Is Sasha the New Andrea?

Who will replace Andrea? That is the question comic fans have been asking more and more as the show progresses without her, since she is a pivotal character in The Walking Dead comics. Ever since Show Andrea perished early in Season 3, there’s been a lot of speculation about which character will take on Andrea’s role from the comics, where she is still alive after over 100 issues.

At times Carol, and even Michonne, seem to be likely candidates, but Sasha remains firmly in the lead. Don’t believe us? We take a look at Andrea’s major beats in the comics, and the women who picked them up on the show.

(SPOILERS for the comics up to late Alexandria–around issue 80)

The Parental Woes – Carol

Carol’s conflict with Lizzie in the show is a reflection of Andrea and Dale’s same situation in the comics. Instead of Billy and Ben, we have Lizzie and Mika in the show, but you get the picture. Where Andrea was the adoptive mother in the comic book series—dealing with similar events in which Billy dissects Ben—Carol was the one who had to face this challenge on the show. Both stoic badasses, it looked for a while as if Carol might take on Andrea’s role in the comics. That was, until:

The Tainted Meat – Sasha

In the comics, it’s Dale who gets bitten and subsequently snacked on by the Hunters while Andrea deals with the emotional baggage he leaves behind. In the show, however, this dramatic beat is given to Bob, and as a consequence it’s Sasha who has to deal with his passing. Just like Andrea in the comic, Sasha is there in the last moments as her lover turns. It’s a dark moment, and one that lingers with Andrea (and Sasha) for quite some time.

The Sharpshooter – Sasha

While in the show everyone might be a master of the headshot, in the comics Andrea is notably the best shot in the group. The first hint that Sasha might fill Andrea’s shoes as the group’s sharpshooter was in Episode 507, when she was given a sniper rifle and designated to watch the Grady cops. Shortly thereafter, when the gang hit the road, it became clear that, gun in hand, she was a force to be reckoned with. Did you see how she took down all those targets outside of Alexandria? Which brings us to…

The Watchtower – Sasha

In Episode 513, Sasha volunteered to be a lookout for Alexandria, so it sounds like Sasha is going to be stationed up in Alexandria’s watchtower just like Andrea was in the comics! Using her expert sniping skills, Andrea took to defending Alexandria from on high, and now it appears that Sasha is going to do the same.

Romance with Rick – Michonne? Sasha?

We wouldn’t dare suggest that this might end up being Carol for fear of the “Caryl” shippers rioting. BUT there is some definite chemistry between Rick and Michonne. Will she end up with Rick, or, as the show progresses, will Sasha end up in a relationship with him? It’s hard to say for now, because in the comics Rick doesn’t jump right into a relationship with Andrea. First he dates Jessie, for what feels like 100 issues but is actually just a few.

It’s probably fair to say that Rick is going to hit it off with an Alexandrian before finally settling with someone from the group, but as time passes, maybe Sasha will fall for Rick just as Andrea did in the comics.

So, what do you guys think? Will Sasha become Comic Andrea, or will the writers continue spreading out her significant moments between characters? Which would you rather see happen? Comment and let us know!

I thought this some time back..and I am very happy to see it coming to bloom. I noticed the connections with the death scene of Bob vs. the Comic Dale scene…so similar!….I love the idea that Sasha is Comic Andrea…..I wan to see more of her character development and have he become even more BADASS!!

I’d add Andrea wearing Dale’s hat and Sasha wearing Bob’s jacket…

I don’t remember Rick ever dating Alice… He dated Jessie. At any rate, I could see the TV show spreading out Andrea’s story within different characters in the group, but I think Sasha will take on the sharp-shooting aspect of the comic book character.

Sorry, I’ll have to be annoying 😛

It wasn’t Sasha who delivered the final blow, it was Tyreese. She couldn’t do it. And Rick dated Jessie, not Alice (i only remember Alice from the prison, when Lori was still alive).

Anyway, it’s a good comparison. But i see Carol filling the “badass role” much more than Sasha. Or maybe she’ll rule Hilltop eventually? We’ll have to wait and see, hahah

Seems like Andrea is a little more banged up , maybe Sasha will get a big face scar.

I don’t think there will be a definitive Comic Andrea = Show xxxxx. The show mixes and matches characteristics so Belltower Sasha doesn’t have to lead to dating Rick. I think Andrea’s ghost is probably split between several characters. I like when they mix and match. (Carol, not Glenn, goes after the guns… Sasha, not Michonne, storms out of the party..) Did anyone else notice that although they replaced “Holly” with (was it Francine?) they still made a passing reference to Holly being at the party? I thought that was bizzarre. Why switch the names of the characters? (I’m assuming that the Holly storyline will actually be “Francine”). I don’t know. I’ll stop talking now.

