Morgan finds the missing horse from the previous episode while the surviving Savior from Carol’s massacre seeks revenge. Meanwhile, a man is being chased through the woods by The Saviors. They corner him and beat him up, explaining he didn’t follow the rules. Carl locks Enid in a closet after she tries stopping him from leaving with the others. Throwing their past away, Rick gives his blessing to Father Gabriel to man security in Alexandria while he and the others head to The Hilltop.
Elsewhere, Morgan finally locates Carol, who’s wounded on a stoop. He takes her inside and treats her wounds. He suggests they head back to Alexandria to get her help but she refuses. Rick and the gang confront a group of Saviors blocking the road. The Saviors ask them to surrender all their belongings but Rick says, “That deal isn’t going to work for us.” The main Savior says it might be the last day on Earth for one of the people in Rick’s group.
Carol tells Morgan she left so she doesn’t have to kill anymore. Back on the road Rick’s group runs into ANOTHER Savior roadblock. They leave and are later confronted with a line of tied-up walkers blocking the path. They notice one of them has Michonne’s dredlocks stapled in its head; the other has Daryl’s arrows in its chest. They suddenly come under fire from Saviors hiding in the trees. They take out the walkers, race to the RV, and forge their way ahead. Rick surmises the Saviors intentionally didn’t kill them and are luring them in their direction. GUESS WHAT, they encounter yet another Savior roadblock! This one’s essentially a tower of Saviors.
Carol strides through a nearby town and gets tackled by the surviving Savior that was searching for her. Wanting to kill her slowly, he shoots her in the arm and leg while she begs for death. He tries to shoot her one last time but Morgan shows up and KILLS him with the gun Rick gave him. Carol begs Morgan to let her go when two armored men on horseback confront them. (COULD THEY BE FROM THE KINGDOM?? PROBABLY)!
Rick and the group confront their 8,000th roadblock and the man captured earlier in the episode is hung off a bridge behind them. Aaron tries to shoot him down but Rick says they need the ammo. The logs behind them catch fire and the disembodied voice of the main Savior implores them to go. That night, Eugene hatches a plan to drive the RV solo while the rest of them attempt to take Maggie to The Hilltop on foot.
Rick and the group carry Maggie through the woods on a stretcher when they hear the familiar Savior whistle. They arrive at a clearing completely surrounded by Saviors. The Lead Savior takes their weapons and makes them get on their knees like Eugene, who they captured and beat. Dwight brings Daryl, Michonne, and Glenn out of a truck and lines them up with the others. Lead Savior taps on the RV and out…comes…NEGAN. “It’s going to be pee-pee pants city in here REAL soon,” Negan tells them.
Negan introduces himself to Rick and berates him for killing his people. “You are so going to regret crossing me in a few minutes,” he wanrs. Negan explains everything they have now belongs to him. “Now, I’m going to beat the holy hell out of you,” he promises. He introduces him to his barbed bat, Lucille and accuses Carl of taking their guns. He threatens to kill Maggie and Glenn tries to tackle him. He’s restrained by Dwight and forced back into line. Negan warns them not to EVER do that again.
Unable to decide who to kill, Negan (like in the comics) chooses to play a cruel game of eeny-meeny-miney-moe with Lucille. He treads down the line and points at everyone, chanting the rhyme. Negan finally chooses someone and warns everyone else not to move or he’ll feed Carl’s other eye to Rick. We only get to watch from the victim’s point of view. The screen cuts to black as we hear a skull being beaten in. And then…nothing.
Negan rocked. JDM did an AWESOME job. But seriously… Shitty shitty cliffhanger. I mean, I’m really pissed right now. As a devout comic and show fan, you owe us more than that. Really? Great episode… Crap cliffhanger. See you in Octobee I guess. Not happy.
Ok… I feel a little better. Hell of an episode. Don’t get me wrong. I just hate having to wait until October. But yay kingdom! Was that Dante? Really I like JDMs take on Negan. Really good choice.
Guys, don’t downvote. Sean is just trying to look at the positives. JDM was great.
The two armored guys… one on the horse? I thought of Ken & Marco.
I think your right. Don’t know why I thought Dante because he wasn’t even from the Kingdom. I think I was seeing too much Red from the ending of the episode.
My Review…
Ok. I have had a night (albeit a short one) to sleep off the effects of the episode. I have experienced, elation, rage, hatred and the works. So I have finally got my thought on the episode in order. Here is my take.
Carol and Morgan – This was a plot device to bring the Kingdom into the mix. I feel it was a fairly weaker plot line. The Carol gone rogue story arc, at least I feel, is somewhat lazy. It took a strong character and made that character weak for really no apparent reason. Carol became a MacGuffin in many ways. her character is now meaningless except for driving the plot, which I feel is sad as she was a fan favorite for a long time. Conversely, I like how Morgan came back from being a pacifist. That was a more pleasant moment for a character that I felt they had destroyed. Overall, this story line was carried out way too long, and I though the savior following Carol and Morgan for god-only-knows how many miles seemed weak and far-fetched even for this show.
The Gauntlet – Rick and Company in the RV – This was an unnerving experience, albeit one that they wasted a little too much time on. After the first two incidents with the Saviors, by that time the suspense was lost. Yeah… the Saviors are everywhere. We get that. All roads blocked. Check. It lost its impact and dragged the show out way too long. Having Eugene attempt to sacrifice himself in the RV while the rest travelled on foot was a moot point because everyone in the word already knew how it was going to turn out, which brings us to…
Negan – I have thought about this a lot. JDM’s take on Negan was exciting. I think he is a good fit, despite not being as physically intimidating, however, I feel he was let down by writing. First, the shows characters, with the exception of Michonne and Abraham’s crew are enever exact representations of the comics. I get that. However, I feel the writing for this episode let down JDM and Negan ultimately.
First off… JDM and that scruff. I really wish he went clean shaven. That was a mistake. Clean shaven he stands out from the Saviors. He is royalty. It shows how in all this turmoil, he has the luxury to shave, which I feel is an important aspect of the character and his ego. With the beard (and partly due to his frame) Negan is borderline Hipster Negan. Just give him some matching frames to go with his scarf. But here is the main problem, and it goes well past not dropping a single F-Bomb which was a HUGE disappointment. The writing did not let Negan be Negan. Part of the selection scene was discovering who Negan is. Primarily, I think a pivotal moment was when he stated he would not select Michonne because he wasn’t a racist. It did a lot for the psychology of Negan. Unhinged yet calculating. Psychotic with a code. JDM’s Negan was laid back to the point of lethargy. But again, we must remember, this is not graphic novel Negan. It’s “real-world” Negan. Ultimately, the writers failed him.
The Ending – This is the biggest point of contention. It basically set the internet on fire. So here goes. I don’t think anyone is happy. Not at all. And as Negan said “I just can’t decide,” I don’t think the show runners can either. Honestly, I don’t think they have chosen who died yet. Maybe, maybe not. The cliffhanger was cheap, cheesy, and an affront to both loyal show and graphic novel fans. It took a pivotal moment and destroyed it. The most defining moment in the entire series was blown, and there are no re-does. I think the show runners have a different mentality though. They don’t view these long season breaks as that. I feel that’s partly due to the fact that they run together and there are no gaps in time between seasons. Next season will pick right up where we left off. They may even show Glenn or Abraham (my two leading candidates) getting bashed from a non-first person view. Ultimately though, it was a really poor ending and way to treat fans. No justification on Talking Dead can fix that.
Final Score – C – The show was a half hour longer than it needed to be, and Negan was on screen 10-20 minutes less than he should have been. Saving his appearance for the last five minutes was pointless, as he still had the Phuckity Phuck censored out of him. The had some high highs, but the ending was the lowest of the low. Daryl being around confirms that he has become too big to kill. I think he will only ever be killed off when Norman Reedus decided he no longer wants to be a part of TWD.
Random Observations – Mustached comb over dude. Why? We had a chance to really cement Dwight as Negan’s right hand man, but instead they used this random guy we’ve never seen. That really didn’t make sense to me. Also, that whistling. Is the Hunger Games the only movie they have to watch in the Zombie Apocalypse? Maggie. She went from deathbed and she doesn’t have much time to “let me walk” fairly quick. She still looks like crap.
There you have it. My clear-minded honest review. Take it with a grain of salt and some barbed wire.
And apologies for spelling errors. Typed it quickly and there is still no edit function here.
Very well stated! I agree on all points.
SPOT ON!!!
Really like your reviews Sean! 🙂
Completely unrelated, but just take a look at what the legend Justin Hall did.
Well said. I agree on JDM good actor but the writing let him down I wonder if they have a take of his monologue laced with profanity maybe a dvd extra. I felt the intimidation factor wasn’t there but that wasn’t JDMs fault he had a good negan tone just doesn’t have the size or profanity to complete it.
I
I agree it has to be glenn or abraham most everyone else they gave a reason why they were not going to be killed. To cement negan as a big bad villain the only options left are Abraham and Glenn. Abraham would not have the emotional impact as Glenn but the show could justify it by saying negan took out their biggest guy
The more I think about it, the more I am certain its Glenn. I’m basing this on how they ended this episode. Its really their own fault. I think a lot of it has to do with the Glenn death fake out earlier and wanting to put time between that and his actual death.
Now, if it were me? I would kill Abraham. Glenn looks like the least threatening out of any of them. I’d take out the muscle. But… Glenn trying to protect Maggie probably sealed his fate.
Should be Maggie, because Negan told Rick that he cant work with him anymore if he is dead and Maggie looks very sick, Negan wouldnt want somebody they need to take care of, and a sick woman cant work that well so probably Negan chose To kill Maggie and played that minie minie monie moo but ended up to Maggie intentionally…
Upon his introduction in the infamous issue #100, Negan and his massive band of crazies brought Rick, Heath, Carl, Maggie, Glenn, Sophia and Michonne outside of the walls and lined them up on their knees. After demanding to know who the leader is, Negan ruled Rick out as his victim, claiming he would be a martyr and Alexandria would rally behind his death. A game of eenie-meenie-minie-moe ensues and Negan selects Glenn and unleashes a hellish swing of his bat straight down onto Glenn’s skull. Rick and the group have no choice but to watch as Glenn’s head is completely bashed to bits.
Lovely review my only addition would be not who does die but who doesn’t die….if you watch really closely atRiicks face, before Negan does his smashing, the shadows on his face show a lot, Negan’s shadow is on the right side of Ricks’s face. It shows that no one “to the left of Rick” dies. Negan’s shadow is casted on the right side of Rick’s face. That means Negan is on the right side of Rick when he does the bashing. 6 years of film school tells me Nicotero wouldn’t make that lighting mistake. Go back check it out and let me know. I’m saying Sasha dies, my son says Aaron dies. Carl doesn’t die because JDM states it in a post finale interview that it’s not Rick or Carl obviously. Eugene has too much work to do and killing Shasha would enrage Abraham who’s already supposed to be dead.
