Scott M. Gimple, beloved executive producer and showrunner of The Walking Dead, recently spoke about the future of the show and how “the butterfly effect” has impacted The Walking Dead universe!
Comic fans will be excited to hear that Gimple says the show will continue to pay respect to its source material. Gimple said, “I certainly won’t abandon iconic things from the comic. I definitely want to stick to the comic as much as possible but that’s also impossible with Daryl Dixon and characters that are alive but dead in the comic. There’s a butterfly effect. But that’s actually an incredibly fun part of the [show]. I would say that even the inventions we have on the show are inspired by the comic.”
He even commented upon the spin-off show that was announced last year, “I have little to do with the spinoff… This I do know. It’s set in the world of The Walking Dead but from what I understand, it’s not like Daryl’s cousin or anything… I would never say never [to a crossover between the shows]…”
A crossover could be interesting, and as we know from the comic, our heroes are not alone. Either way, Season 5 sounds like it’s going to be awesome!

Personally am really excited for the spin off / companion series, you only have to look at the quality of the webisodes (such as cold storage) (which was so good btw) to see what the possibilities are for a walking dead show not tied to the comic. It could be amazing!
What if the spin-off is with Magna and her group, or The Saviors?
super far fetched….but that would be amazzzzzzzzing
I get so disappointed every time the spin off is mentioned… I’m hoping that they just completely forget to do it. Why dilute the main story line? What can they possibly explore further in this universe that Rick and his group can’t? Stupid idea… AMC should think of original ideas instead of milking two of their biggest shows for more.
1^ x 10!
Agreed. They’re going to kill the golden goose.
Totally. I also think that “Breaking Bad” doesn’t need to be touched. Especially this soon. Can’t we just relish in the fact that a great series has ended without having to shove spin-offs in our face!? I feel like the spin-off from “The Walking Dead” will distract viewers, and split some of them, from the main series. The webisodes were great bonus videos, but we certainly don’t need an entire series of that. The thing I love about the comics is how the narrative never strays from Rick’s group. We don’t find out what’s going on in other parts of the world until Rick gets there, and we see it first hand. I don’t want to all of a sudden cut to Paris, or Alaska, or China, or some other location with other characters. One can assume that the world is all suffering the same, but the great question of what’s beyond our immediate vision is almost as enticing as the actual story itself. Somewhere out there, there might be an ultimate safe-zone, or a community even stronger than what Rick has built… but I don’t want to know any of that beforehand!
I hope the spin-off will focus on Lee Everett. That would be awesome!
If you have read any of the novels (rise of the governor or road to Woodbury) you would know that there is a total spin off world of TWD. Both back stories of the characters we know (rise of governor’s Philip) and new characters never introduced on show are awesome.
