The Walking Dead #152 Discussion

THE WALKING DEAD issue number 152 is out and hopefully you’ve bought it, read it, committed it to memory, told your friends about it, read it again, wrote a poem about it, asked it to prom, and are now looking at cute little studios together. That almost certainly being the case, let us know what you thought down below! We’ll be awarding our favorite comment with a Kirkman-signed copy this very issue! Come strong with those comments! Johnny and I will be picking our favorite next week for the prize!

PREVIOUSLY: Rick and Dwight began training Alexandria’s new military, and take on a new recruit: Father Gabriel. Rick persuades Michonne to become the new leader of the Kingdom. And Eugene’s radio experiment pays off as a mysterious voice reads him loud and clear…

    Ho.Ly. SHIT!

Negan is out! OMG, OMG, OMG!

My heart is beating rapid fire.

But now I’m calming down. Negan is smart. Maybe he still wants to win Rick’s favor. Obviously he is scared of the Whisperers as well. He likely knows that the whisperers will kill everyone including him. Maybe he doesn’t care.

And then that cover of Rick wiping up blood. We’re going to lose someone. And its going to hurt.

I’m really praying its not Andrea. Please… anyone but Andrea. Anyone else.

    PHENOMINAL issue.

I can’t believe it!! Negan is free again and stronger than ever, meanwhile Rick is weakening and getting beat up by just about everyone. I can’t wait to see where Kirkman goes with this story arc! With Negan being free who knows what’s going to happen. My jaw dropped when Brandon introduced himself and said he’s getting him out of there! Great issue. So pumped for next months!!

Holy shit! Negan the new leader of Alexandria?? People are gunna start dying soon!

  4. Undersolo March 2, 2016 at 7:30 am - Reply

    Well, damn. I was right.
I knew that our favourite psycho would get out because someone not too bright had issues with Rick. What strikes me as interesting is that Brandon or anyone who questions Rick’s authority waited this long to let him out.
I guess that he is still somewhere inside the community, but will soon learn all about the Whisperers and then challenge Rick on the methods used to deal with them. It may not be as bloody as I imagined, but the drama is still there.
Negan, we love you because we hate ya!

Michonne should’ve let Rick go full Red-Machete Rick and take out that kid. He had a history of violence that Rick knew about, it was only a matter of time before he went and did something stupid. Like father, like son. With that said, let the f***ity f*** games begin now that Negan is out!

Also, I think the person on the other end of Eugene’s radio is Adele just wanting to say hello from the other side.

  6. 5dz Afi March 2, 2016 at 7:48 am - Reply

I think Negan is not stupid. If you remember in All Out War, he actually agreed with Rick about rebuilding the world. He is not going to go full psycho because in a sense he never really was. Rick and his group has rebuild the world or least Washington so knowing Negan. He may have a minor strict hand but will ultimately let things go the way they are

  7. Nogle March 2, 2016 at 8:14 am - Reply

It’s almost like Rick didn’t watch the mid season premiere. Like porch dick father like porch dick son. This time it was with trailer park people

  8. Nogle March 2, 2016 at 8:16 am - Reply

Nice job Kirkman, make us totally forget about the radio by the middle of the issue

  9. CORAL March 2, 2016 at 8:25 am - Reply

Fucking Kirkman, you dirty amazing and awesome liar!

I think that Negan ia going to use this as an oppurtunity to try and gain Rick’s trust. I feel like the easy story progression is to have him destroy or cause mayhem. But he could take Brandon and turn him over to Rick as an olive branch and try to build the trust that he talks about in 141. That would put Rick in an even more difficult position to make the decision on how to handle Negan afterwards as opposed to having to just kill him finally. This could potentially be why the cover for 153 is “Heavy Hangs the Head” because Rick now needs to choose how to move forward in regards to that situation. This also ties in to the theme of Rick forgiving people because of the need for cooperation. I also remembered recently that Dwight is the one who killed Abraham and noone seems hold a grudge against him for it. Maybe I am naive to think that Negan could potentially become a trusted friend in the future. Much like many of the villans in Dragonball Z that once were hated but later become selfless Heroes themselves.

