The Walking Dead’s cast and creators returned to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences this Thursday 2/6 for a panel that promises a dark run of episodes when Season 4 return this Sunday.
In attendance was Robert Kirkman, Greg Nicotero, Gale Anne Hurd, Scott Gimple and Dave Alpert, along with stars Norman Reedus, Danai Gurira, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Melissa McBride and Scott Wilson. Unfortunately, Andrew Lincoln was scheduled to be there, but missed the evening event due to a cold. However, Scott Gimple reading his text in a terrible-yet-amazing British accent made up for the no show. “I am so sorry I’m not to be able to attend this event, but I am currently the walking dead tonight,” Lincoln wrote.
The night followed a unique show-and-tell format, with the assembled cast revealing and discussing their favorite clips from the first half of the cycle. Most of the actors chose pivotal emotional scenes to discuss, although there was a bit of levity when Norman Reedus revealed his favorite scene. You probably guessed it: the tank.
Though the cast and crew weren’t able to revel too much about the return of Season 4, Executive Producer and FX-guru Nicotero did have this to say. “This is the first time since Season 1 where they don’t have any protection. You get a sweeping sense of the world again, and our characters are thrust back in it.”
After the discussion, the audience was invited to ask questions. One audience member asked if the cast had ever had any nightmares about The Walking Dead, to which Norman Reedus described an elaborate set dream where he begged the director to allow him to beat up zombies in the style of various characters from Hollywood history (ex. Hannibal Lecter’s back-handed slap).
Another audience member asked what each cast member felt their character would grab first from a freshly stocked super market.
“Spam,” Steven Yuen joked. “It’s underrated.”
