The Walking Dead Issue 133 Discussion

It’s the 133 discussion post! Once you’ve got your sticky little paws on the issue, this is the place to talk about it!

If you have any reaction to the issue besides “I NEED 134 RIGHT NOW!” then I don’t know what to do with you. Next month can’t get here fast enough.

Robert’s super busy right now, so we can’t get a 133 signed this week so I guess we’re out of luck… unless there’s something here in my drawer… hm, how about an SDCC 129 variant signed by Robert Kirkman? That’s not too shabby! Best comment wins it!

Travis, I feel the same way about The Whisperers!

You guys, this commenting system is a COMPLETE DOWNGRADE for this site! Even if it serves its purpose well for cutting back on the amount of comments, it is still very non-user friendly! We can’t keep up with new posts that come through without looking at the time stamps & we can’t tell when someone replies to us. In a discussion, we should be able to differentiate! You wanted the meandering to stop…this is a surefire way to stop it…by driving people away! Is this what you really want?

Do you know what else you are losing? COMMUNITY Now, that may not be important to you, but do you not realize that the community you once had here is really what drew a lot of good people in & kept them coming back? It is NOT the threads…you guys are almost always a day or two late posting what we’ve already seen elsewhere. It is what we fans had with one another & the love and appreciation that we wanted to bestow on you guys for being the source (what I affectionately called “home base”). Good people built a positive foundation here. If you don’t believe me, compare us with the discussion section of the EW articles that you link to sometimes & at many other places ( here’s one you haven’t linked to: ….they’re filled with people being rude & obnoxious to one another or loading the page up with political conundrum & accusations that have no place in the comments section! It’s a MESS out there; we had an awesomely unique thing going here!

If community’s not your thing, fine. Problem has definitely been solved for you. It just leaves some of us long-time supporters displaced at the moment. If you plan to incorporate Insider incentives for comments, you’ll regain traffic but you’re sure to get the flux of what drives us good people away… some of everything out there, including those that feed on negativity. They won’t like the commenting system but they’ll stay for the freebies. I don’t know about you, but I’m for quality over quantity always.

STRONG>THE LEAST you could do is fine tune things so that the comments flow better. And for god’s sake, if you’re going to ask US to keep comic spoilers down or to keep discussions at a particular arc, then we IMPLORE YOU to moderate the assholes that post show spoilers!

Seriously Jesus? “Are the horses in the stable?” Hilariously clichéd code phrase, but effective, I guess. Main points in this issue: Carl’s hilltop life (not sure how I feel about his NEW new look) and the Whisperers. So, first off, Carl: if they are establishing a love triangle, I am rooting for Sophia, because Anna (or Ana?) is not an established character, and besides, Sophia now makes a tough counterpart to Carl. Also, Carl looks like he will make an excellent blacksmith. Now, the Whisperers: Some have better grammar than others. Maybe we will learn more about their group; there might be a division where some people go full zombie and some people only utilize the disguise but still have human traits. Hopefully Jesus gets out of this alive, he’s a favorite character, and we haven’t seen him much lately. And yeah, he’s on the covers of some later issues, but it specifically said in the Letter Hacks that that doesn’t necessarily mean much, it could be a big fake-out. So, I’m excited to learn more about the Whisperers, but there are so many characters and story lines that I am excited about too. Never has TWD been so full of mystery, for the most part, we have always known what is going on….

Oh yeah, so Dwight and Rick are buddies now? Alright, sure.

One last thing…. Poor Eugene…. I’m not gonna try to guess who this mysterious “he” is, I will just let it play out.

Rick is getting to be the Gandalf of this universe and I’m still waiting to see the whisperers pit of walkers where they look down and yell, “It puts the lotion on it’s skin…. It does what it’s told!!!”
P.S. Carl and sofia are the post-apocalyptic Corey and Topanga if we are being honest!