Also someone needs to get in contact with google play and inform them that the issue came out today not March 11th.

  12. Neutral-Grey March 2, 2016 at 8:58 am - Reply

Highlight for me was Rick beating on that kid. Holy shit, he may seem soft because he’s leader but he still has a brutal edge to him. Hearing him defend his son like that. Just wow. He was not fucking around.

And Negan! About time you glorious bastard!

  13. ChrisTWD March 2, 2016 at 9:02 am - Reply

Haha! Free at last, free at last, thank God all mighty Negan is fucking free at last!

Fucking itunes man, they keep releasing it the night before and this time I couldn’t avoid the spoiler. Good thing it was a very good issue because I still really enjoyed it… but fuck you itunes lol

  15. Neganism March 2, 2016 at 9:15 am - Reply

I have a feeling Negan is gonna kill Brandon and hand the keys to rick as a sign of faith and trust.

  16. crazyscissors March 2, 2016 at 9:33 am - Reply

This issue is not slated for release until march 11 on Google play. I spoke with support @ Google and they said that they don’t have control over that it is the date the publisher has listed the issue for release. They are a leading to put in a request to them for verification but for now us Google play readers are sitting bitch for a week…

    Hello, Eugene. It’s me.
I was wondering if after all this time you think Negan should be free?
To go over the Whisperers plan with Dwight? While Rick gets beat up. Shoulda kept the red machete.
Hello? Can you hear me? I’m on the other side of D.C. where walkers still roam free.

  18. mk797 March 2, 2016 at 10:22 am - Reply

I think that Negan is out, but he for some reason recently really wants Rick on his side. He is purposely going to turn in the little idiot who broke him out as a traitor. That way Negan can get even more in Rick’s pocket. Brandon is going down. Also we haven’t seen any whisperers in a while, I wonder what they are up to…

  19. DonnieAlexander March 2, 2016 at 10:39 am - Reply

Such an awesome issue! NEGAN is Free, or so we think! Super excited and can’t wait for issue 153!

  20. CORAL March 2, 2016 at 10:41 am - Reply

Anyone thinking that he might do like Spencer and show to Rick how he’s not unfair and stuff with the kid?

  21. Hogg Head March 2, 2016 at 11:20 am - Reply

Fuck! Negan! Rick should have choke that scumbag Brandon to his death… I hope that Negan won’t kill Dwight.

  22. mattbeef March 2, 2016 at 11:22 am - Reply

Negan is headed for redemption and acceptance with the group. This was foreshadowed years ago. He isn’t going to screw over Alexandria. More likely to carve up Brendan…but you never know with Kirkman.

  23. Nogle March 2, 2016 at 11:59 am - Reply

How awesome is it that the TV show and comic are separated right now by almost sixty issues and 2+ years, but Negan is the imminent threat in both. Can’t keep a great man down

  24. pgilbride March 2, 2016 at 12:23 pm - Reply

By far the best single issue since the New Beginning time jump!

So he is “free” again. Free but not stupid. He has a plan or at least an outline of plan given the short time to make the decision. It is possible he made a run for it in the mix of everyone from Hilltop heading out. Doubtful though as it most likely wasn’t hours from the time Brandon took the keys and they were noticed to be missing. Negan is smart and would have calculated that into the plan as I am sure Rick and crew will search everything and everyone leaving. Of course he could hop the fence but as Negan stated “he isn’t deaf and can hear the community’s chatter.” He knows knows the threat of the Whispers. He most likely knows that Dwight is there too and no one is with the Saviors. If I had to place a bet I would say that he knows that there is no way out besides turning Brandon in, as others have suggested, to gain the trust. Then sit and wait for the Saviors to fall apart with the lack of real leadership. Rick won’t want to fight a war on two fronts and will know that either Dwight or Negan can get them back in some form of control. With Negan slowly trying to gain trust over the time he would be a better option and then “Bam” back in control.