I dissected the video too myself and I thought exactly the same thing when I saw Carl’s “hat shadow” on Negan’s leather jacket and face before he whacked away, but I analyzed the trees (the tops of them and length) and then I set up a diorama with a flash light and it all comes down to the shadows and one little ‘white stone/leaf’. NEGAN turns to his left and walks about 4 feet after the shadow crosses to the right of his face (approx Maggie/Abraham/Daryl zone) before he whacks. FREEZE FRAME BY FRAME during the whacking and you will notice a little pile of upturned dirt of leaves and one white/gray leaf or stone when they look down and to their left a bit.. when the person gets whacked and I don’t know if this is subliminal or coincidence (like the Carl shadows I noticed) but one of the frames shows a person with short hair wearing a light blue shirt sitting on the shape of a hand… anyways the only person who had a white leaf in front of them WITH the pile of dirt/leaves was Maggie.. and the shadow of Negan to the reflection of the light instigates it’s either Maggie (which would make sense if they want to play the role reversal here to Glenn and make him the leader of Hilltop) or it’s Abraham. Which he was supposed to take Denise’s arrow.. Robert mentioned on TTD that the victim will set the story for the next season. Who else would set the story but Maggie. This whole adventure was about Maggie… her safety and what a pleasant way to teach Rick that ” you can’t save everyone ” and that this mission was all for nothing. Honestly, we just won’t know until October.
I completely agree with your review-I was so let down & pissed by the ending. I feel the whole build up was a total cock tease (as the real Negan would say). The most classic moment we all were wanting for was ruined….
Or the word Cunt… If Games of Thrones can throw it out their, why can’t TWD. Agree
Terrible ending. It could have been epic. Cowardly writing. We could have spent the next six months celebrating the life of the character we lost and looking forward to seeing how the others react to the situation they are in. The writers and director let us all down.
You are absolutely right. I do feel let down. I also feel used. I feel like I was used for ratings and more money for their fat pockets, but not given what I deserved. We deserved a definitive ending.
Yes they have finally “KILLED GLEN” They have been thinking of way’s to kill Glen, thing back Glen was about to get his head chopped off and Karl saved the day. Two time Glen was over run by Walker’s with his back to the wall. An now in the Comic Book – Image of Glen’s body on the grown with his head beat completely in “SMACHED” and one eyeball left. Sorry their will be know more Glen in the story’s to come.
Sorry its not Glen, could be Maggie, Sasha or Eutene. Maggie is loved by everybody?,? But she looks sick and Negan does not want somebody who does not have enough strength to work for him.
Its glenn, it has to be. That’s the story, it would alter the ultimate story too much if it’s anyone else. Even if its abraham. Glenns death has to galvanize maggie to ultimately become a leader
I didn’t light the ending, I think you could’ve cut 2 minutes of carols plot to really gore-out and really show Glenn getting his head bashed in, with him screaming out maggies name and everyone crying. And then blur out to black. Leaving the viewers in total shock.
Terrible end. Absolute worst.
We’ve had 6 months to speculate already. What’s the benefit of making us wait 6 more?
Totally agree. They screwed up one of the biggest moments in the entire series. This isn’t creating suspense, it’s just taking away the payoff we’ve been waiting for all season. Very disappointing.
Remember when Jesus told Ricks group that Negan introduced himself to the Hilltop by bashing a sixteen year old boys head in. It shows that he’s merciless. I think he’s gonna do in Abrahams ex. She’s a woman and I think it would send Abraham over the edge, a set up for some serious payback. Killing Maggie, a sick pregnant woman is toooooooo evil. I really hope it’s not anyone from the prison but you never know.
Fuck. You.
What a fucking joke of an ending. I fucking hate that I’m this mad and I hate that I like this show because I want to desperately say I’m fucking DONE. I want to say I’m done but I know I’m probably gonna slink over to the couch in October to see who it was. But know this. You fucking dicks destroyed any tension this death has NO MATTER WHO IT IS.
All that build up. For a fucking waste. This was a joke of a finale.
I totally agree with you. The ending was horrible. Now I have to wait until next season to find out who it was that gets beaten up by Neagan and Lucille.
Absolute HORRID ending. I may never watch this show again. You went too far this time producers.
How are we supposed to wait til october to discover who the victim was??? Are u f*cking crazy???? I’m extremelly angry!!!!!!!
Relax. Take it easy. Thats the thrill and ride on it… Dont be carried away too much, thats the excitement to wait and watch it… Be patient.. Time is fast and will be October soon…okay, fo the meantime be excited to wait❤️
Whether we liked the ending or not, it’s got us all talking.
Was not a good ending would have been better if the shot it out at first road block
Really, really disappointed that you don’t seem to trust us fans to come back next season without a cheesy gimmick. Upset.
Yeah, despite how much I’ve loved this show, it now feels like they’ve sold out. That’s exactly how I feel, too, like they don’t trust the fans anymore … I’ll watch come October, but I pretty much don’t care who they killed now. Very disappointed.
All the hype for this? The actors – Late for work … couldn’t sleep … yada yada yada and even they don’t know yet who bought the farm. Disingenuous at best.
I sure had a hard time not going into further details with you on that other post earlier!
Geeze, I can understand why now. It just feels like everyone from producers to actors to AMC sold out on this one. I think they are going to regret this particular cliffhanger. It was just totally unnecessary!
Gimple says they’re gonna write to justify it. I can’t see that happening.
They shouldn’t have to write to justify. They should have known where they were going in the first place and used better storytelling devices than cheap cliffhangers and blood spattering the camera lens. I’m so disappointed with them.
Negan is a pussy
I am not very happy with this Negan at all, he is just to cruel, Rick has just tried to take care of his family, to survive. Signed Angry… Bring back Darryl..
I don’t know what I hate more, this fucked up cliffhanger or the fact that I’ve been pissed about it for weeks, thanks to the Spoiling Dead Fucks. Ruined.
what ? did TSDF’s force you to listen ? Grow up.
I didn’t listen to anything. I looked at an irrelevant article on a site that had a “ticker” with links to other stories & the link given for leaked details had wording that gave away the finale. We all know what bottom feeders are the cause.
So you can shut up.
You can go fuck yourself.
This is in reference to “Marine,” not Bastet. If there was confusion.
Hard to tell, depending on what they’re using to view this but it’s obvious that a couple of bottom feeders are here, downvoting, as if I give a damn. I know you’re with me.
I like everyone who is facing Lucille, so my heart will be broken regardless who it is. There were no “red shirts”. Hope it’s not one of the originals. I’ll be done. I think the writers aren’t sure who they’ll kill off yet. Negan is beyond evil, and I thought the Governor was bad though the Gov was not as bad as his comic book persona.
You haven’t gotten to Negan’s entrance in the comic yet, have you? I’m interested to know how people who haven’t read that part feel about this shithanger.
Hello Bastet. How’s my TWD buddy. Been busy, but read the comics purchased. Left you a message on earlier post saying that I’m buying more comics soon. (Tomorrow). I’m in Woodbury, now. Rick lost hand and tricked into revealing the rest of group is in a prison somewhere, and Michonne is locked away and Gov’s sex slave. I am sick with what Michonnes going through. I see why the writers changed things for TV. Some things are just too graphic. Ex: the Michonne dilemma. I feel as if I’m experiencing two different series. It’s definitely a wild ride. Gonna take me a while to catch up with the rest of you due to busy schedule. Still enjoying the comparisons you guys make. I no longer consider your comments spoilers because the way the comics and shows are written, you just never know what’s gonna happen. Thanks for suggesting the comics.
Oh, I love Carol in the show, but in the comic she’s WHACKED!!!! Can’t wait to read where they take her character. Gov in the show was charismatic. Gov in the comic is a definite uncharming sleaze. He FED the Walkers PEOPLE!!!! I was eating when I read that. It ruined my appetite. Can’t wait to pick up more comics tomorrow.
The cliffhanger… Really, really, disappointed. I just knew the end would show a severe bashing that would take me six months to get over.
LOL!
I’m here but I’ve been selective about what posts I visit on the site for obvious reasons (above). I guess, starting next month, I won’t be able to read a damn thing anywhere online!
I remember when I got to the point you’re at in the comic. I had the hardcovers & couldn’t put them down… speechless because I didn’t realize comics could be like that! I haven’t slowed down since! After you’ve gone a ways more, you might be interested in picking up the novels, if you read novels. Some people don’t care for the Jay Bonansinga books, but I found the POV from The Governor’s side of Woodbury a nice supplement to the comics.
I started with the show, but it’s the comic that’s #1 for me. If I had to choose between the two, I wouldn’t hesitate to pick the comic. I’m glad you’re enjoying it!!
F************************ck my life! Sweet Baby Jesus don’t take my Glenn away! This episode was emotionally tiring. I started feeling sick, and I do mean sick (like the flu) when Rick was with Maggie telling her everything was going to be okay. Oh, I just remembered… GLENN NO!
Not happy at all disappointed an upset!!! Have us all amped up an let down damn it!!!
SERIOUSLY WHAT THE FUCK! Man FUCK ALL OF YOU! You take the best and scariest moment in the comics and turn it into a cliffhanger!? The reason the moment was so popular was because of how fast it all went and THE FUCKING SHOCK!!! It was surprising, we waited 6 months for an obvious cliffhanger now another GOD DAMN CLIFFHANGER!?!?!? It was already getting dragged on but that’s because Negan is just that kinda guy, don’t get me wrong Negan was great. However, fuck you, to the writers and everyone else who worked on this. A suspenseful moment turned to horse shit, by you AMC. GOOD GOD DAMN JOB! Now when October hits all the suspense will be gone. Just fuck you. You couldn’t make up your fucking mind so you left s with that shitty cliffhanger. Just go fuck yourself.
I never thought I would say this but this fucked up finale was more disappointing then the crappy Star Wars prequels. It’s jump the shark time TWD fans. I’m still pissed….
lots of people are gonna stop watching the show. You are dumb enough to make us all wait. You are an idiot. At least show us who he hits. What a joke I swear. If my babies Carl,Daryl, or Rick die I’m gonna stop watching the show. Didn’t know you hated your fans…?¿?
No we ain’t!
Oh, I am. I’m done. This is not the comic adaptation for me.
I don’t think I’ll stop watching but my enthuiasm took a hit.
So well said. Rather than upvote, I’ll repost in tribute.

One of the most iconic moments in the history of comics has been ruined thanks to hacks! The Negan death is supposed to be a grim, shocking, and abrupt moment, and instead it was used as a cheesy gimmick to get views! The show has devolved into a soulless product that cares more about gimmicks and view counts, then artistic merit. Gimple’s arguement that “It was the end of the story.” was the most pretentious, copout, excuse, that I have ever seen! The Glenn fakeout was bad enough! Apparently Rick’s group being under the control of a dictator, and one of the group members being dead wasn’t a big enough cliffhanger! They needed to ASSURE that the premier got a billion views! Well nope… I’m done! I buy the digital season pass every year, but not next year! I quit! There is already a better, gimmick free, version of this story, and it’s called the comic series. The comics have swearing, no restrictions, and complete artistic control! Anyone who wants to stay on board because ‘they can’t stop watching’ despite this travesty, is a mindless fanboy consumer. You are only in for more underwhelming gimmicks, and the utter butchery of more iconic moments that the comic did a million times better!
You said a mouthful when you said a soulless gimmick. We went five seasons without any of that crap, and now all of a sudden, we’ve got cheesy gimmicks from the 80s. Seriously TWD? Is this the best you could do? Not impressed at all. Rather disgusted, in fact.
