The Walking Dead: Descent Novels Announced

After collaborating on the Rise of the Governor novels, Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga are teaming up once more for another The Walking Dead book series. The series will be four books long, the first of which is titled Descent and will be released by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press on October 14th 2014.

The new novel will feature Lilly Caul as she returns to Woodbury and attempts to rebuild it after the Governor’s failed prison assault. An uphill battle, to be sure.

Robert Kirkman is excited to be expanding the Walking Dead universe even more. He said of the upcoming book, “I’m thrilled to be working with Jay Bonansinga on more novels. There is quite a bit of unexplored territory left in the Walking Dead universe and I think people are going to love what Jay brings to this world in this medium.”

Does this mean Lily is the person on the cover of issue 127, and this novel is basically going to be the back story of what happened to her. This would be similar Rise of the Governor.

Very excited about more books. You know you have a problem when you’re reading a novel, the comic books, watching the TV show, and playing the Telltale game all at the same time.

I’m thinking of starting a Deadaholics Anonymous group. I’m the founding member for a reason. Care to join?

Hi, my name is Bastet & I am a Deadaholic. It’s been 2 and a half weeks since I watched the last episode & 4 days since I read the latest comic. I don’t remember when I stopped with the novel because it was just prior to the season 4 finale and my withdrawal symptoms were already starting to kick in. Today, I’m finding it hard to cope, but I keep on hanging in there because I know I have this site to fall back on. If I can just make it for one more week until I get the next comic!

        LOL!

Hi my name is Cassi and I’m a Deadaholic. It’s been 2 1/2 weeks since I watched an episode, 1 week since I read issue 125 and 2 days since I completed episode 2 of Season 2’s Telltale game. I think about TWD all the time and find myself studying the cover of issue 127 and 128 trying to see if that’s Maggie and Glenn’s daughter, a Negan wife, or Lily. I’m taking it one day at a time but I’m not sure if I’ll survive until I get my next hit a week from today when issue 126 is released. And not knowing WHEN I’ll get my next hit from the game is just infuriating!
LOL I laugh but seriously, I’m supposed to be working right now and instead I’m reading whatever I can find on TWD.

          • Bastet April 16, 2014 at 12:23 pm

I thought I could pick back up on doing the house chores…until my Telltale arrived. I’m going through it too quickly. My son is left sitting and staring since I took over the PS3. My family gives me dirty looks over the pile of dishes and laundry. The cat is mad as hell because I’d rather be browsing on this site than scooping the litter box. I was thinking that when the comic releases go back to monthly, I’ll just commit myself. I hope they let me have a DVD player.

            LOL!

          • Cassi April 23, 2014 at 1:15 pm

Are you on Season 1 or 2 of Telltale? Man that game is so awesome. Honestly I think the storyline is my favorite of the 3 in TWD franchise (comic, TV, game). I heart Lee & Clementine. Season 2 is off to an amazing start as well.

          • Bastet April 23, 2014 at 1:28 pm

I’m on Season 1. I jumped in late, but after playing it about 3 times, I’m on ep 4. Will be getting Season 2 once it comes out on disk. I love it…hard to pull away from it!

          • Cassi April 23, 2014 at 2:01 pm

Ugh! Season 1 is AMAZING! I played all of Season 1 and 400 days on my Kindle then when I found out Season 2 wouldn’t be released on Kindle until probably early next year I bought it again for my iPhone and played it all over again so I could play Season 2 NOW. I know – shameful lol. I’ve even thought about buying a PS or XBox to have better graphics. You will not be able to take it at the end of episode 5 and will figure out how to get Season 2 another way. You HAVE to know what happens next LOL.

          • Bastet April 24, 2014 at 4:09 am

Yeah, you’re probably right. That’s what happened to me with the comics, lol!

          • Stuart Ormston April 11, 2014 at 12:47 pm

ah man, I only just started the first one, well am 10 and a bit chapters in, lol

          • Bastet April 11, 2014 at 12:51 pm

You’ll have something to look forward to for a good long while…speaking of which, got that comic yet?

          • Stuart Ormston April 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm

yeah am going to be reading the books for a long time, will prob take me to season 6 to catch up :), yeah my #125 came today, not read yet going to get my daughter to bed and then chill and read it, managed to avoid spoilers, has yours come yet? got the game too, got it on my android TAB which was just released today, as soon as i saw it , i had to wait 7 hours to get home from work to download, it is freaking awesome!!!

          • Bastet April 11, 2014 at 1:11 pm

I have been eyeballing my eBay purchase since Wednesday & have yet to see a tracking #! I emailed the seller this morning…no reply. I paid for 125 – 127 all up front, but if I don’t come home to a package in my box today, I’ll wait for 126 to make my AOW complete, cancel 127, & go digital. This has NOT been a good week for me!!

