 2014 at 11:15 am - Reply

The flashbacks are always great; they fill in missing gaps. Bob’s flashback was so awesome. It made me like his character so much more. It was extremely effective. Leaving that bit of his story out until now added an extra dimension of mystery to his character.

I think Beth’s capture is by
the owner of the mortuary, because someone was living there and might have been
in the house with them. I saw a mirror
on the wall, which makes me wonder if mortuaries might have two way mirrors so
they can keep an eye on mourners without disturbing them. So he devised a Walker bomb at the door to
flush them out and then took Beth, but to where? The person living there was fastidious and
was currently working on cleaning up a few Walkers. The black car that took Beth looked really
clean, especially clean for such an old car, which would be the car of a
fastidious person. The problem I have is
why would anyone have two homes?

I think Beth is going to be held by a guy that has
gone mad and formed his own reality. Daryl
can’t pursue Beth while with Joe and those creeps, because they would be the
absolute wrong people to see a girl, especially a pretty one. Hopefully, they meet Michonne first so she
can teach them manners. Maybe they try
sneaking up on Rick, Carl and Michonne, not knowing Daryl is their friend, and
right as they get close Daryl yells out a call exposing them to our groups
    wrath.
BTW-I am a terrible guesser that never guesses what is next.

Seems like there’s a lot of confusion about who A)Beth was taken by and B) who is this Joe gang Daryl is now with. Seemed pretty straightforward to me.
    A) Beth and Daryl were in a funeral parlor, clearly someone was keeping up the place, was clean stocked with food, but whoever occupies the house is clearly gone. When Beth and Daryl get separated we know her ankle is tweaked, if you watch the episode again you will see a huge cross sticker on the back windshield of car speeding away. Beth got driven away by Gabriel or similar character from comics, whether this was by force remains to be seen, either way Gabriel is a priest in comics and a good guy overall. Im confident he will be in the show also. Bottom line Beth should be fine.
    B) Joe and company are clearly the hunters from comic. Joe talks to Daryl about how “a bow guy is a bow guy…300 feet per second crossbow he’s been looking for..” all the guys are redneck looking, no offense to anyone, just observation. We know from last Rick episode this group is violent, erratic and eager to rape a women…clearly they’re bad news. This group have something to do with terminus? Anyones best guess, but I would say yes, the hunters and terminus are directly connected.

I’m hoping that was Father Gab, but take this in to consideration. Gabriel was verrrryyyy reluctant to leave his church in teh comics, he locked himself in there for a long time and wouldnt open that door for ANYTHING. He wouldnt be out scavenging for supplies imo, and if it was him who swooped up Beth, Beth would not let that person keep driving without Daryl, hell at this point i think Beth would have taken out her shank and killed whoever the driver was if he/she left Daryl, which indicated to me she was somehow threatened with her life if she said anything or tried to get out of the car. WOW THIS EPISODE………ONE OF MY FAVS IN THE WHOLE SERIES!

“joe and company are clearly the hunters” …if joe and his gang were the hunters they wouldnt have been scavenging ricks house for food. and they would have made some sort of comment about eating somebody by now. im just saying if you pay attention well enough youll figure out soon enough that joe guy isnt involved with the hunters at all. my guess is that its kinda like in the comics where rick comes across some redneck dudes that try to rape carl. rick then bites a dudes ear off and kills em. thats my guess anyway seeing how that was before the hunters wasnt it?

Bob said when all started there was a transmission from terminus so I don’t think its the band of hunters the world hadn’t become to what they are yet in my opinion its something else unless the hinters now took over terminus in that time in between now hats a thought

I find it interesting that Bob’s last name on the show is Stookey… Bob Stookey is the old, drunk combat medic that patched up the Governor when Michonne sliced him up in the comic. His character is also featured heavily in the Walking Dead novels that are based off of the Governor/Woodbury. That being said, I wonder how many similarities there will be between the TV and comic versions of Bob Stookey….

anybody think beth was captured by a religious cult ?

I think The Walking Dead represents change and how certain people deal with it. This episode showed us a bit of Bob’s back story and it was pretty emotional to watch him get drunk off cough medicine and watch the walker try to grab at him through the branch bars he had made in the shelter. Bob is changing for the better and he knows as long as he is not afraid he will only continue to change for the better and he will be able to keep the people around him safe. Daryl is changing too. He is becoming a more caring person and he is beginning to care for Beth. He may even love her. I am curious to see how he will deal with her going missing. Joe seems like the kind of guy Daryl is fighting hard not to be like. I feel like it must be hard to keep your faith in humanity surrounded by Joe’s gang.

Now that Bob and Sasha are hooking up, I do believe this could be her boyfriend and possible murder/suicide. Given the cross on the back of the window, it can only be Gabriel. Darryl is going to survive by any means necessary and will turn on this new group the first chance he gets when they run into his friends such as Rick, Michonne, and Carl.

One of the more shocking episodes for me…with the Beth kidnapping…

Yes, I expected something to happen to her…because she said those words, “You will miss me when I am gone”…but I sure did not see a kidnapping coming…that was a shocker to me…

But, what was equally as shocking…Daryl coming across the rednecks…and my first thought, they would blame him for Rick killing one of their men…the leaders line, “Why hurt yourself, when you can hurt others” or something to that effect – led me to believe, they suspect he killed their man – but they respected him cause he was a bowman…and took him right in as one of their own…

I think Maggie has lost it…killing walkers with a street sign and using their guts to write notes to Glenn…not a single thought about her sister…

They have really upgraded Bob’s character…compared to the comics…

Only 3 episodes left…we are gonna miss TWD when they are gone…but atleast we know they WILL return in 7 months…

The more I think about it, the more I’m suspecting that this may have been “Gareth” that took Beth. Maybe Gareth (Gabriel) came “home”, saw what was going on, grabbed Beth to help, & took off with Beth putting up a fuss. The thing that bothers me is that Gareth is supposed to be a combo of characters..so exactly who’s his character merged with and what are their intentions? Either way, she didn’t get in the car willingly. I also don’t think that whoever lives in the funeral home/church was part of the hunters crowd because the hunters are starving…the home/church was stocked with food. Setting traps with food to catch food just doesn’t make sense.

I see quite a few comments that sound like Daryl could be going willingly with Joe & the gang. I don’t see where he had a choice. I don’t see Daryl regressing, either. I think he’s past that. If anything, he’ll be stronger because he’ll be forced to fight his way out. This is the show, so I was thinking that this group could be a combination of “marauders” and hunters.

When they got to the funeral home I really thought for a bit that Gabriel was going to turn up, but not to be. Bob came out really well in this episode, I never really like the character in the show until this episode, loved his back storey though and I really warmed to him. I do think though that his story may mirror Dales from “fear the hunters” like a few people have said already, i mean it really did look like he got bit in the opening fog fight….

i want Beth and Daryl to get together so bad! they are perfect for each other, in the way you would not actually think. Daryl brings out the survivor in Beth, while she brings out the soft side of Daryl.

If the guys that found Daryl don’t have Beth, maybe it’s the Terminus group. Daryl may take up with this group since he seems to think Rick and the others are dead.

I think Gabriel maybe took Beth not to kidnap her but to help her and that was his house Beth and Daryl were in .

I personally loved the little hidden message at the end of the episode with Darryl. he was literally and figurativly at a CROSSROADS and it looks like he is gonna go down the wrong path.

Haven’t read all the comments, so sorry if this was already brought up, but whoever stocked the kitchen with food is who took Beth.

My thoughts are it was Father Gabriel. Replacing the Church (from the comics) with a funeral home. I also think Terminus is a trap set by The Hunters (Joe’s group).