You know what I’m most bitter about? The fact that no matter how bitter I am, you can’t “fix” this. There’s not another “better” moment in the comic that you’ll get right because you learned the lesson this time. This was it. One of the most climactic moments. And you fucking pissed on it. Fuck you.
I was so disappointed by it too but probably not for the same reason as you. The mannerisms weren’t right.. there was NO LAUGHTER from NEGAN.. I was honestly DISAPPOINTED by his entrance because it just didn’t FEEL the SAME. It wasn’t evil enough for me.
Alpha’s boundary marker would be the only thing that comes close.
Negan’s entrance tainted by that terrible choice.
Everyone is saying that NEGAN WAS AWESOME.. but I honestly think that he could’ve been WAY MORE INTENSE. I don’t think he got the MANNERISMS down right. I was waiting but I was so disappointed, I am so f***ing pissed by that. He wasn’t scary, he wasn’t evil.. he wasn’t ANYTHING compared to the Governor who was feared. I am NOT FEARING NEGAN. I expected way more like cackles, laughter (the laughter in the comics was extremely bone shattering and usually is in horror movies too)…and not to mention… THERE WERE NO INSULTS. That ending wasn’t convincing at all.
We don’t deserve this
My thoughts on this episode…
YES YES A MILLION TIMES YES, IM STEALING THIS SHIT
I love you.
Yeah…cliffhanger was a swing and a miss. Lame. Definitely wasted the emotions this scene evoked in the comics. Hopefully Negan’s enie meanie mine moe ended on the show writers.
best quote here…. Hope it ended on the show writers… very nice!
Disappointing and almost insulting.
Wouldn’t even say “almost.” I’ve NEVER felt more disrespected as a loyal viewer.
Each season has become: Blah blah blah and in the next season…
The horse riding kingdom men help Morgan and Carol. Glenn is killed by Lucille. Good nite.
The!!!!!Azzaro qa!
Fuck Gimpel and this waste of an hour and a half. Leaving a cliffhanger like this just shows poor story ideas as they don’t follow the comics as much as they should. I have a good intro to next season – Scott Gimpel is fired. And who gives a crap about Fear anyway? That shit is just another Walking Dead on the West coast.
I wasted on 90 minutes on that ??!!??!! The 1st & 9th Episodes Season 6 were at least fun to watch. The rest of the season just sucked and kept going downhill. I thought the finale would fix that up – but, NOoooo.
Watching the TeleTubbies scares me more than watching that LAME excuse for a TWD finale. WTF!!! No action to speak of and a 3rd grader could edit scenes better. It looks like you didn’t pay your bills or something and had to use old clips patched together until the last 2 minutes. You could have let the commercials run for 88 minutes and we wouldn’t have missed anything.
That was LAME and disrespectful to your cast and fans. GET YOUR SHEEITE TOGETHER!!!!
I may not watch again (I’ve watched since the 1st episode). I may also stop watching FTWD if you’re going to film it like that too.
You guys obviously don’t give 2 cents for anyone or anything but your own egos. That’s why shows don’t get renewed you dick heads!!
Cliffhanger my ass! just some blood on screen — the Terminus episode at the slaughter trough was better by far for high drama and scariness. And it wasn’t even a finale, it was just the 1st episode of Season 5.
LAME LAME LAME
TWD
Ummm, April Fools’s has already passed guys…
HOW TO RUIN THE BEST PART FROM THE COMICS 101 WITH THE AMC SHITHEADS! Why the FUCK do that you FUCKING IDIOTS! Last time someone fucked this up so royally, it was called Star Wars prequels. IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY FUCKING SENSEEEEE! A walnut would know how to end that episode better!
Extremely dissapointed, extremelly desmotivated and extremely PISSED. I’m SO glad I started reading the comics because it’s so much fucking better than this fucking shit! This made me realize how much AMC is making the show fucked up. It’s like their fucking personal per cash cow. No, they didn’t make Fear because they heard us fans wanted more. They did it because they’re making that CASHHH! And only through this episode it made me realize that Glenn’s fakeout and episode 8 cliffhanger were because of the money. Kirkman hears our complains, like when somebody complained about quickly resolver cliffhangers, he responded: Yes, and I’m sorry for that. I’ll try to make less of those. You could learn a thing or two AMC. You made a awesome show a pile of fucking donkey shit with this season. And here I was thinking that after episode 9 things would get better. I have no words…
Sorry Eugene. I believe it is you.
I agree with you that it’s Eugene. Since Eugene passed on the recipe for bullets to Rick he now no longer serves a purpose. All season long the writers have been building up his character and turning him into a hero.
It could have been anybody. He was very lazy with the wordplay, and the camera shots were meant to mislead about where he was in the line. Not sure it was so simple as this. But I freaking LOVE this image you made up. Very compelling argument.
I hope not. Making it Glenn in the comics served a purpose. Showed that our A team hadn’t become untouchable. Eugene has been fun but he hasn’t earned the same emotional reaction.
RUINED!!!
I agree with most of the post, what were y’all thinking, not interested in FEAR OF THE WALKING DEAD AT ALL, get back to the original WALKING DEAD, let me name a few, Rick, Karl, Darryl, Michonne, Carol , Glenn etc: & what happen to all life is precious, NEGAN IS A JOKE, don’t understand if it’s that many w/ Negan why they need Rick’s crew? DISAPPOINTED IN THE FINALE
I liked it all around, despite all these haters and the excellent points they make. The episode was brilliantly crafted. And the ending was very significant in the sense that it doesn’t matter who Negan chose to kill. This group is a family, and any one of their deaths would be enough to lead Rick to go on a killing rampage and end Negan’s reign next season (or two). It clearly wasn’t Carl, leaving the awesome arc of Carl in Negan’s compound available for next season. And it clearly wasn’t Rick. This is enough for me. Except I do care for Michonne beyond most others (that’s who I’ll “riot” for when the time comes).
Any of the other characters, as hard as it may be to swallow, are none essential to the overall progression of this story. It probably wasn’t Darly (too sexy and freaking amazing, and leaves TWD universe open for unique story arcs not seen in the comic), Maggie (dope story arcs available, and how the heck could you kill a baby on TV), Eugene (that’d be too obvious cuz everyone hates him) or Michonne (amazingly deep and emotionally powerful background story, intrinsically dope, and some powerful story arcs potentially available in the future); however I could seriously see them killing off Aaron, Sasha, Abraham, Glen or Rosita. I could also see Darly, but it just doesn’t seem like a financially smart move for the franchise especially with this lackluster finally.
Overall I think this was a freaking A plus episode. On par with season 4 and 5 finale (which also leave a lot to be desired in themselves). But as a whole, love the story and how I am continually engaged. It I hadn’t started reading the comics back in the season 3 finale (super lame), this episode would certainly drive me to buy every single issue.
THAT DOESN’T CHANGE THE FACT THAT THERE’LL BE NO SUSPENSE WHEN IT RETURNS! It was just their lazy fucking writing.
It absolutely does matter who he killed. Making it Glenn in the comics showed our A team wasn’t invincible. They weren’t untouchable. Making it a big fat WHO KNOWS destroys the tension. Give six months, I won’t give a fuck who it is anymore. Making it anyone besides one of our original Atlanta survivors will completely kill any almost nonexistent tension this death has left. Sure, it serves the same purpose for Rick and the gang. But as a viewer, I expect good storytelling. Changing the death affects my shock, how much I’m invested in retribution, and how much I care about anything afterwards. How a story makes you feel is just as important as the events of the story. And frankly, this story is making me feel insulted right now. And not because it was written well.
But I do so hope it was Daryl. Doubt it will be now but I’m tired of his “unique” stories of “man cares about blonde girl, blonde girl gets killed, man learns something about himself while being super mopey.” Wash, rinse, repeat.
I agree it was significant on the comic, but in the show at this point I just feel like “meh, I don’t really are who dies anymore.” After I was ass fucked for weeks over the whole Glen debacle earlier this season, I just cant invest so much emotion into these characters. Maybe you are right about the direction of the writing of this show, it is nowhere near as brilliant and engaging as the comics. But it is keeping me excited to see what comes next, and from a money making franchise that is the very least I can expect.
I’m done with it after this. Too many times this show has been sloppy or messed up in some other way. The teases are old at this point and this was the ultimate one.
Solidly fair points on this entire post. I always appreciate your perspective Naty
And as far as Negan goes… FUCKING AWESOME. JDM brought what I thought was a lovable and likable character, with an undertone (albeit very blatant) of murderous psychopathic tendencies. I’m glad he isn’t exactly like the comic books, not many of the characters on the show are exactly as they are in the comics. JDM bring a uniqueness that I am thoroughly excited for in the coming episodes. I can’t wait to see what he does. I’m a little disappointed he didn’t swear at all, but I hear that will be fixed in the DVD release.
You know, I REALLY hate when people say “everyone” does something when it’s simply not true. I don’t hate Eugene. Please speak for yourself.
You are right Dragonetta. Some people like the fact that Eugene is a huge ass to the people that have ensured his survival for this long. Some people like the fact that he is stubborn and typically has his own interest in mind as a primary concern, believing all alternatives to his own view to be wrong simply because the ideas manifested from someone of lesser intelligence.
YUP, you are totally right; be it the show or the comic, people seem to think that Eugene is a lovable guy who is purely altruistic.
I like everyone too. But my faves are everyone from prison episodes. 🙂
Had to scroll all the way down here before getting to a comment from someone who liked the episode.
I also liked it, I liked the way we watched Rick realise he had bitten off more then he could chew. He knew going on foot was clutching at straws. He was helpless. I liked the roadblocks over and over, the numbers of the enemy increasing each time. The whole episode was the introduction to Negan. I actually thought, and as a comic reader also, this was a nice addition to really show the power that Negan has. I liked Negan but I think they missed a trick leaving out the line about not wanting to be seen as a racist, that and his disgust of rape really gave me a different perspective of Negan in the comics. I guess that line can still be used but it gives a nice early insight to Negan in the comic.
The cliffhanger, it didn’t bother me either. I loved the first person view of it, taking it like a champ. The ringing in the ears muffling the sounds of cries from the rest of the group. I thought it was clever.
To balance it out, what I wasn’t keen on Negans beard, I think that was mentioned above. I was hoping, unrealistically I know, that Negan would come in and bring his comic vocabulary.
And who was the guy the saviours were holding? Did I miss something? He wasn’t part of Ricks crew was he? Did they think he was?
I wondered same. Was the guy someone from hilltop?
Purely shitty.
And you know they will drag out the opening of the 1st episode of next season and not reveal who it was in the first minute of the episode.
Can’t say it any better than everyone else has above already. Shitty. Fuck you, AMC.
90 minutes because it was a regular episode= 60 minutes + 30 minutes of commercials and Negan being long-winded just enough to make it 30 extra minutes.
Commercials every 5 minutes!!
Second half of the season had the same formula…
Someone runs off or does something thinking only of themselves and they put lots of others at risk because people have to go chase them…i.e. Enid, Carol, the guy that died on top of Glenn, Deanna’s sons,Daryl, etc…
As I’m Argentinian I need to fuck this bull shit episode using my mother tongue… Hijos de re mil puta me cagaron el final años esperando este puto momento y lo arruinan asi forros vendidos a lo comercial manga de caretas desperdicie 90 minutos de mi vida.
