walkingdead-145-outthisweek

Comment Winner!

We’ve decided that Toothrot had our favorite comment! “While everything has been leading to Michonne opening a giant can of Whoop Ass, it’s obvious, or at least I’m hoping, the “wolverine-runs-amuck-in-the-basement-of-the-hellfire-club -all-out-of-bubblegum-release-the-hounds” moment is gonna go to Eugene. After he fixes that CB and invites another set of misery unto the survivors, It’s probably get him killed, but he’ll go down in flames like a mulleted, pony tailed champion!”

We love the idea of Eugene on a violent revenge! It doesn’t hurt that I (Brian) have been re-reading older X-Men comics and so of course the Wolverine vs The Hellfire Club comment is going to take it. Also, Johnny loved how batshit crazy the comment was. So there you go, the mystery formula for picking a winner this week. Who know what it will be for the next contest?!

All those characters dead…. Ezekiel! Nooo. Imagine Michonne’s reaction ( which I predict what this issue is about ). I’m super hyped to see the action between the Whisperers and Alexandria.

  2. Claudia Nichter August 12, 2015 at 7:13 am - Reply

I am not surprised at Michonne’s reaction. But I am very impressed with Lydia’s quick moves on Michonne too. Being out with them crazies has done her well. But I am not looking forward to this up coming volume, it’ll kill me if I lose Michonne.

This issue has to be one of my favorites. Seeing Michonne lose it and resent herself for leaving Ezekiel for the boat was heartbreaking, but hopefully it means that she’ll be more active in the new path Rick and the communities are about to go down. It was shocking to see Lydia go from her reserved self to threatening Michonne so quickly… The art in this issue was completely beautiful. I wish there had been a bigger focus on everyone’s reaction to what Alpha had done, September feels like such a long time to wait for it… Andrea has turned into such a hardass, not even shedding a tear as she killed the reanimated Rosita, despite them seeming to have a close friendship after the time jump. I can’t wait to see how Rick handles The Whisperers! We’ve been in Alexandria for so long, I miss the dangers of huge group being on the open road (maybe things will change with Eugene’s new toy, provided he can pull himself together to fix it).

Kirkman for once was not trolling about this issue containing a whole compendiums worth. Truly amazing writing.

Such an amazing series, holy shit!

Am I a little late for Issue 1? This new Walking Dead fan’s got some catching up to do…Thank you Robert Kirkman.

Got a copy of this issue waiting for me at the LCS. Can’t wait to get it after work!

That was amazing, that’s all i can say.

Pretty slow issue overall but it’s definitely a cog in the machine leading up to much greater events. Need the slow paced humanity every now and again because it makes the characters worth liking.

  10. NeganSavior01 August 12, 2015 at 11:40 am - Reply

I hope that all of the communities unite and face off against the Whisperers. That would just be awesome. It would be All Out War Part 3: United States of Rick vs. The Whisperers. Also, if Kirkman threw Negan into that mix, words could not describe the level of awesomeness that it would be.

  11. Devmar8 August 12, 2015 at 11:56 am - Reply

That was an amazing issue. I don’t understanding how people are saying it was filler. What it was was a prime example of how much we care for characters. This is what the Walking Dead is about. It’s all about how characters deal with the new surrounding that they are forced into. And never have they had this large a death toll to deal with. Can’t wait till next week

It seems like Lydia isn’t as weak as Alpha made her out to be with that Michonne scene. Really looking forward to how she fits in!

This issue made me fell so sad even after the initial shock of 144. I do think that Rick has the right mindset that if he goes to war with the whisperers it will not end well, and even if he does not want to go to war he might not have a choice because of how heartbroken many of the people within the communities will be and they will start the war. I cannot wait to see where this story goes.

  14. SatisfactionDay August 12, 2015 at 2:57 pm - Reply

This issue was excellent, it didn’t have as much of an impact as #144, but it is increasing the hype.

Every issue I have to be more and more nervous than the last.
One of my main concerns is for Eugene, and what about the baby?
I’m hoping they explain the baby, or hopefully she/he is alive.

I just recently finished “from whispers to screams” (#23) so I am not that far in the scenario to comment properly. But it MUST be awesome!

  16. MikeLacey August 12, 2015 at 3:43 pm - Reply

As hard to read as #144 in many ways, it’s not often we get to see that side of Rick.

This issue could have been called The Quiet Before The Storm. Alexandria’s going to explode, and not everyone trusts Rick as much as Andrea and Michonne do.

  17. Candri August 12, 2015 at 4:19 pm - Reply

Maybe Lydia is all business and she was planted there to keep the whisperers informed if they will attack or not. Notice alpha told her to leave after she butchered the 12 people.