Of course by back in control I’m not thinking in terms of causing all the hell again knowing what Rick and crew are capable of but back in power to “Build A Better World.” Even if you can’t control everything, as Negan once did, it is better to be on the top and “playing nice” than to be in a cell. He is a schemer and after the long time I am sure it is time to hatch the plan.

    oh… FUCK!!!
OK… now that I’m starting to come down a little…
I hope Negan’s not hiding under the bed.
I hope that’s not Negan’s blood on #153’s cover & Rick feeling a little sad because Negan didn’t change behind bars & it cost him his life.
    Oh FUCK what an issue!!!

  29. carlyyougoonie March 2, 2016 at 3:50 pm - Reply

Excuse me for a moment. I’m going to go curl up with Lucille and whisper sweet nothings to her. Daddy’s coming girrrrrrl.

The person talking to Eugene on the radio better not be the ghost of Rosita!! Hahaha

  31. toothrot March 2, 2016 at 5:02 pm - Reply

Oh man, After the Kumbaya Letdown of 150 I was about to give up! I’m glad I didn’t! Eugene’s new hairdo rules! Have him form a metal band! All seriousness, I am so stoked on the potential of seeing Negan encounter the whisperers, Challenge “alpha”, Cultivate pack of Zombie flesh wearing wives, punt “Brandon” around and get right up to the point where Eugene’s new CB buddies show up and wreck everyones plans! Please don’t be a famous Kirkman fakeout and Negan is sitting upstairs eating corn flakes!!! This comics best when it’s off the rails! THe art ( and how subtle the inking has gotten) was killer! Can the next issue train wreck here faster!!!

    AND UH.,…

  32. seanmathews1 March 2, 2016 at 5:03 pm - Reply

So…. I can help partly being pissed at Rick for keeping the keys to the cell holding a psycopathic killer just hanging on the wall. I mean jeez, at least keep the damn things in your pocket.

This issue was fucking sick. This is why I’ve read TWD since the beginning and still crack out for it now. I want more. I want it quicker but the good stuff takes time. Thanks Kirkman & crew. Fucking ****FREE NEGAN!!!*****

  34. omegamind13 March 2, 2016 at 5:12 pm - Reply

Sorry for the outburst but I’m having a hard time containing my excitement. 🙂

  35. KingDead March 2, 2016 at 5:39 pm - Reply

What THE FUCKING FUCK why does Brandon has to be such a young dumb ass kid. Does he realize Negan and the whisperers will fucking murder his ass just for the kick. He’s starting some shit he’ll regret and I hope that’s his blood on the cover of 153. Dumb ass. I DON’T TRUST THE RADIO GUY… something just rubs me wrong about him. But Eugene is mourning and I don’t think he’s thinking entirely rational. Hopefully they are good people. This was a great issue but now I’m sad another month has to go by before we find out what happens next. It’s nerve racking. Thanks Kirkman. You’re fuckin awesome

  36. GrimesTime March 2, 2016 at 5:46 pm - Reply

Amazing issue my heart was pounding when Rick was going down the stairs to check on Negan. Im getting more and more concerned for Ricks well being , his authority continues to be challenged even after all hes done. TO me Its a toss up Negan could burn Alexandria down or become an unlikely ally, one thing is for sure hes gonna wanna see Lucile sooner then later that for F***ing sure 🙂

  37. mewpals March 2, 2016 at 10:55 pm - Reply

The past two issues have been on point! Judging by the cover of the next issue, I have a feeling Brandon’s going to get himself killed by Negan, similar to how Spencer did. I wonder if Negan will still try convincing Rick to trust him… that would be ballsy.
I also love this new arc with Eugene and the radio. I’m thinking he found a settlement even bigger than the communities, almost like a city. That would be an intriguing way to expand the Walking Dead universe. But everything I said is probably wrong, so looking forward to finding out.

  38. CMercado815 March 3, 2016 at 1:10 am - Reply

    Holy moly!
Motherfucking Negan finally for our.. Of course it happens right after Kirkman says Negan is never getting out lol.. Well I honestly have no idea what’s gonna happen next.. Could go 2 ways.. Negan goes ape shit.. Or kills the kid for Rick.. I hope he goes ape shit…
And who the hell is Eugene talking too!?