Also, Daryl getting shot last episode had no suspense or no impact to this episode or anything going forward. Cheap attempt at a cliffhanger last week…should have been a sign of how shitty this episode would end.
Well let me be like one of maybe two people on here who is the contrarian. I liked it. I liked the cliffhanger. That eenie, meenie, game is about unpredictability and now we get to wait for 6 months. I get that people are pissed. No doubt there are some actors who will have to hold their breaths for a few months. (I’m looking at you Michael Cudlitz). But I love the way it played out and I think it did what they set out to do.
Sorry folks. With respect to the ones who are angry, I liked it.
You like all the tension of losing an actor going out of the room like hot air in a popped balloon? You can have something for the sake of being “unpredictable” and not blue ball the audience… AGAIN.
fuck you
Fuck you
FUCK YOU.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING SO GODDAMN LONG FOR THIS MOMENT AND FOR WHAT? TO BE TOLD THAT I HAVE TO WAIT 6 MORE MONTHS? I SWEAR TO GOD AMC I AM DONE WITH YOU.
AMC really fucked this up, bad. This episode was so long, and nothing even happened until the final few minutes. I don’t understand the many RV scenes, they shouldn’t have taken up so much time. For a finale, this was awful, this should have been the episode leading up to the finale. Then the cliffhanger, way to fuck your fans. I mean you really fucked all of us, and I hope some heads roll. This was suppose to be the most crazy intense scene in the entire walking dead series and you fucking did a cliffhanger. This could have been The Walking Dead’s Red Wedding episode. Everybody and their mom knows about the Red Wedding episode from Game of Thrones. You threw away that memorable moment. Now all of you have is a shitty episode that will only ever be remembered because of how awful it was. Fix this, we deserve better. Remove Scott Gimple, we deserve better.
Cliffhangers are great for certain situations.. but this is not a situation you can pull that shit with. It doesn’t sit right. I love the books and the show, but this is just.. not cool.
I’m hoping season 7 starts with the “you can blink” line and then plays out the full scene properly with no POV shots. A flash foward to the next day/week scenario won’t have the proper impact either. Not even close. If we don’t see everyone’s immediate reactions and the victim’s body as Negan explains he’ll be back in a week and leaves with a “ta ta”.. this will just be even more disappointing.
I’ve been reading through all these comments and this the one i agree with the most. Season 7 should start right from Negans ” eeeniee meeenniiiee minnniiee moee” monologue. We need to see the immediate reactions, we need to live that carnage through their eyes, and then they can transition into the opening credits and do all the flashes forward and back they want lol. on a separate note its days like this i wish HBO never turned down TWD. im starting to feel that AMC just cant live up to what TWD needs being on basic TV. I love the show to death but i just felt empty after that finale. The first time that I’ve ever felt that the show couldn’t match the comics intensity.
I love the show and will definitely continue watching, but as a comic reader I can say they messed up the most pivotal moment in the series. My buddy joked last week that they would end it exactly like this and we quickly laughed it off because that would be met with universal outrage and made no sense to do from a storytelling perspective. Well they did it and it’s literally being met with universal outrage. I’m really never a big complainer, but this made absolutely no sense. I like Scott Gimple, but to explain the reason for it as “it’s the end of that story” is completely inaccurate. The identity of the victim is the most important part of the end of this story. Can’t believe between the powers that be on the show, no-one stood up and said this is a horrible idea we shouldn’t even be considering, much less actually do. Would have been the best episode ever if they’d ended it correctly. Still love the show, but I think even they are realizing how badly they messed this up.
I was sitting there watching the show thinking to myself, AMC can’t be this fucking stupid. Yet, they proved me wrong and every other loyal fan.
I talked this episode up as much as the cast did, and now i look like a fucking idiot. feel like one too. really goes to show how much of a fuck they actually give about their fans; who without, this show, this empire, would be nothing.
90 minute build up to absolutely nothing. For that matter, 15 episode build up to absolutely nothing. You tease and tease and tease Negan all season and then don’t even cap it off with anything that even matters. Way to ruin an opportunity to really shock the audience. Now you’re probably stupid enough to time jump ahead in the story…like you always do…because you can’t write a decent intense moment. That was cheap and LAZY. Daryl getting shot at the end of the last episode meant nothing. Tara and Heath are just mysteriously missing, so there’s no shock from Tara about Denise. Again, I fully expect you to skip ahead because you’re lazy and stupid. You said on The Talking Dead that the story begins with what happens after that character dies, but no one died. Not really, because we didn’t even see it. Lazy, stupid, cheap waste of 90 minutes.
I’m disappointed. Now the wait is going to be about one question: Who? That’s going to get old quite quickly.
Kirkman,Gimple. You are both better storytellers than this, what were you thinking?
The most amazing moment for the comic book and you blew it. Irredeemably.
Maybe if Lucille takes Daryl out…
That would have been incredible, awesome, brave.
In six months? Not so much.
Yeah there is no fixing this. the damage has been done. They all but promised we would get our moment last night, and instead they said fuck you. Even if they took Daryl out, which I would now bet my next year of paychecks WILL NOT happen, nobody cares anymore. We will find out in the middle of the summer and the season premier will be a fucking stupid tribute episode that shouldn’t have been there to begin with. I have done my best to stick by their decisions, but we are nothing but sheep to them.
dolla dolla bill y’all.
What a terrible thing to have done, I’m gutted.
So in the approximately 10 minutes we actually got to see JDM play Negan, that was supposed to pacify things? Man, this was worse than the idea to make spin off novels all about Lilly Caul and Woodbury. I didn’t give two shits about finding out anymore about the Governor, and I sure as hell didn’t care about an hour and twenty minutes waiting for Negan to show up. I say this because it was only last week when Gayle Hurd was asked on The TALKING Dead to describe this weeks episode in one word and she said after a long pause, Negan. No, I would disagree and instead use the word pitiful. I expect the proverbial shit to hit the fan soon off screen and some fire to be lit under some asses too. Maybe next season we won’t have one or two good episodes while the rest is filler. But, I doubt it. It all works out nice for the Darylites and the Glen fiends. This show has gotten to the point where it stinks so bad it’s like trying to pick up a turd by the clean end. Ain’t that right, Abraham?
I expected Negan to be a cross between Fonzie & Andrew Dice Clay. Instead we got a cheap version of some random scruffy biker wanna be. They did a better job with Dwight’s character. Total let down…
It’s like they proudly presented the very obvious of their content (“it’s time to meet the man” and all that crap) but senselessly hid the ONE thing that we were really supposed to see. it was that ONE unique emotional explosion that made Negan’s appearance right, why would you destroy it like that… not to mention that the whole episode was all a build up, FOR THIS! i can live with what i saw up to point where negan enters, it’s not the first time i see lame build-ups on TWD, that shit is ok I guess. but for this? we all knew somebody was going to die in the finale, ALL OF US KNEW, EVEN NON COMIC BOOK READERS, so, WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU DO SUCH AN ENDING? so this was bad not just as a massacre of the negan introduction scene, but also as a writing concept.
I like how the guy plays Negan, it’s actually really good, that was actually the only thing that made me happy throughout the scene. Negan’s speech was nice at some points (mostly when it implied lines from the comic books) but was shit in others. That Glenn tease, enough already? This is all you can use in the famous Negan scene? Some shitty Glenn teases (for the 214124th time this season) and a shitty cliffhanger that lasts 6 months AFTER we waited 6 months to see who dies, because we already knew somebody will? I’m kinda andgry so I must pe judging pretty harsh, but that’s definitely how you should NOT end such an episode.
It’s all about the impact that Negan has on characters AND viewers, so in this case, how dare you show less than the comic book issue? And what is your god damn reasoning? It’s like the writers are practically telling me “oh trust me, he’s a real bad guy, he knows hot to swing a bat across somebody’s face” instead of making me feel it while I see him doing it on a character that I’m attached to emotionally. DON’T MAKE ME BELIEVE IT, MAKE ME FEEL IT. Show me what he can do to ME, not to an imaginary character behind a black screen.
Ta ta.
In the line up we have Glenn,Rosita,Daryl,Michonne,Abraham,Maggie,Rick,Sasha,Aaron,Carl and Eugene. (Sorry if I mispelt any names.)
If we do the Eenie Meenie Minie Mo thing in order down the line starting from Rick, Eugene ends up being it. The writers won’t let it be that predictable and although Neegan starts of going in order down the line from Rick, his selections become more random as he goes through the rhyme. There is three main reason why it is not Eugene. 1. Too predictable as far as the rhyme goes 2. Eugene would be an easy kill, no one really cares for him and the writers are not afraid of killing off popular characters 3.When Neegan is telling them about not doing anything or else he will feed Carl’s other eye to Rick, He looks to the left down the line and to the right. There is No One on the others side of Eugene.
From the last sentence we can remove Carl and Rick from being It. That also includes Glenn, since no one is on the other side of him either. It won’t be Maggie, because that is who he first was going to pick and it would be stupid to go back to the person he started with. It won’t be Abraham because when Neegan considered him, Abraham straightened ready for the blow and he does not want a martyr. That leaves Rosita, Daryl, Michonne, Shasha and Aaron. During the episodes when they are captured, there was not really much emphasis on Rosita not Aaron. Aaron would be to easy like Eugene and he would not be the likely victims since the writers love to shock the fans. Rosita would also be kind of easy since she is all by her lonesome with Abraham dissing her, so she is the least likely out of the four. That leaves Daryl, Michonne and Sasha. If we go by Rick being the last person Neegan points at before choosing his victim, we can assume the victim was someone very close to him, which on that side of the line would be Sasha. However, if the next few seconds of that scene were cut to leave the audience thinking it was someone near him, that leave Daryl and Michonne. Both are pretty likely the victims. The actor who plays Daryl is going to be doing some motorcycle show. How does he have time to do scenes for two shows at once, especially with having to be on his knees for 15 hours to do one scene? However for me, it seems like Michonne is the one who gets to meet Lucille for three reasons. 1. There would be a major uproar if Daryl was killed off. 2. Out of the top 4 likely to be killed Michonne and Rosita, the cameras shows them being only pointed at once. Rosita would be too easy so Michonne would be the one to even the numbers since Sasha and Daryl were pointed at twice. 3. The main line from Neegan that is even now on shirts is Eenie Meenie Minie Moe. Rick was Eenie, Maggie was Meenie. Abraham was Minie. Michonne is Moe. During that scene, the camera lingered on Michonne more then the rest when she was following him with her gaze. I repeat MichOnnE is MOE.
if I remember correctly, in the comic books Negan started off by saying he won’t kill Glenn because that would be racist, but still ends up doing it after the eenie meenie thing 😀
completely devalued the most iconic death from the comics. in 6 months i’ll still be so pissed at amc that i won’t even care who it was. so much emotional build up to absolutely nothing, pathetic attempt to keep your views up. this won’t work in your favour, i’ll never trust the show again tbh.