I absolutely love the previous story arcs all the way back to the very first one but honestly, The Walking Dead Series has never been better! Robert Kirkmans writing has matured over the years and Charlie Adlards art more defined than ever! This issue was yet, another home run! (Now where the hell is Lucille? hehe)

Most seem to think Eugene was working on the radio to find other survivors (and maybe he will now) but I originally though he was trying to convert it into a baby monitor.

I think this issue was exactly what we needed, both the characters and us as readers. It was more of a shock cool down of an issue. While obviously not as exciting and INSANE as the last one, it didn’t need to be. A period of grief is necessary and I don’t think this is all we will see of Michonne grieving.

It’ll be interesting to see what she does, seeing how she handles revenge previously (Governor). Is that the kind of recklessness she is going to go for? I hope so for the sake of the crazy story but not if it costs her her life.

And for some reason I still really trust Lydia, especially since she held her own this issue.

It’s my first time commenting. It’s about time.
I’ve been reading Walking Dead comics monthly for 4 years, after I binge read everything I could in one week.
I have to say that WD opened the comics world for me, as I’m not really a big superhero fan – and I was not really a big zombie fan either – but in here I found a really great drama focused story instead of mindless action and just loved it.
145 issues gone, and I have to say that this story ark is becoming one of my favorites. I have The Hunters (little) ark as my number one, and yes I really love Negan’s/All Out War ark too, but The Whisperers are just absolutely brilliant villains. Maybe the best yet. Not just Alpha, it’s the group itself… it’s just a one of the scariest and strongest threats yet, and the creepiest too.
It’s amazing how Robert Kirkman matured the story so much after all this years… I really, really, think that WD is at it’s best right now. Honestly. And not just the writing… Adlard is getting better and better, year after year. Sometimes I go back and read one or two random issues and I really see a growth in the quality of the panels from back then to now.

As for this issue… after the last one I was expecting this type of confrontation. It’s really rare that we’re able to see Michonne ‘brake’ this way. Rick telling her that she needed to be stronger that he would be it’s really something… it was sort of selfish, but at the same time its a sign of how much he admires her. The hug panel was heartbreaking.
One of the things that surprised me in this issue was that Eugene, after all, didn’t know. From the last issue I got the idea that, in someway, he knew Rosita was gone. It was a powerfull panel him on his knees… I think I will stay with that idea, because it gives a lot more impact to the issue.

Thank you for this amazing story.

What Alpha said in 144 could be the soultion to all of this, “If the Alpha does assert itself.. there is chaos. I only fill the role as needed, until ANOTHER steps up and takes it from me”

Couldnt Rick just kill Alpha infront of all the whisperers?

    • BASTET. August 18, 2015 at 5:31 am - Reply

There’s the central issue right there… Rick is bound to be tested. Will he go against the grain & uphold his no-kill society or will he kick ass pre-AOW Rick style? Either decision could make or break Rick and the community that he’s built.

  24. seanmathews1 August 13, 2015 at 10:26 am - Reply

If anything, this issue highlights the precarious situation Rick is in. He really is between a rock and a hard place. He knows that everyone will want revenge, but unfortunately, he also knows what they are up against. He saw the herd. It is very true when he admitted this could be his own undoing and that all they worked for could come to an end.

On the other side of the spectrum, Alpha messed up big time. While there are many different social cliques within the various locations, she made the mistake of killing one from each. This will work to unite everyone, regardless of past differences. She wanted to avoid a confrontation, but in the end, she has likely started one bigger than we saw in All Out War.

I suspect that we will see new leaders emerge in this new war. It would be hard not for it to happen. We have lost Ezekiel and so many others. Now, we will see Magna and her group rise in prominence. I don’t think they will directly compete with Rick for leadership. They have seen what he has built. This will be more of a military type of leadership and rank structure.

Rick, at this point, is basically a Battalion Commander. He has three large companies underneath him, each with their own leaders. Within those company’s, new leaders will arise and all will work together towards the destruction of the Whisperers.

I am excited for the direction this arch is taking. At the same time, I am terrified. Walking Dead is in top form right now.

The emotions were high in this issue… Poor Michonne… And especially poor Eugene… Awesome arc, I hope Dante manages to kick some more Whisperer ass, he’s starting to become a new favorite character of mine… I couldn’t have been the only one turned on by Lydia threatening Michonne… I am…? Okay…

Lydia is bad ass and I am still thinking that she is the one that is going to be the real next villane of the series, alpha is just a distraction, Lydia is organising all this party ( good news is that everybody is invited )

Carl really irritated me in this issue. How are you gonna point a gun at michonne over a girl you just met? Rick should of slapped him across the side of the head. Overall great issue and I can’t wait to witness their recations! And I am so curious to know why Maggie is punching Rick.