  39. Cole_Bonesteel_4_Real March 3, 2016 at 4:39 am - Reply

I’m in love with this issue! Everything was great… I loved Eugne and the radio survivor trust conversation, it was fine to see another Rose member try to hurt/kill Rick, and then Rick just threading Brandon was awesome. Gaberial and Dwight bonding over the Lord was cool to see for the two of them. Maggie’s “what I’m going to do with out you” to Jesus was a awesome moment for there friendship, but it makes me worried about Jesus saying he’ll come back. But then again he’s Jesus. And the best part Negan being out of his cell!!! Amazing Issue!

  40. ricksgrimes March 3, 2016 at 12:58 pm - Reply

Just when i was thinking that Negan was getting his redemption (sort of?) arc here comes issue 152 to destroy everything. …or maybe i’m wrong and Negan will end up helping Rick and co. against the whisperers. Who knows? I’m really looking forward to the next issue. I hope Eugene will tell Rick about the radio and that we’ll get some more Jesus because we haven’t seen him that much lately. And, another thing: how brilliant is it that the three big communities are run by Rick, Maggie and Michonne?! Damn, i almost feel like a parent seeing their children growing up and becoming successful lol I have to say though, this was a fantastic issue! I’m gonna go read it again and start the countdown till the next issue comes out

  41. JoshW March 3, 2016 at 3:00 pm - Reply

Parents who are douchebags…will have children who are douchebags. That kid has no idea what he’s in for. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is found dead (next issue cover). Negan doesn’t tolerate turncoat bullshit…remember Spencer! Karma is a bitch..and this kid is not a survivor, so he’ll get what’s coming to him. However, the damage is done. I have no idea what to expect next from Negan. I haven’t anticipated the next issue this much since…well…last week.

  42. F**KU! March 3, 2016 at 3:03 pm - Reply

Holy F**K, F**K, F**K! Just when we least expect it. I can’t wait to see more Negan in the book & soon on the show. My wife doesn’t get why I love a villain so much. He’s just like an evil “Fonzie” to me.

  43. BarbaLucy March 4, 2016 at 12:42 pm - Reply

One of the best issues. First, Eugene and the snarky person on the other end of the radio: WTF, “You didn’t say over”?? Sounds like Donald Trump on the other side. God help us. Actually I still think it might be the whisperers. And Eugene you deserve a kick in the pants for telling them there were 50 people at Alexandria!
Negan free, I am sure the dream team is really sick and tired of us saying ” Free Negan” over and over. So we got what we wanted, maybe. Maybe he is just hiding under the bed? Or like many others have expressed, around the corner with a dead Brandon, ready to give the key back to Rick.

  44. QuinnCapeSurvives March 4, 2016 at 5:12 pm - Reply

WOW. This issue is easily one of my favorite issues in recent memory. I’m so excited that Negan is out. These next two covers have me conflicted in my predictions. On one hand we have Heavy Hangs the Head, which if I had to guess would be Negan killing Brandon to gain Rick’s trust. Then we have Lead to Slaughter, which looks like the Whisperers were lead to Alexandria, possibly by Negan and Brandon. Either way, I am super excited for what’s to come.

  45. wesleymalicote March 5, 2016 at 8:05 am - Reply

One of my favorite issue I’ve read since the beginning only because it was so full of stuff it kept me on the edge of my seat like okay what’s gonna happen next and I was not disappointed espesically when Rick had enough and hit that kid in the face with his cane

  46. dank790 March 6, 2016 at 5:12 am - Reply

This issue just put it’s wings around me and mother bird some knowledge down my meat slide. Negan is free and I don’t trust how he’s going to get rick to trust him. So excited for next issue.

  47. dank790 March 6, 2016 at 3:22 pm - Reply

I’m pretty sure negan is definitely going to get his hands on Dwight, and give his vampire bat a drink of some pizza face smoothy.