I am so pissed right now. I can’t believe I fell for the old okey-doke twice. First, the Glenn thing, now this. One thing I hate more than anything is being manipulated. If I had a barbed wire covered bat right now, I’d smash my TWD DVDs and throw the broken pieces in the fire. I sit through 80 minutes of yakety-yak filler, more commercials than ever before (!) and the group driving around in a frickin’ RV and I now have to wait SIX MORE MONTHS to find out who died tonight??? Sorry, guys, but this is where I get off. You’re NEVER doing this rip-off crap to me again. All that crap those two smug idiots were talking on Talking Dead. Do you think we’re stupid, Kirkman/Gimple??? This was all about you guys making a lot of money off us suckers with all those commercials. This is all about you guys and not about the fans or the actors at all. If I wanted to relive the “Who shot JR?” types of cheap rip-off cliffhangers there used to be on TV thirty years ago, I’d go back in time and watch Dallas. Well, I hope it was worth it, TWD, because this is the LAST time you sucker punch me. I”m out!!! I can’t wait until Z Nation comes back on. And furthermore, I’m not watching FTWD either because I have no desire to watch six episodes of those iidiots floating around on a boat arguing back and forth with each other. When Kirkman says they’ll be getting to know the characters, that means nothing will happen but a lot of jibba jabba. Later for that!

Saddest part about this whole cliffhanger deal is that the Spoiling Dead people will have the last laugh here. Shots from next seasons filming will come out and spoil who dies within the first week of shooting for S7. I do plan to tweet, post, and share those spoilers everywhere possible out of spite because I hate Kirkman/Gimple for using such a cheap cop-out. I liked the 1st season of Fear but I won’t be tuning into S2 as a silent protest. I’m sure KirkGimple said “it’s not like it matters how pissed people get, those idiots will watch next season” I hope they’re dead wrong and it all blows up in their face. It’s a sad day when you have to wish your favorite show goes up in flames.
=(
Even sadder is when people drop a few levels out of spite to hang at the bottom of the barrel along with the scum.
Being that literally nothing I can do will piss off Kirkman or Gimple, I have to satisfy my thirst for revenge somehow. Ruining whatever bullshit they have planned for this death next season by spoiling it for as many people as possible before it airs seems like my best choice. As all those TWD commercials were saying… THE PRICE WILL BE PAID…
So you are going to take it out on them by ruining it for others? Yeah… that seems a good course of action that will gain you a lot of friends. Seriously, the only way to pay them back is to not watch. However, I suspect all of us will still be watching.
Yes, yes I am. If I can’t piss them off, next best thing is to piss off as many of their fans as possible. Starting with the ones on the official Robert Kirkman site. 😉
That’s the most immature thing I’ve ever heard. Your mommy should ground you from the internet little one.
Don’t you get it? AMC, Gimple, & crew FEED into the spoilers, otherwise, they’d shut that bullshit down! This type of spitefulness hits us DIEHARD fans the hardest, not them!
You said, “I’m sure KirkGimple said ‘it’s not like it matters how pissed people get, those idiots will watch next season’ ”
There’s your revenge… don’t comtribute to viewership.
Never mind. After I dropped this comment, I see your other comments & I know I can’t try to reason with a nutsack.
I have no plans to stop watching. Love Rick Grimes. But every action creates a reaction. Gimple & co. want to fuck around and do stupid shit to my show, I’m gonna fuck around and do stupid shit to their die-hard viewers. They don’t make a dime off me watching their show, but they do make a dime off people like you buying merch, DVDs, comics, etc. Here’s to hoping I spoil one of you into being too angry to buy. 🙂
Are you fucking stupid you fucking dingus? There is NO fucking logic on the shit you’re saying. How the fucking fuck will spoiling us die-hard fans help anything for fuck’s sake. We will not be pissed at Gimple but at you! It’s like punching someone at a bar and hope they’ll punch someone else. You’ll fucking get knocked-out! We don’t have any relation with Gimple and Co. Out of pure fucking hatred you’re fucking everybody. Calm the fuck down and think about what you’re doing. Do NOT read the spoilers. Do NOT spoil it. Instead, if you feel like protesting, don’t watch the show and fucking message AMC or something. Stop thinking like a fucking doorknob and think about what you’re doing…
This is the stupidest fucking shit I’ve ever read. Here’s a concept that works… Want to fuck with TWD for being pieces of shit but still want to watch? Torrent the episodes. Because as of this episode, I have no issue with those who obtain these episodes illegally. Torrenting lets you watch the show and not drive up demand directly. Boom.
It’s obvious from the replies I’ve gotten my plan will work to perfection. Keep the insults coming all you like, not hurting my e-feelings any. Keep an eye out for me on future posts, love you guys. 🙂
Then why should you give a shit. Unless you somehow find out what the writers for the comics are making, then this plan will go down in flames. No body would stop buying merchandise because 1 person on the internet spoiled something. It’s sorta like if you had this amazing dream but someone said there was a tiny flaw in it, you’d just give up on that dream entirely?
Tbh, your plan simply won’t work, I also see no reason to insult you, why not try venting for a bit or send a strongly worded letter. Shit, as long as you don’t go around wasting your time.
I, too, like to pretend I’m retarded on the internet, Remmy. The whole “I don’t really care and you guys are doing *eactly* what I want!!” always sells package.
last 3 episodes including 90 min finale complete filler. god this show is dogshit
Do you remember when coke tried to get cute and make the “new” coke? Well writers and whoever controls the story line on walking dead you made this mistake times 10. Be prepared to lose 70% of your fan base and the bad think is coke realized the mistake and fixed it you won’t so goodbye to my favorite show of all time thanks for getting full of yourselves and ruining it for everyone trying to get cute
the dialogue for the last 4 seasons of the show feels like its written for slightly retarded preschool kids and now after a plain filler season with TWO watchable episodes (9 and 11) even the action is skipped in a 90 min finale.
gg wp lads biggest prank yet
Alright, I’ve had a good night of sleep, breakfast and I’m calmer now. I’ve built a solid opinion and I’m going to share it with you guys. Because it’s the last episode of the season, I’m writing first what I thought of this season, so thanks if you actually read through this gigantic comment. First off, this season has been on the middle. It had it’s good and bad moments. For me, season 5 still remains in the throne. My favorite episode this season was No Way Out, especialy because it was exactly how I imagined and it closely followed the comics. I think that the downs for this season were obviously the Glenn fakeout and the no sense cliffhangers, like the episode 8 one.
Now, about this episode, I think it was goodish. If it hadn’t that ending cliffhanger, it probably would be higher on my list, but that fucked EVERYTHING. The RV part was cool I guess, I felt scared for the group, because they have a BIG threat now, but didn’t feel scared for myself. They could have made a type of jumpscare or something there. The Carol and Morgan part was really good. They are like yin and yang, they contradict each other, that was some good writing in my opinion. I just don’t like were they’re going with Carol. Nobody who killed a 10 year old girl like nothing “stops” being able to kill. Also, I hope that was the kingdom guys! The last part that fucked up BIG time. I felt scared but not NEARLY close to what I felt in the comics. Negan’s swearing wasn’t good. Not even a single fuck was said. I expected Negan to be a little more “explosive”, laughing more and cracking jokes more often. I think that JDM did a good job but it wasn’t how I imagined. The episode was cool till this point, but when they switched to the first person view they stuck their face into a pile of SHIT. For me the perfect scene would be he points to Daryl, then calmly wrecks him, while laughing and joking about it like in the comics were he says that BLANK’s eyeball is coming out and it’s nasty. Then after that he starts threatening Rick. We can now see a close bird eye view from the group crying over Daryl as the camera moves farther and we see the Saviors leaving. The “magic” of the scene was about the rawness of it. In the comics, you felt sick after seeing it. How detailed and well made it was had you feeling empty and it made you realize that Rick’s group wasn’t invincible. There was something to fear. I’m not going to lie, I will keep watching, but this was like a punch in the stomach.
Also, the worst part about all of this is that no matter how, they’ll NEVER be able to fix it. They might be able to make it emotional (unprobable as fuck) but it’ll NEVER EVER have the same impact.
fucking disgusting that they tried to say they could. “Hey no, keep trusting us. give us more money and ratings next season so we can fuck you again. because, you know, fuck you.”
One of the psychological reasons the ending felt so wrong for the viewers is because this scene already was a cliffhanger and the writers extended it further making everyone wait even longer. Comic fans and non comic fans alike knew this was coming for years, so it already had all of the hallmarks of a cliffhanger…people were talking about it, theorizing, anticipating this moment, we were ready for the emotional payoff and it never came. It’s like thinking you are going to get laid at prom and then being told you have to wait till graduation. The complete opposite of satisfaction.
Well FUCK YOU TOO, AMC. This is shit and we are all angry.
Wow. Just.. wow. Let me start by saying this was a great episode. JDM did a great job as Negan, Steven Ogg was great. Kingdom, cool.
The climax, not cool. Like i’m sure you have gotten a lot of hate, but you guys laugh on TTD. You really don’t have any idea how not fucking cool that was. I have been a fan of TWD since the show came out and I have stood by everything they’ve done from the start. I defend seasons 2 and 3 to this day. I defend and have always defended Dale’s death, Andrea’s death, Lori’s death and subsequent ghost, the Governer shooting up his own people to meet the quota of deaths we were promised for that episode, season 4 got a lot of hate, but i was there too. I defended beth and the hospital storyline, fought off all of the hate that came with the season 5 finale, defended the so called “filler” episodes. I reluctantly stuck around with the “walkers falling in a hole” shit that was clearly pulled out of someone’s ass, defended the glenn fake out, defended the MSF that gave us blue balls, and defended everything about the show. I, like droves of others, have been a loyal fan. Always supporting the show, promoting it. I think that time is over.
Gimple seemed like a gleam of hope when he came into power. Last night I found out that our prophet was false and a big fucking sell out . Sad to say Kirkman is too. I think it is a very sad day for TWD and fans everywhere. The immense build up to this moment, just to be robbed. we were all but promised that last night’s episode was going to be the episode and instead they fucked us in the ass. That was what Andrew Lincoln lost sleep over? Lauren Cohan was sick to her stomach and threw up? Nobody could show up to work? Because they had to be on their knees for 20 minutes? We have been lied to. The Walking Dead and their employees, producers, writers, actors etc do not care about you. They care about that dollar and it is a fucking shame that they went down this road. What is worse is that Gimple and Kirkman try to defend it by saying that TWD has always done cliffhangers and they will make it up etc. but this isn’t one of those moments. This isn’t a cliffhanger scene. This was supposed to be the most horribly real scene of the series and it was fucking butchered. It was our Red Wedding. and instead we got a fucking corny episode of 1960’s batman. “WILL THE SURVIVORS MAKE IT?! WHO GOT THE BAT!? CAN THEY ESCAPE AND STOP THE JOKER?” All just so they can bump up their ratings a little bit. then they think you’re stupid enough to believe otherwise. TWD has never been about bullshit build up to nothing. Negan took Glenn then and there. it was over in two pages. The Walking Dead has never been about apologies or preparing your for what is going to happen, and we witnessed them tuck their little fucking tails between their legs and pussy out. Like fuck, I never thought i would see the day the walking dead would sell out so hard that they would shamelessly say “fuck you” to their fans. They took the most iconic moment of the series and took all of the emotion out of it, all of the shock and all of the suspense. There was no pause in the moment accompanied by a tribute issue before Glenn died. They bashed his fucking brains in in a matter of moments. Yet Gimple guarantees he will make it up to us. Its ruined. The moment is ruined. The most iconic death in the series has been used as a fucking cash grab and clickbait to get viewers. We will now find out in the middle of the summer who dies and I am fairly certain they will cum in our assholes after fucking them by making it Eugene who gets the bat.