This is how I think the finale is going to go:

Rick will attack Pete in this weeks episode. The finale will be like the comic book, with Pete having his face all bruised up and bloody, and instead of Regina Monroe from the comic book getting her throat slit, I’m going to say Carol will get her throat slit. Norman Reedus said it was going to be a extremely said episode, and he is very close to Carol.

If you look at what has happened, Carol’s story is basically over. She got the guns, helped the group get to “safety” and she taught that kid to make those cookies so she wouldn’t have to. Didn’t she say to Olivia not to tell anyone about the apple sauce for eggs switch? Yes, I do know Carol doesn’t care about the recipe, but it seems like her giving it to the boy is foreshadowing her death as in no one “needs” her anymore. Not even the little boy for cookies.

Made this before Season 5 started. I believed then, as I still do now, that Sasha is 100% absorbing Comic Andreas Sniper story line although I am still on the fence about the relationship. Part of me believes it could even be a new character that is brought in during Season 6 that will fill Comic Andreas romance shoes… to be continued….

I think Sasha will be the new Andrea and i say this solely because they switched holly out with Franccine. If they’re any true comic fans then you’ll understand why they did this. Black hair similar tone and same tough ass mentality i think they’re going to use this to their advantage in a very specific battle. But also sasha has been through a lot just like comic book Andrea did and i think Rick is the only person she’ll get close to personally seeing as how she’s losing more and more trust for outsiders every episode. After the Rick love triangle is over we’ll see more of Rick and Sasha come together and become close. She may even give the whole we don’t die speech seeing as how they’ve lost so much and so many people and they still survive. Could so see Carol dying soon even tho i don’t want her to. I love tv show Carol hated comic book Carol but tv show Carol is one of my favorites. But glenn24hee had a nice prediction i could totally see and accept that on TWD tv show. Sasha and Rick could make a strong couple as well so if she is the new Andrea I’m all for it

Rick will not follow his love path from the comics, if at all it will derive from a new love interest.

Alice? You mad? You guys wrote the show… He gets with jesse after rick kills pete, sasha will tried become andrea when she kills that first group that approach the gate, maybe they’ll be these wolves you talk about?

I first started thinking about Sasha being “the sniper” when she was on the Woodbury wall. By that time, we all knew Andrea was a good shot but she certainly didn’t match her comic counterpart! As for a relationship with Rick, I can’t see Rick with ANY of the people that he is currently calling his family. That would be damn near awkward at this point! With that being said, I can’t help but think that Jessie’s gonna be around for a while… she’s stronger than her comic counterpart & the spark, as well as the opportunity, is certainly there! Who’s to say that Andrea 2.0 won’t be a combo of 2 women?

I believe in my opinion is that Sasha is the new Andrea from the comics 100% sure. And she might have a relationship with Rick sooner or later. Robert Kirkman did say there gonna do everything from the comics.

I would think that is what they are trying to make us believe. There has been more than once that things aren’t as they seem.

I’d like to see Sascha and Rick end up together they’d have to build on their relationship a great deal but I could see it kirkman wants a diverse show and I think they do a great job not stereotyping race religion or sexual orientation in a zombie world the show is very real and very true to human nature with out the Hollywood typecasting this is because the base of everything comes from one mans mind someone with common sense and respect for reality as (funny as that sounds) I feel like gimple is on the same page as well

Sasha has no chemistry with Rick. You barely ever see them interacting. I would be very surprised to see a relationship there. Michonne would be a more likely match but I don’t see that happening either.

    • I believe that Sasha is the new Andrea. Andrea (in the show) dies at the end of season three, which is about the time Sasha was introduced. When Andrea dies, Sasha starts getting a predominate role. Then of course Bob takes Dales role when it comes to getting bite, then having his leg cut off by the guys from Terminus (again, the show). Then there’s Sasha wearing Bob’s coat, much like Andrea wearing Dale’s hat. Then there’s Sasha taking the guard tower position, and becoming the expert rifleman (look at those amazing head shots!). I think it’s safe to say that Sasha is the new Andrea, now to say that Sasha and Rick will hook up, that’s a long shot. If anyone hooks up with Rick, it would be Michonne, which is unlikely now that she basically bitch slapped him while throwing his mid-life crisis. Well see in the season finale, and hopefully see Morgan again either in the finale or the first episode of Season 6 because lets now forget that Michonne and Morgan had a one night stand while in Alexandria!

Hope none of the folks from prison die. Andrea wasn’t bad—. She was annoying. But I liked her.