  32. KingDead August 14, 2015 at 7:50 am - Reply

What a great issue. It’s always good to see the comic slow down after a tragedy to focus in on reactions. I liked the Carl and Josh scene when Carl weighs in on the fact he lost a friend. Hasn’t lost a friend in a long time. The all had gotten pretty comfortable i think that’s when Carl finally realized what type of danger he was really in and started. Then after Lydia was about to kill Michonne Carl had the nerve to pull a gun on her. I think Lydia is going to be a problem to the remaining survivors just because she came from the Whisperer camp and she is already responsible for so much death. I see maggie not liking her. That goes Sophia too. Then Carl has the other girl i forget her name but she’s at Alexandria. I just see multiple conflicts just got Lydia to over come. I feel so bad for Michonne. And Eugene for that matter. They both lost the person they loved most in the apocalypse. After they all fought so hard to get to the new world they made. I like how that last pannel with Rick explaining that they were supposed to be celebrating being one and together but how ironic that same day danger is still very relevant in this new world. Terrible news indeed. I was crushed when we lost Shiva but now i guess Zeke can be with her again. Sad to see him go ge was such a cool character. Rosita too. Even tho she played Eugene. Can’t wait for 146

  33. Spector99 August 15, 2015 at 10:35 am - Reply

So I guess it doesn’t matter who the father of Rosita’s baby is now…

“I’m afraid I have terrible news…” DAMN YOU KIRKMAN!! I know how you just love those cliffhangers. I’m counting on this next issue to really pack a punch… figuratively and literally.

  35. JoshW August 16, 2015 at 12:25 pm - Reply

First off….let me say that my wife, before handing me this issue back, said she had to read it a second time through because of how powerful this issue is. And although we don’t agree on everything at all times, we were in total agreement here!
There are more emotional panels drawn/written in this one issue than I can remember in a long time. It’s heartbreaking to see Michonne so distraught over her loss knowing that she blew her chance at something meaningful with Ezekiel. She showed a lot of anger and want for vengeance, and I don’t believe Rick’s “you have to be stronger than I could be” line will hold. I felt for Michonne in that moment….being told to basically keep her head while she’s looking at her potential love’s on a pike.
This issue pushed forward the already possibly huge conflict brewing in our group. Rick is having to make decisions based on a “greater good” while in the process pushing himself away from a few of his closest friends. Not to mention, Carl “What the Fuck Are You Thinking” Grimes pointing a gun at Michonne….AT MICHONNE!!..all in defense of a girl, who in all appearances seems to be as cold as ice…and much more than maybe she has let on. I’d keep a couple eyes on her at all times. She’s going to end up breaking Carl’s heart and maybe doing some more damage in the process.
On a more upbeat note, I simply can not get over how amazingly awesome Andrea is currently being drawn in the story. She looks so badass in her Dollars Trilogy hat and poncho. I almost half expect her to start picking people off with a six-shooter. And the shadows that are used to shade her face make for some of my favorite Andrea panels to date….and makes the final page of this issue fittingly epic!

  36. Exo Epic August 17, 2015 at 4:35 am - Reply

While many complain on how this Issue “was too slow” or “was too short”, I say that this issue was a GREAT breather after the horrific events of Issue #144 (Rosita.. *sob* :'( ). It really hit me hard when Michonne hugged Rick after knocking him on his ass. I was also struck with emotion when Carl was looking at Josh’s head. Carl hadn’t cried for FORTY issues (Since Issue #105 after Negan told him to take off his bandage), and when he does, it’s for his friend. Damn. Robert Kirkman is just getting good. I LOVE the new layout for the introduction and Letter Hacks. AWESOME. 😀

The only words I can come up with to describe the past few issues is Holy Amazeballs!!! I read Issues 144 and 145 back to back and it was the single greatest experience I’ve ever had reading a comic! I had no idea what to expect but I knew something major was going to go down but nothing prepared me for what happened. As I read, it felt like I was strapped into a vertical drop amusement park ride, slowly ascending. The fear and excitement increasing as I read on. At the end of issue 145 that excitement and fear reached it’s tipping point and I dropped. Seeing the lifeless heads of some of my beloved character’s and seeing Eugene’s and Michonne’s reactions brought a tear to my eye. I never knew I could feel this way about fictional characters. The Walking Dead has been an amazing experience and I can’t wait to see what compendium 4 brings next!

Hmmm it seems revenge is in the air. The question is, will the camps be unified in deciding to go to war with the whisperers? We know that Rick has the most information about the whisperers and their secret weapon, but Rick has mellowed and doesn’t seem to want any more bloodshed. The Saviors? Who knows…. we are not privy to them much, all we know is that no one seems to like them, even their leader. Now Hilltop will fight, Maggie will be raring to go once she finds out what happened.
I think having an issue where only reflection on what has happened occurred is a good thing. It also makes us really excited for the next issue, when I bet all heck breaks loose!