As someone who has been a loyal fan and loved the walking dead for the past 6 years, I will not be back next season. We were lied to. We were used. I call on others to do the same. We deserve a formal apology for the fucking failure that was last night. It’s not just about the death. It is a moment. They didn’t end The Empire Strikes Back when Luke runs into Vader. They didn’t end the Breaking Bad episode right before Hank was shot in the face. Lost didn’t promise us that we would find out what’s in the hatch at the end of the season. They didn’t make a fourth Lord of the Rings movie to show Gollum bite off Frodo’s finger. Glenn did not die in issue 101.
I hope the ratings tank for next season. The only things that died last night was the Walking Dead’s credibility and fan base. Fuck you, Scott Gimple, you sellout. Rot in hell with Mazarra.
forgot to mention the disaster that followed, The finale of The Talking Dead. They could not feature any fans because everyone was so fucking upset, and instead of manning up and growing a fucking pair of balls, the fucking pussy team sat awkwardly on the couch trying their hardest to act like what they did was right. The only thing they were allowed to show from fans was a bitch asking about a Daryl shower scene and some crazy girl who dressed up like michonne and asked what the fuck Judith will be when she grows up. I know hardwick saw that shit too. What a fucking embarassment, and i have never been more ashamed to have ever called myself a fan of the show.
I agree i think i might have been more upset about the talking dead then the finale ending
they just rubbed salt in everyones wounds.
All gimple had to say was I guess this means the premier will have to be amazing
Norman Reedus Peddling his motorcycle tour show for the fans after hyping the episode all week like it was the best yet
R K saying well the comic books have cliff hangars too
Chris Hardwick the politician trying to balance his fan boy and Job at AMC
Could not agree more
That’s just the raw, plain truth. And it makes me sick.
I showed the scene to my friend and he said: “Oh my god, he just killed the cameraman!” LOL
I’m all in……………..
Well…. I totally get why everyone is so pissed off. And I have to admit I was bummed when they didn’t reveal who got the Licille treatment. But in the long run I am glad they did what they did and left us hanging. Now there is something to look forward to. I have read all the comics. I know that story line, but this may be a totally different storyline.
Remember, this is a tv show. They come and go, except for the Simpson’s that is.
If you think you can spoil it for the non comic readers by revealing the goings on in the comics, it won’t work. Kirkman is a master of deception and can change scenarios.
I liked Negan’s character in the show. Yeah it sort of sucks without the f bombs but did you really think AMC would allow that? I am super glad they didn’t just beep them out but instead did so,e creative writing and delivery to get around the issue.
Who will it be? Anyone, because remember Glen “couldn’t ” fit under the dumpster either. This is a fictional show. Things don’t have to totally make logical sense. They haven’t I the past. Maybe Negan killed one of his own, maybe he killed more that one of our group.
I like riding this roller coaster every week.
Gosh what if the season premier is the Negan back story and we don’t find out who got it right away? Having to wait for gratification? Why… That would be like a zombie apocolypse!
Nice job guys, keep running the ride.
Something to look forward to? No there’s not. There’s something to give ZERO fucks about come October because all emotional investment has left in a six month time period. This may be a totally different storyline? How do you figure? Negan beats a tree stump and reveals he’s fucking crazy and hallucinates people? He still killed someone and they made it vapid and empty.
@BarbaLucy, what a fuckin’ stupid and useless comment.
like yours, Giarrar? Well there are other channels to watch. I’m sure no one will care if you watch TWD or not. Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, including you, including me.
I hate it i hate it i fucking hate it! They some how got the best moment in the comics and made it the worst scene in the tv series. I was so exited for JDM as Negan but they some how fucked it up. He was great and all but that cliffhanger ruined the perfect set up. I dont want to blame the writers but how the hell did they think that this was a great idea? I quote Negan : Motherfucking,Dick suck cunt fucking fuck fuckity fuck fucker fucking fuck fuckers!
writing assumes viewers to be retarded, check (you can/cant come back dialogues)
more than 8 of 16 episodes each season are plain filler, check (this season had 2 watchable episodes)
people involved continuously and blatantly lie, check
cheap tricks to keep viewers attention, check (glenn & daryl fake deaths, cliffhangers before breaks)
inconsistent character development, check (carol from whiner to rambo and back)
far left propaganda, check (alexandria is LGBT heaven, interracial and same sex couples everywhere)
cringe, check (every morgan/abraham/tara/rosita line)
yup if you will continue watching this garbage you are either ignorant or have zero self respect. probably both.
most blatant filler episodes of the show:
season 3 second half (lol)
season 4 sickness (yaaawn)
season 4 people following tracks (Zzzzz)
season 5 hospital
season 6 first half and last 5 episodes
most ridiculous writing in the show:
hunters enter the church (it just makes zero sense to enter a building like that lol)
saviors lose every gun fight in higher numbers
every morgan dialogue after season 1 (oh god why)
every abraham curse (facepalm)
every tara, rosita, denise, enid scene (bad writing and awful acting combined, please kill me)
What a fantastic episode!!!! Except:
1.horrible ending with future season start with “oh, hi/ she died? Oohh..hhm..next! This was our chance to cry, be mad and remember glorious episode
2. I’m sorry, Negan was not Negan. I saw George Clounie-Brad Pitt guy who likes to talk slow and enjoy in his voice and presence. Disappointed!!! Don’t think it’s actors fault. Where is Negan’s moral and political correctness? ” No one can say I’m racist!”. (Michone and Glenn) He won’t kill Rick because he is a leader so he could be blamed by his group, he can’t kill Carl cause hi is only a boy, Maggie is pretty and hot….He didn’ t show any emotion.
3. How did they find them in the woods? Stupid.
This will be remembered as the worst episode ever with no chance to please us. It was such a mistake to put cliffhanger in the end of scene. Never, ever put cliffhanger in the end of the scene.
I’m so angry right now!!!!!
(Huge dissapoint on the whole thing with No way out episode, particulary Sam and Jessie killing. Everybody were standing like cows while zombies attack little Sam and Jessy. No tension at all, just Rick’s sweet memories and not panic attack for Carl. ) soory for this.
All responsible for this, fuck you! You are fired!
Line them up!
Piece of shit cliffhanger. The Walking Dead tv series will never be as good as game of thrones or any other show like that because of stupid fucking cliff hangers that it has. The issue of the comic book where
Negan kills Glenn did not have a cliff hanger so why should the show. The fans don’t deserve this shit and from what I am hearing from the loyal comic book fans is that they are done with the show because of the failure that pissed 100% of people off.
Negan’s dark game of “eenie meenie” ends on Glenn, who he then beats to death with Lucille. It’s bloody. It’s gross. It’s visceral. And just like that, one of the most beloved characters in The Walking Dead is gone.
The only thing more frustrating then the Finale was the talking dead after show. Gimple saying that he knows the premier will have to be great to pay it off basically admitting that they were just trying to milk it for all its worth. Most of this season was cliff hangers and thats ok with me week to week occasionally or even the mid season finale to carry some momentum during mid season hiatus.
Even though i think the conclusion will be true to the comic I think it will lose a lot of the pay off not being shown in the same episode. They laid the groundwork decently and built up enough tension in that last 10 minutes where they could have literally smashed and released all that tension with lucielle for the last 2 min and created a really memorable TV moment. I think creatively Kirkman gets a pass as long as the premier stays with the comic book story. If glenn isnt killed I would question why Kirkman let one of the great creative moments in his story be adapted differently for TV where he remains in creative control.
The only way for gimple to redeem himself partially is to just open the new season right where negan left off and switch to a first person view of him just mutilating the glenns head with the Lucille.
Still don’t understand how gimple would not just execute what was given to him on a silver platter
I sure thought Carol was done for! Bad guys are ALWAYS taking their time killing off someone! Never stopped liking Morgan & proud of him that he practiced what he preached to Carol about having to kill because you care & showing that it will be done when necessary.
I really hope the writers, showrunners, and AMC aren’t happy with these reactions. Clearly, they wanted to keep us hanging, probably want us to speculate, etc. But that was the laziest writing, biggest cop out I have EVER witnessed, and I really hope they learn from this moving forward. Even the mid-season finale was a middle-finger to the viewers, but it doesn’t even come CLOSE to compare to the crap they pulled on last night’s episode.
I will say, however, that Jeffrey Dean Morgan was good. I just hope he shaves.
Anyway, what I would’ve remembered as the best season of the Walking Dead is just marred by this shitty, shitty ending.
I think that some of the people commenting on here have hit the nail on the head; I think the ONLY reason the writers left us with this cliffhanger is because the writers haven’t made a decision who they want to kill yet. This gives them time to see fans’ reactions before making good that decision. They did the same thing with the Glenn fake out earlier in the season. They were able to see fans reactions first, and the ultimately decided to let him live by crawling under the dumpster. It’s lazy writing and gimmicky, and you would think the writers would have learned this from the Glenn fake out, but instead they use more of it! Scott Gimple need to grow some balls and take more risks. Just pick a character death and then run with it. Even if it’s a fan favorite and people threaten to riot, just grow a pair and make it happen! That’s what makes the comics so great! Even Robert Kirkman has said that he has regrets with the comics, like cutting off Rick’s hand, and killing off Abraham too soon, but he had the balls to make a decision and stick to it regardless! Thats what makes the comics so much better than the show!
I like Jeffery Dean Morgan and was pretty pumped to see him but now after watching I am a little disappointed. I’m not sure if it’s the lack of profanity I’m used to reading from Negan or if he needed a little more swagger, a bit slicker, to be more animated.
Not one of the best episodes but after listening to Kirkmans take I get it. It was all about Rick losing his confidence as king of the world.
the ending was lacking would have been better to have final shot a pull back from black showing the dead cast member from above slowly elevating till the whole forest was seen from above, I think is was Eugene.
I was hoping for a “Red Wedding” type ending, instead we got served a cheap cliffhanger after a 90-minute, commercials-filled, build-up.
I don’t care who got killed… The real victim here was the audience (maybe that was the whole point).
TWDneganglennbffs
We just beat the 150 comments mark! Just to get the taste of our frustration…
JDM OWNED IT!!! Greatest character match up ever. Cliffhanger sucked, but I’m…. ok.
when Morgan was helping carol at that house, there was a sign on top of the door way that the camera focused on, that said “fiction”.
I thought it is a long time to stay on that and tried to remember that yea, it is just a story.A damn good one!
I know, the ending..it ripped me apart, no matter who died. Glen..likely.
Next season may be it for this story because Rick is a little wrecked with the constant war he has had to face. This time he’s in over his head. It will be good to see how he comes out of this one.
Good to remember. this is a fictional show. I think some people lose sight of that. The only zombies out there are us, watching this made up stuff.
BarbaLucy, comments like “it’s just a show” or “it’s fiction” kinda irk me… and I’m not going off on you because I do like you. I just have to share thoughts. For some of us, it’s more than just fiction or a show. It is a passion & it varies in intensity with us. I have a couple of buddies that can’t call a lot of the characters by name, & that’s cool… they’re still fans enjoying the show. For me personally, it is a break away from responsibilities, bills, daily grind, surrounding idiots, etc. I confess that I am obsessed; it is one of my sources of happiness, my escape. So I am very passionate about all things TWD. I have other passions as well & It is all a part of what makes me… ME. I see this kind of thing in the automotive world (one of my other passions) & definitely in the sports world. TWD is no different. What’s important is maintaining your priorities while you feed the flames of your passions. Major part of what happiness is all about for me.
