Andrew Lincoln Prepared to be Killed Off

At a press conference in Singapore, Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus shared some tidbits about the season’s upcoming return. Here is an excerpt from Yahoo’s coverage:

The show will go on – with or without him.

So says British actor Andrew Lincoln, who plays leading protagonist Sheriff Rick Grimes in the massively popular TV series The Walking Dead.

The 40-year-old believes his character’s death is bound to happen at some point – and that both he and the show would be okay with it.

“I’ve always maintained that if and when I die, which is an inevitability in the show… as long as it pushes the story on, I’ll go with it,” said the likeable British star at a media conference in Singapore on Monday.

Lincoln and fellow star Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl Dixon, were in town to promote the show  – currently on a break midway through its fourth season – which has become a global phenomenon.

Part of the show’s secret sauce is its knack for killing off characters at crucial junctures – but Lincoln is hoping for Grimes to stick around a fair bit longer, and hinted that the second half of the season will provide answers as to why.

This is Rick’s story…he’s the leader (although sometimes questionable)…if he got killed off, who would rise to take his place? Carl? Muuaaaaahahahaha! No, just no!

I’m just waiting to see who will be the next voice of reason…& Carol’s return…& all these other characters that you caught-up comic readers are talking about!!!

hahah to be honest, id like to see carl in the spotlight…however, he is NEVER where he should be…wheres carl? NOT IN THE HOUSE!!!! but me and yo have descussed ricks death….hmmm maybe we made it happen muahahahah

I get tired of screaming at the TV, “Carl, you need a BUTT CUTTIN’!!”

I can see Carl filling in the void left by Shane. At this point, that’s the only way I imagine Carl to be and probably the only way he could entertain me in the show.

I can’t think about Rick’s death….no…not right now…not anytime soon….don’t make me do it!! lol

i am a little confuzled……wait, do you mean that carl will try to kill rick? i think thats possible. now, in the comics, rick gets the phone call from lori about where its going to pick up in the show….maybe, since that already happened in the show, it wil be like, carl getting a call from judith….haha! or maybe sophia.

cant believe they think of killing him, hes the main character. It would be nice to see Daryll on the top but it is be better if he keeps on leading-!

I like how nobody even read the comics. Firt of all, the comics are really further in the story and rick is still alive. Although, kirkmen said that he wanted to kill rick soon because he wanted carl to be the main character. In the comics carl is really badass so..

    • Bastet January 14, 2014 at 9:17 am - Reply

…so a person who enjoys the show doesn’t necessarily have to read the comics, and you are posting on the show section of this site. Also, the show, as we should all know by now, doesn’t have to line up with the comics. And for those of us who read, we may not be at the same point in the comics you are. I, for one, do read the comics but I have been pacing it with the point in the show; I have yet to reach that point where Carl becomes a badass.

Yeah, he’s never actually directed stated that.

I really don’t want rick to die. Without him the show will not be the same. If he dies then carl might lose his mind and murder everyone.

Really you kill Hershel and now you talk about rick. We can only lose one awesome person per season. Its just to upsetting.

At my work everybody is caught up on the walking dead show.
When they are mean to me, I threaten to ruin all the deaths and stuff that has happened in the comics.
    I am a jerk.
    i dont care.

Lol! You’re lucky…there are only two people at my job that are fans & both LOVE spoilers (huh?)! They keep asking me questions about the comics (which I tell them they just need to read). The rest of them say, “Ew!” & “Oh no!” when I talk about the show.

am i wrong, or does rick need to shave and get a haircut….

  11. thewalkingdeadfanatic January 15, 2014 at 11:42 am - Reply

for LOST fans everywhere, did ricks ‘we get to come back’ speech remind anyone else of jacks ‘live together die alone’ speech……made me think of that!

on 1 exception that rick should have shot the governer, and jack was fine not shooting the other plane crash survivors….

  13. Wesley Durmon January 16, 2014 at 7:14 pm - Reply

He’s the main character. Really this show/story started with him and really is his story. If he dies then you can have spin offs about this world but it will not be the same story.

  14. Chris Bigger January 17, 2014 at 9:17 am - Reply

The good thing about Rick is the tv show still has some good stories to tell about him following the book. I’m sure Rick will die at some point in the book and the show but it will be really hard to watch or read without him in either

I’d be pretty okay with TV show Rick dying.

  16. Javan Pope January 20, 2014 at 7:11 am - Reply

If Rick and Carl get killed in the show, i will NEVER watch the Walking Dead ever again…..that’s a promise.
