The Walking Dead Companion Series Gets A Pilot!

AMC has officially ordered a pilot set in the same universe as The Walking Dead!

Although we still don’t have a title for the highly-anticipated new show, the project will go into production later this year, and will be set in a different location than the original series and star a new cast of characters.

The Walking Dead executive producers Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert are all on board for the new project. Dave Erickson (Sons of Anarchy) was recruited as the showrunner back in March.

“Almost from the beginning of The Walking Dead on AMC, fans have been curious about what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world,” said AMC President Charlie Collier. “In fact, beyond requests for zombie cameos, it’s the question I get asked the most. Obviously, we all take our stewardship of the original franchise incredibly seriously and we, along with Robert, Gale, David and now Dave, are all proceeding with extreme care in order to ensure that we are offering fans something truly compelling, engaging and distinct. We’re thrilled to be taking this next step with these remarkable partners.”

Are you as excited for the new series as we are? Where do you think it will be located? Do you think it’s going to start right at the beginning of the apocalypse, or later?

Yes, I second Detroit. Especially with AMC’s tight budgets, Detroit doesn’t need much work to look apocalyptic. Plus they could really use the tourism income this could generate.

the companion show should be in the middle of the apocalypse, and instead of a awesome sheriff all about keeping human, they should have a badass recruiting all the people that were trouble, prisoners, gang members ect, and show those people becoming their true selves ,or gang members redeeming themselves to become better humans

Look into the Telltale Walking Dead games, many people would love to see a character from that series. There is a lot of room for those characters to get more story from before they are introduced to the game. There are also really fascinating places like Crawford in Savannah Georgia (maybe too close), which an interesting set of laws on how to deal with the zombie virus.
Also, from the game, I wonder what it’s like for people who had boats? What troubles do they face?

Let’s not. We’ve had enough trouble between “show vs. comic” arguments. The only thing touching stuff like that would ignite is “show vs. game.” Let’s let this be an original. Or at least, let’s hope it’s an original.

You’re right about the mystery. A good part of the show (and the comic) is not knowing if they’re alone in the world. Might be interesting to have another story, though. I hope it will be as addictive as TWD.

I would like to see a scientific point of view how freaked out the scientist would be. But not a whole series about it touching on other points of view would be good. Like a military point of view maybe seeing someone who has been locked up and really don’ t know whats going on and freaked all out. Our a town that would be like ground zero where it first starts I got faith it in.

i dont know how i feel about this… mostly because the original show is so good and can really go far or at least to the end of the comic series anyway… but really i guess it would depend on how they did it and really what is was based on, if it were to be based upon a group like Magna’s and how there group has been surviving, that would make a pretty cool show
