Is Daryl Heading to the Comic?

Robert Kirkman has gone back and forth on whether or not we’ll see either of the Dixon brothers in the comics.

Right before the “Something to Fear” storyline, Kirkman hinted that Daryl might be making an appearance.

“I’ve definitely considered writing Daryl in to the comics,” said Kirkman. “Norman is always pestering me about it. All I can say right now is that if you have been paying attention to the Internet we did just release a series of teasers called ‘Something to Fear’ for a new story arc that’s coming up and it’s a series of very threatening looking people with very specific weapons and one of them has a crossbow.”

However, as fans of The Walking Dead comics know, the character was a new addition to the cast. Then, just last year at San Diego Comic Con, when Robert Kirkman was asked if Daryl Dixon would ever be in the comics, he answered with a resounding no.

“I have thought about it,” Kirkman said, “but in the end, I like the fact that there are only certain characters you can do in different mediums.”

But Daryl fans, don’t give up hope yet! This past weekend at Amazing Arizona Comic Con, Robert elaborated quite a bit on potentially having Daryl show up. Here’s the full except from the panel:

“I guess it wouldn’t be a bad thing if Daryl Dixon showed up in the comic. But I don’t know. I really like the separation. I like that when we sit down to write the show one of the first things we deal with is: ‘How does Daryl Dixon change this story?’ Because we always start from: ‘Ok, we like this part of the comic. How are we going to do it?’

And it’s just always interesting to get in there and be like, ‘Oh, well his existence and the fact that his personality is this, and he would behave this way, means that he would react to this person differently than this and differently than that.’ And it’s just really a great thing for the show that he doesn’t exist in the comic. And I really like that.

But yeah, I don’t know. It would be cool if he was in the comic, but I don’t really have any plans on doing that. But I guess he would be the one if I was going to pull any character from the show into the comic, it would be him. Mostly just because I love Norman [Reedus]. Handsome dude.”

It looks like everyone is crushing on Norman. Daryl is awesome, no doubt, but with a such a rich cast of characters already do we even need Daryl in the comic? He’s great in the show, but maybe for now he should just live on the screen.

What are your thoughts? Do you think it makes sense to bring Daryl to the comics? Let us know in the comments!

It’s just Kirkman trolling us again. He knows it gets people talking. Daryl won’t show up in the comics. There’s no way to do so without making it feel forced.

Daryls not great in the show. He is wayyyy too overrated. For example. In Too Far Gone a bullet goes STRAIGHT THROUGH Bobs shoulder, but none go through a decomposing walker body Daryl was using as a shield? Then he takes out a tank. Come on. I understand Daryl is a marketing puppet, but you guys are really pushing it far. So no. The comics are amazing as is and doesnt need Daryls greasy ass. He can keep his ass in the T.V show.

If Darryl (and Meryl) were to be introduced, now would be the time. They totally fit in as one of Negan’s men.

I personally would much prefer Daryl to stay in the show. He’s a pretty awesome character but only for the small screen. The TV show is “Too Far Gone” from the comics to introduce him now (ba dum tss). Although it would be cool to see a cameo of him, like as a walker or just some background soldier in Negan’s army or something. Besides, the comics have friggen Jesus and he EASILY tops Daryl in kickassery.

I believe that if Robert Kirkman puts Daryl in the comics it will give the TV show plus the comic a huge amount of publicity. Making people wanting to read the comics and watch the TV show even more.

Norman didnt impress me much the first season of TWD but over the seasons he has really developed in to a character u want to root for. Im sure Daryl would be popular if he was introduced in the books first but nothing like the popularity his tv counterpart has. I wouldnt want him in the comics now because 2 many girls would be flocking to them in hopes there is a panel of him without a shirt on and that maybe some one will call him “pookie” cause thats cute :P. lets see what happens when they hire Adrian Brody to play Jesus, then TWD will be nothing but girl fans 😛

Last year Kirkman said he’ve already wrote chapter 200. And now he said that has no plans to introduce Daryl into the comic books. So.. if he appears, we’ve got to wait a looooot of years.

He’s outlined up to 200 sure, but if you read articles where he discusses the story he says straight out that he doesn’t strictly follow his outline. For instance, he said at the AZ comic con last weekend that there are times he changes his outline as he goes. For instance certain characters die before he outlined them to die and certain characters live way longer than he outlined. It’s guaranteed that the storyhe outlined a while ago is not the finished product we actually end up reading.

I’m sure I’m in the minority…a female NOT getting all googly-eyed over a dirty-looking, shaggy-haired hick with a crossbow. He’s cool, but certainly not eye candy for me! As to whether or not I feel he should be written into the comics, it really makes me no difference, as long as Merle is written in with him. The two should be a package deal! BUT, according to some of these comments, looks like there may be another character in the comics who’s already handling a crossbow. In that case, I think there should only be one, to keep it unique.

It would be so great to bring the Dixon boys to the comic

If Daryl comes to the comics, I hope he dies in his first panel.

Leave Daryl on the screen, the comics are strong without him.

How about a Dixon Brother’s spin off comic. It could be like the video game. Add me to it too, long bow and cross bow forever!