          • Stuart Ormston April 11, 2014 at 1:21 pm

I used to order from a shop in the UK called forbidden planet, but their subscription service was terrible, basically no matter what day your comic came out ( i.e #125 on the 9th) they wouldn’t ship it until the end of the month! I switched to a different store (disposable heroes) and they ship straight away, and only takes a couple of days, so much better, I’m going to stick with the comics, not a big fan of digital books or comics but i can see why some people like them, and i can see the advantages, but its not for me . . .yet 🙂

          • Bastet April 11, 2014 at 1:36 pm

I ordered from this seller before…got #122, a replacement because I spilled coffee on my 1st one. I received it 2 days after I paid for it. Now I can’t understand why I paid for this one April 3rd & still waiting! Digital is a last resort & I don’t like it…wouldn’t do it if I didn’t also buy the hardcovers. Oh, I haven’t made up my mind yet!

          • Stuart Ormston April 12, 2014 at 2:39 pm

Hey bastet, has your 125 turned up yet?

          • Bastet April 12, 2014 at 2:56 pm

Nope. No reply to an email I sent early yesterday morning, either. I’m still thinking about exactly how I want to handle it. I’m really sore about it, tho, because it stated that the ship date was Wednesday. Still no tracking #. I may pay a little more money & go back to Amazon.

          • Stuart Ormston April 12, 2014 at 3:00 pm

I think you might be right about going digital, it may be the best option for you , as your not having much luck. Have you been playing the telltale game, I statred playing yesterday, it is so good, can beleive it took me this long to pick it up.

          • Bastet April 12, 2014 at 4:04 pm

I played for quite some time today. I never knew a game could have me wrapped up emotionally! I’ll be picking up Season 2 as soon as it comes out on disc. What ep are you on?

          • Stuart Ormston April 13, 2014 at 12:44 am

I know what you mean. It is very emotional. You really get sucked it to the story. I find my self replaying the choice a made in my mind thinking “did a do the right thing” just finished the first episode of season one. Am playing on my tablet so downloading as I go. That first emcounter after the crash. I could genuinely say it had my heart racing. Lol

          • Bastet April 13, 2014 at 5:29 am

I’ve thought about whether or not I’ve made the right choice through almost all of what I’ve played so far. Knowing me, while I wait on Season 2 to come out on disc, I’ll go through it again, making different choices. There are 2 more save slots, after all, lol!

Wait until you get to episode 3!

          • Jason Thomas April 13, 2014 at 4:37 pm

That game is addictive isn’t it ?

          • Bastet April 13, 2014 at 4:50 pm

Funny you should say that. I sit down & play one ep through without taking a break like it’s nothing. In fact, I just finished up ep 4.

          • Bastet April 14, 2014 at 3:52 am

I had a lot of time on my hands while I waited for my comic to be delivered, lol!

          • Jason Thomas April 13, 2014 at 4:38 pm

What are you playing it on ?

          • Stuart Ormston April 14, 2014 at 1:25 am

I was looking for it on my xbox 360 but when I read the prevouse post that it was out on andriod I diwnloaded it straight away for mmy galaxy tab.

  10. Razorback April 11, 2014 at 8:32 pm - Reply

So much focus on Lily Caul in terms of the novels. It’s making me think that the woman on the cover of issue 127 isnt her. Why switch the comics focus to Lily, when the novels are already doing a fantastic job with her story? It would be a waste….so I think the woman on the cover of 127 is someone new…or someone who’s barely had any focus.

    • Bastet April 12, 2014 at 6:22 am - Reply

For me, it’s wishful thinking about that being Lilly. I have gone back & looked at the frames of Lilly in the comic & I have to admit that there are some differences in the drawings, so the possibility of this being someone new is just as big. But the novels, as much as I love them, do take a back seat to the comic. I’d love to see Lilly show up!

thats crazy right after i ask you about the books, another is announced. haha by the way you motivated me to go ahead and order the first one. i did read a page or two on amazon and its only a little confusing. almost like somebodys telling the story around a campfire (if that makes any sense)

anyway i think Lillys cool and all but i was reallllly hoping for a new back story. i thought it would be cool to do one about the saviors. maybe from the point of view of dwight. ohh well. like i said lillys cool

Can’t wait! Lily left off with the benevolent leader thing taking in a ragged refugee family and as a true fan of all things Walking Dead, I can only think that they will be trouble.

i just hope he wont repeat the exact same lines over n over like in the last ones he swapped austin for lily so many times describing tendrils of hair,,,and enough with tendrils already…..he created a great comic great tv series but as a writer of novels….no story is good yes but his ability to write the book sucks

Hurray! I love the first series of novels. I really like Lilly as a character too. Can’t wait to pick up the new book!

really excited for this i always wondered what happen to Lilly and Woodbury after it went to hell and them being left behind at the prison… Robert and Jay should also do a book series on the Dixon brothers and expand on how they came into this universe and met up with Rick and company… there have been some things revealed on the show but it would be really cool to get a series on Daryl and Merle