Buttons didn’t run away. Buttons was stolen by the crazy lady whom Aaron recruited for ASZ; but then she stabbed Eric, stole all their supplies and one of their horses, Buttons, and rode of into the sunset never to be seen again.

I used to use the phrase “Are there any bats in the cave?” to subtly ask a friend if I had a big boog hanging. From this day forward I am changing that practice to “Are the horses in the stable?” Thank you Jesus!

With the knowledge that the next villain/enemy is a woman, I’m going with Lilly Caul. The last we see of her(in the comics) she leads the Woodsburians into the prison. If you read the novels, we learn she gets out and they go to rebuild the community post Governor. Now it could have ended there, but the Novels have extended into another 3-4 Novels. I believe that the reason for this is we will see Lilly Caul again in the comics. How and why is yet to be seen or told. But I would assume that she recognizes Rick and his group from the prison, and because she never learned about them, she is on edge and has hard feelings for them. Just a hunch.

*Thinking* “Oh god I really wanna talk to Andrea”
*Knocks on Door* “Oh God oh god what do i say!?”
*Andrea answers Door* “Are the horses in the stable?”

Anyway loved the issue guys and I hope you enjoyed a delve into Jesus’s inner most thoughts… and his secret love for Andrea and Horse Welfare…

Who thinks they can step to the son of god?! CHRIST! Jesus is about to put the Holy Ghost into these demented spooks. Just finished this issue and I am fired up, SO many emotions. So happy for big pimpin Carl, haven’t seen a player of this caliber since Tyreese. Excited to see how puberty screws it all up. As we all know, zombies aren’t the only ones that can tear out your heart in this world.
And am I the only one who started tearing up when Andrea was recounting the epic tale that is Alexandria? I’ve started to love these communities as much as any character, ain’t no voyeuristic leather-face gonna take them down. These damned “whisperers” are going to pay for their growing misdeeds, and I don’t think Rick’s solution is gonna be expanding the prison. THEY DONT GET TO LIVE! I can’t wait to hear their screams… and then to watch as Rick brutally clicks “mute”
Helpful hint: set ablaze to a horde of walkers, the living ones will scream and the dead ones will get some delicious southern style barbecue

Issue #133 was full of quotables/future memes! “Are the horses in the stable?”- I am going to forever associate that with Jesus! And now anytime I type Carl’s name it is going to be like this: “Carl Grimes (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)” like Anna’s letter referred to him- TWICE! I think that when anyone does that twice in the same letter, it’s a red flag that she’s a starfucker!

  22. azupop October 22, 2014 at 2:51 pm - Reply

I think the main reason that Eugene was crying in Issue #133 is that he feels bad about the whole cuckolding thing he did with Rosita and” that other guy” which has now resulted in a bun in the oven!

    • azupop October 22, 2014 at 2:54 pm - Reply

‘Cuz if you waaayyyy back to like Issue #60 (someone correct me here with the issue number) we know that Eugene “likes to watch” like a true cuckold- he got his jollies in that issue watching Abraham and Rosita gettin it on in the Army transport truck. “If the truck’s a-rockin don’t come a-knockin” as the saying goes…

  25. mattbeef October 22, 2014 at 4:31 pm - Reply

The Carl love-triangle with Sophia and Anna seemed somewhat cliched, that is until it went full-blown love-square telenovela style with Carl accidentally getting Rosita pregnant.

    Did not see that coming.

    • Neutral-Grey October 24, 2014 at 1:36 am - Reply

      He’s a straight player.

But can you really blame the cliche, though? He’s a teenager. Not just that but a lot of people look up to him because he was an active participant in the war against Negan at only nine years old. Makes him a gem to look up to. Naturally this would result in him being desirable.

Ditto on the comments about the comments.

Now on to the issue. I have been awake for two days now completely sick about this Rosita situation. I haven’t slept. I haven’t eaten. And I haven’t been to work. Well my job sucks but that’s another story. Seriously, this is going to mess up Eugene big time. It is unclear whether Rosie identified the father but I bet the storyline becomes Eugene walking around crazy wondering which one did it. I freaking LOVED Rosita and was mad as hell about what happened with Holly. How does she now cheat on Eugene? At least Abraham was in love but she acts like this was just a romp.