All HAIL NEGAN!!!!!
Honestly, loved the episode throughout. I was so stressed and the tension was so real I felt weak by the end. I was disappointed that it ended without the death reveal that we have been waiting for, but not disappointed enough to hate the whole episode because it didn’t give me what I wanted in the final seconds.
–
We should all be used to them jerking us off right to the point of completion and then rolling over and saying, “come back next week (or in six months)!” How many times have we yelled “Kirkman, you mother fucker!!!”? He’s giving us exactly what we should all expect to be given, whether we like it or not.
–
I respect it.
–
At the same time… Kirkman you mother fucker!
lmao absolutely agree with u here 100%
Also, JDM… schaaaaawing!
Oh yes!
I was all into that episode until the last 5 minutes or so. Cliffhanger aside, no need to keep mentioning how shity that was, while I’m still excited for JDM as Negan, I don’t think they handled his into well. It was missing something. He had the evilness, but he was missing the comedic charisma that makes Negan Negan. I don’t fault JDM for that, I think his dialogue was written pretty poorly. It’s like after the Pee Pee Pants City line, the writers said, “comedy, check, we got it, that’s all it needs”. They wrote him way too one sided, too much ominous fear and not enough wit and personality. And don’t even get me started on the scarf, I get JDM isn’t as big as people were expecting Negan to be portrayed, but I think he would have been fine without the hipster scarf. Luckily I think the issues I have with Negan can be adjusted and corrected going forward, and I have hopes for him being better written in the future, (which I don’t think they have to include all the fucks to accomplish, as long as he has the correct mixture of tones and characteristics, which this intro definitely did not). That being said, there’s no fixing the broken tension of that cliff hanger. I thought the mid season finale was fucking terrible where they cut it, I honestly didn’t think they could have possible done anything worse than that, but apparently I was wrong. I’m not one of those people who are going to give up on the show because of these things, but my enthusiasm will defiantly not be what is was. Why get yourself excited for a big payoff if they’re just going to continually cut us short of the big moment. I can totally understand why people are saying this is the last straw for them though. This season had the potential and was outstanding, but that ending is going to really tarnish what should have been the best season ever. I’ve been one to defend the show’s decisions in the past to all my friends, I’ll even defend season 2, but I’m keeping my mouth shut about this one. Gimple can spin it all he wants, but a bad decision is a bad decision.
Not trying to be a dick here but if you look closely in the comics he is wearing the scarf. You just don’t notice it because it’s in black and white. If you look at the cover for the Volume 18 (What Comes After) you can clearly see the red scarf. As for his dialogue it was almost taken word for word from the comic minus the fucks. As for his wit and charisma, I honestly never noticed that in his first appearance in issue 100. Except for the “pee pee pants city” line, I didn’t really notice any other jokes. I mean after he killed Glenn he called Lucile a vampire bat so maybe that another one. I found Negan just straight up intimidating in his first appearance and not funny at all. I didn’t notice the humour until following issues and I also think its something that gained momentum with the following issues until it got to the point its currently at.
I love this comic and character as much as anybody else and I’m not upset at all with how they handled this episode (I do realize I’m in the minority here). I do agree that leaving a cliffhanger like that is a bit disappointing and would rather have had them show Negan smashing Glenn’s head into oblivion. I would’ve like to have seen the whole scene and aftermath with Negan walking away saying “Ta Ta” but I wasn’t outraged by what took place last night. I was upset that the mid season finale didn’t end with Carl getting shot in the eye but they made up for it at the start of the second half of the season. I have full confidence that this whole thing will be rectified in the first episode of season 7. Just sucks that we have to wait till October for it
If anyone is curious, these are my full thoughts on the issue and probably my final “piece” on the whole thing: http://grimlylighthearted.tumblr.com/post/142256570331/thoughts-the-walking-dead-season-6-finale
Don’t worry. It’s not ALL negative. I start off by praising everything this episode did right. Then it gets super critical and negative and stuff. But there’s a little bit of good in there. Like an Oreo but with only a tenth of the cream.
I enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you, Bassy.
By the way, if we turn the sound louder, we HEAR Glenn pronounce “Ma-Maggie!” and then Maggie scream his name.
Just like in the comic, it’s Glenn’s death, just listen & share :

So this episode doubly ruined. Lame.
And BTW, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a great actor, but no, I just saw him the hole time, not Negan.
negan was brilliant but 90 mins back and forth from one Road block to another. then a predictable cliff hanger. To be honest, this whole season has been filled with pointless storylines to pad it out. Fortunately, I have the comics to look forward to because the show is becoming predictable and weak.
I was disapointed at where they cut the mid season and season finales off. The mid season was cut three panels before sam died in the comic. Thus making a ten year old actor have to lie to everyone in his life and i bet at his school and we all knew he was dead. They then added story to make that happen later in the episode almost to justify cutting where they did. now they cut it without knowing who died. I wanted to say goodbye to a major character. I bought a special beer to pour a bit out for them. EVERYONE knew someone was going to die. personally I thought since they killed more than fifty saviors it would be a two for.
Before the episode I told my wife(who doesnt watch the show) that I either needed to know who died or would have to hear Negan say “Fuck”. neither ended up happening
The lack of the “Fucks” (which a quick count of his comic monalogue contained 34 “Fuck” words). I read an article in my local paper that networks like FX and AMC can say fuck, but they are accountable to their advertisors so they dont. They used the example of Martha Clark in the OJ series said Fuck a bunch of times. The monalogue followed the comic almost to the word(except for fucks). They did say they filmed a fuck version and I would expect that to have over 20 fucks
Usually advertisors get angry leters and boycotts because of the bad words, what if we started a campaign targeting the advertisors until they tell AMC that they must do all of the “FUCKS”, even if its just an after midnight slot. I taped the 1am and 2:30 rebroadcasts hoping they would broadcast a version with the fucks.
@AMC all will be forgiven if the season premiere jumps back about ten seconds and shows the death third person, and if I can buy a DVD/Blue Ray version with the full Fucks
Watching this episode, as time passed, my heart began to pound. I felt Rick’s distress. I became more and more panic stricken. Even though I knew all roads would be blocked and death was just around the corner I still watched, hands clenched in to fists. When the big bad made his entrance I knew it was just a matter of minutes before a beloved character was gone. My heart still pounding, my breath quickening I leaned in bracing for the pain I was about to feel…. But it never came. Yes, I jumped with every thud of the bat but there were no tears. Who would they be for? Where was the outlet for all this heartbreak?? How could a show with such a loyal fan base do this to us & then explain it away? We were robbed & in the absolute worse way. You can’t fix this.
The best cliffhanger that could have happened is if they surprised us with one more encore episode and finish what they started…
Wow I guess Im in the extreme minority because I LOVED this cliffhanger device. Never seen anything like that. Blood dripping down, the screen, very static vision on the screen, had my pulses running then stopping, Super effective. A work of art! A Masterpiece!
Only thing I’m hearing from people are painful fanboy-like whining, worse than juveniles crying about being robbed of a more “acceptable” finale – they want to know who, or some more assured sense of closing..for a horror finale? Not really following peoples anger. You’re angry, and that’s understandable. Your allowed to vent. We all love this show, that’s why the anger. I feel like they are family, I don’t want anything to happen to them. I also felt the way you did, right about the time they were trying to figure out which way to go. I could feel it coming But!!!! Its ALWAYS a cliffhanger of some sort, at the end of a season. Its one thing to be passionate about something, its another to be act worse than the FU brattiest little $hit child about not getting your way. I also love Star Wars, and I must say I have never seen this low-level of fanboyism, and THAT is coming from a someone who has seen some of the worst wars of the worst in nerd/geekdom
Many of you have said you’re done, or want watch anymore. Bye! Sorry they didn’t make it the way you wanted it.
Cliffhangers are cheap and lazy tactics to get you engaged and you’re too fucking suckered by it to realize you’re eating out of their hands. Do you really need a gimmick to watch season 7? How do you not realize they trust you that little?
Furthermore, just because it’s “always” a cliffhanger does NOT make this transparently shitty storytelling suddenly better. Have you picked up a single issue of The Walking Dead? Ever? You do know the difference between a tasteful cliffhanger and a poorly placed one, don’t you? Do you know how much raw emotion this finale was supposed to invoke in us? And I don’t mean being mad about the fact that it was SHIT. ANY AND ALL tension this death had is gone. You ever read a book and didn’t want to stop because you suddenly got to a really good part but something needed your attention but holy fuck, that part of the book is REALLY good? It sucks coming back to the book because the tension building in your emotions is gone. It’s flatlined. Picking it up where it’s left off offers nothing close to the cathartic charge it initially had. It’s become empty. Same thing here. Don’t give me that “oh it’s always like that” to excuse pure BULLSHIT. Sometimes cliffhangers are simply not appropriate and this was one of those times. This is Creative Writing 101 shit.
Lastly, that fandom “whining” is because people are passionate. People cared about this. People were hyped for this the entire season. We are the reason The Walking Dead writers have a job. We are the reason The Walking Dead crew are currently successful. We absolutely did not deserve this and it’s not bratty to say so. Scott Gimple just took a big shit in the collective fans’ mouths. You trying to make yourself sound better by strawmanning your opponents into nothing but juveniles and “fanboys” won’t work. This was not justifiable. You’re damn right people are going to vent because there is a big reason to vent.
By the way… about your little “horror finale” comment… Having someone beaten to death in gory detail isn’t “assuring.” You know what makes horror work, right? Here’s a hint: It isn’t fucking “mystery.” This wasn’t a “horror” finale. Could have been. But this was a joke finale.
Wait a minute…how did you know I am trying to make myself sound better? Ugh.. Jeez kid really? Cause that was my point.
So you can vent, but I can’t vent about how ridiculous some of the “fans” vents appear? OK. I guess I OWE you an apology, and the show OWES you a better season finale. Apologize for criticizing you lot. I should realize the younger set is extremely thin-skinned, and not only can’t take an honest, obvious criticism, but is also ENTITLED to an apology. Hold on….damn, I’m sorry, I’m fresh out of pink ribbons. I seem to keep running out.
BTW thanks for the creative writing 101 tip. Whats your next class? Wait, wait, wait, um sorry…. its been a while..um… oh yeah, uh…. whats your major?
The show absolutely owes me and every disappointed fan a better season finale. The numbers are far too overwhelming for them to ignore this time.
And you’re strawmanning again with the “kid” shit. I’m no dumbass, I use that word a lot in petty internet arguments too. It’s such a powerful word to immediately discredit your opponent. I’m no fool to the trick.
And you know there’s a certain irony to saying the “younger set” can’t take an “honest obvious criticism” when this is exactly what the storm against The Walking Dead finale is about. No more bullshit. An honest and harsh criticism that is well fucking deserved. And you say “you lot.” If that was meant to be associated with the “young” remark, I gotta tell you I know for a fact a lot of the regulars here aren’t fresh summer children.