Eugene is a fantastic guy who has meant a great deal to the community. If she loves Eugene and just succumbed to some hot guy for fun then my mind is blown. I hate this. I hate all of this. Somebody needs their face ironed. I have spoken.

The whisperers are pretty cool villains … they take walker camouflage to a whole new level. Rick and the gang have a big threat on there hands. Maybe not so much in regards to this group invading Alexandria, the Kingdom or the Hilltop but in regards to moving outside the walls. It seems like everycommunity is doing well because they are united. Traveling outside seemed somewhat safe the last couple of issues, but there were subtle reminders of what a false sense of security of having stationed guards on the roads. Rick knows everything he and his friends have built hinges on being able to travel between communities. … Rick gets frustrated in an earlier issue when an “assignment” was missed by Benjamin. Like every good leader, Rick is more aware of what can go wrong. The Whis peers or “wannabe walkers” have referenced earlier the groups have entered their lands. I think these pepole are highly sophisticated and may have more advanced mapping capabilities. … They may have the upperhand. Rick’s group was tough when it was on the open road. They maybe getting a “call back” to open, uncharted land soon.

  39. jmoore711b October 26, 2014 at 12:48 am - Reply

Two other quick notes on this issue. The first is that I’m kind of worried that Robert can so effectively write a love note from a teenage girl. I have a teenage daughter and that was spot on. He kind of loses some man-points with me now. But I’m annoyed that Andrea is totally cool with how Magna’s group treated her. Maybe they’ve had a pleasant conversation but you can’t just break in and threaten Andrea. I really hope there are some repercussions here.

  40. Vegaiti October 26, 2014 at 7:10 pm - Reply

I think the group that is talking with Andrea is related with the new zombie dressed group.
I think that the leader is a forgotten person that already appeared in the TWD
I think Carl grimes (!!!!!) will be ok with Sophia but she will find out that ana is a big competence.
I think that Jesus is going to have a hard time but is not going to get killed this time,

this arc is no competition the best story arc in TWD so far. Its so full of mystery and the unknown, For the first time in a long time I absolutely cant even begin to guess whats going to happen. I heard Dwight mentioned this issue and that was a good thing because i liked Dwight once he started working with Rick to take down Negan. But i have a huge issue with this issue…lol…Where’s Michonne!!!?? last issue(or maybe the one before that) There was talk of Michonne and how i believe it was Andrea “misses her” i could be wrong about that being Andrea who said that but still I was reallyyy expecting to find more out about that whole Michonne line, is she dead? is she at the Kingdom? Where is Ezekiel? Does he have a new Tiger? haha no but seriously there is soo much going on that we as readers do not know about and it really is making for some highly anticipated issues going forward. Jesus is going to mess those “Whisperers” UP. Because well hes Jesus…and they just made a toy of him soo you know hes going to live! Also to all you Skybound and AMC people out there I think the new comment system is PERFECT how it is, And i know you all are working hard to improve it even better so i just wanted to say that because of those Negative Nancys up top complaining about it lol.

Walking Dead 133 is the first comic I’ve bought on the day it came out, and the only second I’ve ever purchased in paper form (the first was #132). I can’t believe I’ve been reading this series digitally. Seeing the art up close and personal makes a huge difference.

The low speed chase/stalk of Jesus’s group by The Whisperers is probably one of the scarier moments in the series to date for me. It’s only one page where they are actually shown following Jesus, but the way the tension builds when the story shifts to Carl and Sophia and back again is incredible.

It’s got all the inexorable dread of a normal roamer horde, except they are violent, intelligent strangers with some unknown (but malicious!) intent. I read this comic primarily for the world building and the characters, but this one seriously made me afraid.

Please be safe Jesus. Please be safe.