Hey NetruelGray disregard this, Im being a total dick here. I mean no offense. Im a longtimefan but am new to posting here, and I know better than to come in guns blazing like this in a new forum. So please, my extreme bad, and you are right, there is no right way to vent, venting is venting it can be one word, an entire blog, or a frikin virus. I admire your passion, and yes its exactly my understanding. Passion is everything these days. And THAT is what I love. So feel free to destroy my post with nastily, deservedly targeted replies, I humbly withdraw. Were all here for the same reason right?
Like I’m not being a dick right back? It’s whatever. I’ll tell you exactly how I think it is and why I think you’re dead wrong. But I know what you mean. Don’t apologize for defending what you think was good even if I’m not on board.
Yes, passion is why we’re here. We all love this show/this comic/this game series. But that passion is also why there’s such a vehement reaction to the finale, my man/girl(?).
I respect your right to a contrary opinion but you gotta at least understand that to have a whole season to be hyped for this one moment only to be blue balled… Well, People are understandably angry. There is no easy way to swallow his. A lot of people were betting that THIS would be the moment AMC would dare not split with a cliffhanger. And they did anyway. A lot of people are very passionate about this show and these comics. You also have to understand that TWD has never been a stranger to problems either. Bloated story arcs, awkward dialogue, poorly shot moments, improbable scenarios, bad CGI, etc. And despite all that, we come back. We’re fans despite the myriad of problems this show has. But I think I’m not alone when I say that it was this cliffhanger in particular that will end interest in the show for a lot of people.
Oh, and if you’re new… Go to Gravatar. From there you can change what your avatar is here. Assuming you want something other than the default.
Thanks friendo. I definitely get it. Blue balled lol Yeah I see your point.
What I find fascinating about this is that this season Nicotero is putting the viewer through exactly the same thing our beloved characters are going through. A grueling, hopeless exercise which began with a 200,000 walkers and ended with a labyrinth of death. That not one day is going to be free of the worst case scenario. And thats why I like the cliffhanger, because we are very much on our knees here.
I like you kid. You got guts. Thanks for the gravatar bit, now get of here! =)
I think you are confusing fanboyism with constructive criticism Ninja. Fanboys are those who are so blinded by love for their (insert whatever here) that they can’t even criticize it even when they know it is wrong, or when they fail to see it is wrong. Pot… kettle?
Perhaps
-Peter Griffin
appreciate your take Mr Matthews. Drinking right out of the kettle right now=)
All I can say it was like finally hooking up with a girl you’ve wanted to be with for years. Everything is going like a fantasy, you’re about to climax…. and she’s done. Not interested. You can finish yourself off and leave…
I am a die hard fan. To me this was the defining moment and they ruined it for me. Even if they start the next season with a good on screen head bashing it’s too late. We needed the 6 months to mourn the loss of the character. Not another 6 months of who shot JR. I have spent sooo much time defending TWD to my friends. I can’t this time.
I’d love to say that’s it. No more TWD but we know that won’t happen. For the first time you guys (Kirkman & Crew) let me down.
When it comes down to it, Negan escaped in the graphic novel. All is in balance. It’s almost as if Kirkman was anticipating backlash from this cliffhanger.
Na. I can’t weigh the show against the comic in this way. Deed’s done. No redemption.
Even though I don’t think they can make up for the Shithanger. The comic is rocking!
The more I think about it, the more this feels like a terrible decision by some clueless producers at AMC. They probably saw all the buzz the Glenn fake out death caused and wanted to recreate that, but to really ramp it up. Only they totally missed the entire point of the scene. It’s not supposed to be about guessing who died, that’s solely focusing on one aspect, the person who died, when we should be saying, Holy Fuck, this is how the next villain gets introduced, where do we go from here, how do we deal with that. He’s going to be back in a week, what happens then? How do they go bigger from here? But instead we the stupid #whoisit hashtag. anyone at AMC that thinks they’re going to keep this a secret till October obviously has never been on the internet. The excuse that the next story picks up with who it was is backpedaling bullshit. Ending season 6 with a major character deal IS how you show that Rick is powerless and hope is seemingly all lost. They had the perfect ending served up to them by Kirkman on a silver platter. Bash in the head, show who it was, the saviors walk away and Negan says Ta-Ta, see you next week. Boom, god damn amazing ending that has you hooked and wanting to see how they can possibly combat this incredible new foe that just introduced himself in the most brutal way possible. It’s a satisfying concluding to season long hype of Negan, but it’s also a cliffhanger. What we got was not a cliffhanger, they just paused the story mid action in the most unsatisfying way possible. I’ll probably keep watching the show, but I’m not going to be nearly as invested in it as I have been these past 4 years. It’s been the only show that I pay for episode by episode and have had no issue in doing so, but I think I’m going back to torrenting till they prove they’re worthy of my money again.
I don’t know what’s more sad. How they ended it, or the fact that I (and most I would suspect) knew they would pull something like this.
As far as keeping secrets until October… that should be easy. Honestly, I partly believe they have not chosen who has died yet. Perhaps that’s even why they didn’t show it. Who knows. I’m surprised they aren’t jumping the shark and bringing us a “Choose who dies” contest.
Maybe we will see a butterfingers tie in with a “Who did Negan Kill” contest. Except when the Simpsons did it, it was kind of cool, despite the somewhat lame Maggie did it ending.
At this point, I am not as excited about the next season starting as I would have been. Your ending would have made me. Not this one.
Gimple… Kirkman… I know you guys lurk here. For some reason I highly doubt this was your decision. I imagine this was an AMC front office call. It was wrong though. The focus going into summer should be about how badass and cruel Negan is. Not… well, he killed someone. Wish I knew who it was but I really don’t care at this point because this cliffhanger NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED.
They start filming next month, I believe. When the leaks drop, that’s it.

The fact that the scene leaked and there were rumors of it being a cliffhanger in November, and most of the comments about that leak were about how stupid it would be if they actually did it. That makes it soooo much more infuriating and disappointing that they actually went through with it. They knew it was out there, they knew people were expecting it, and they had to know it was seen a stupid idea, yet they went ahead with it anyways. This series has never been about the shock value, it has shock value, but the story and good storytelling always seemed to come first. This was clearly a departure from favoring good storytelling for favoring shock value. And unfortunately that’s not why most of us are here.
maybe “cheap tricks” would be the better way put it rather than “shock value”
The thing that makes me sad is I saw so much hope from the community to combat the torrent of doubt and mistrust because people just *knew* this moment had to play out. They *knew* Gimple, Kirkman, AMC, or whoever had the final call had to understand how important this scene was. I saw so many solid reasons for why they just *had* to play this scene straight, ranging from artistic integrity to business strategy to just plain common sense. People knew with AMC’s track record and how this show is, it was possible for it to end empty. But people dared to hope they wouldn’t. And that hope was met with a crushing letdown.
I couldn’t believe it when I hit up on the spoiler. I just knew this was another BS spoiler, since I came across another one that was. So when it went down, it was like a new, deep gash in a recent wound. I read somewhere (YAY, it’s safe for now!) that Gimple wishes he had more trust from us… I’m still trying to wrap my mind around that! He just blew that to smithereens.
My feels:
.
BWAHAHA!!!
The man himself, Cudlitz, retweeted this. I imagine there’s probably a clause in these guys’ contracts that forbids any negative criticism of the product… but based off what little he did say, I don’t think he’s too happy with it being this way either.
Lol! Maybe trying to lighten things up a little. I also thought of “dingleberries” but tucked that one back into my Naughty File.
Well, fuck. This is the biggest dick punch the writers have crafted thus far.
*Deep breath* First, the good. I love what they’re doing with Morgan, and honestly, watching him gun down the savior to save Carol was the most emotional and rewarding scene in the episode for me. He fought like hell to get his humanity back, and has finally had to come back down to earth and accept that if “all life is precious”, then he’s going to have to kill to defend the precious ones from time to time. It was crushing.
The road trip was a good way to build up the hype, but it could have easily cut out a stop or two along the way. Putting Michonne’s dreads on the walker was a really nice touch. All in all, it was solid and suspenseful.
Savior-Trevor was great, and I almost hope they give him Dwight’s storyline now, because he’s a much better actor and more intimidating. A fitting right-hand-man to Negan.
And that brings us to the main event: Negan! Holy shit, this was by far the best part of the episode. His monologue (while completely devoid of his characteristic cursing) was strong enough, and JDM’s performance has be VERY excited about the next season… well, at least it did…
Which brings us to the bad. Carl locks Enid in a closet; pointless. Carol is being weak and insecure and who knows what else. I think this was a terrible decision from the get-go, and seems to have only served the purpose of introducing us to the Kingdom. Kinda not important enough for a character assasination, in my opinion. Whatever, it’s expected from these writers, and I’m not that upset about these moves.
That said, they did the one thing I worried about most: Butchered the single most iconic, impactful and emotional moment from the entire 150+ issue run of the comics. We all knew what was coming, and everyone from the producers to the directors, even the fucking cast were in on an elaborate ruse to mislead the audience. They spoke about how hard it was to watch, and how it’s going to be so different from the comics, etc. etc. Come to find out, what they really meant was “We don’t want to tell you that you’re going to hate us in a couple weeks”, and who can blame them? The kettle was screaming, and the top was ready to blow off, and then… cut to black. I don’t know if they expect the audience to just hold on to that tension for 6 months, but it’s not going to happen. I love this series, as well as the comics, with a passion. Right now, I couldn’t care less who got the bat, or how that’s going to impact the groups future, or where we’re going from here. All I can think about is how badly the producers have screwed me out of the payoff for this season.
In closing, I only have a Negan quote I’d like to direct at the staff at TWD:
“Mother-fucking dick suck cunt fucking fuck fuckity fuck fucker fucking fuck fuckers!”
I hated it. Really. It’s like watching people follow Hitler. This is just one man. Why would anyone follow him. They wouldn’t. Any of his followers could turn and blow his head off at any moment and someone would. Shitty, shitty disappointing let down of a finale. I don’t care who died anymore. I’m not excited for season 7 and I’ve never missed an episode. You just keep killing off the characters I watch it because of anyway. Instead of two thumbs up can you guess which fingers I’m holding up. Hasta TWD. Your writers just wrote your death warrant.
My thoughts exactly Gimple and Kirkman.
Funny observation. I was watching an old episode of Law and Order SVU and they used a barbed wire covered whiffle bat on someone! Was this the prototype for Lucille?
Never read any of the comics, but I know by now that this is the moment Glenn actually dies. My theory about that, is that it would be far too obvious for the show to do that. They aren’t shy when it comes to changing things from book to screen. For those of you who read the comics, an example of that might be the fact that Abraham is still alive even though he was the one who was killed by Dwight instead of Denise on the train tracks (Sometimes I don’t mind spoilers cause I’m too impatient and want to know what happened).
With that said, I am leaning towards either Abraham or Eugene being killed off. Abraham might be a ‘wild-card’ by now since his comic death has already passed. He also finally found his place in the world and wants to settle down with Sasha, so it would be kind of heart-wrenching to see that ripped away from her (yet again after Bob). As for Eugene, he is a beloved character and he did somehow have a ‘final goodbye’ speech with Rick just before he got captured. But who knows, maybe I’m wrong..
I just want the new season to start already!! It’s always annoying when we have to wait this long especially after such a cliffhanger.
