The Walking Dead 139 is out this week! This post is here for you, dear reader, to discuss this issue as soon as you get your gentle little paws on it. Lots of speculation from you guys after that preview. What predictions will hold true? I feel like a lot of you were only half right…

Let us know what you felt, what you pondered, what you think will happen next, what you’re doing with your life, your to-do list*, whatever! Our favorite comment will receive, in the mail, something Walking Dead related, probably slightly damaged because we’re slobs, signed by the author and creator of The Walking Dead, Richard Kirkland (or whatever his name is)!

*If you post your life goals or to-do list you probably will not be our favorite comment, unless it’s flipping awesome.

I think that in this boat came some fisherman, so Rick is very happy because he at least can eat some delicious lobster that Lori uses to prepare by his birthday and he has a very long time to not taste it, so he will yell Andrea to do some from him and if she doesn’t do it right she will be exiled

This issue gave me chills! I got so happy when michonne appeared on the boat and i love how it went deeper into her past. I also love how Rick is still being straight up with her and telling her that it wasn’t ok to just get up and leave without informing anybody. Also any thoughts on whats to come for Carl?

    It’s March 25,
    And we’re all freaking out.
There’s a BOAT on the cover!
    What’s THIS all about?
    —–
    Ezekiel! Wow!
We’ve not seen HIM for a while.
Since he returned to the Kingdom,
    Away many a mile.
    —–
    But there’s one thing missing:
    He’s completely alone.
    Yes, he’s with friends,
    But where is Michonne?
    —–
    “Hey Zeke, what’s up?
    ‘Tis your good friend Rick!
    The sailors that’re coming,
    Have not been quick.”
    —–
    “Hi, Rick, how are you?
    “Bullets cheap?” he asked.
    “Don’t you dare question that!
    Only we can cast!”
    —–
    “Hey Grimes, chill out,
    Just flappin’ my lips.
    Let’s talk about other stuff,
While we wait for the ship.”
    —–
    “Oh God, are you serious?
    He left on my watch?
    Hey Dante, shut up!
    I DON’T want your crotch!”
    —–
    Carl, in the woods,
    Has a quick napping session…
    Wait, he sees Alpha already?
    Speedy storyline progression!
    —–
    The boat zeroes in.
    Ezekiel’s sweating.
    He’s found this development,
    Rather upsetting.
    —–
    Lo and behold!
    Oh my! It’s Michonne!
We now know where she is!
    It’s no longer unknown!
    —–
    In the last few years,
    Something big’s gone down.
    Once her sweet lover,
She looks at Zeke with a frown.
    —–
“Yes, I know I was cruel,
    I shouldn’t have left,
But a life with His Majesty,
    Would be a little bereft…”
    —–
    “But why, Michonne?
    With him you were happy.
    What changed your mind,
    And made you so snappy?”
    —–
    “You don’t understand, Rick.
    My daughters are missing.
    In my mind, that thought
    I’ll never be dismissing.”
    —–
    So the issue ends,
    On a sorrowful note.
But “Don’t cry because it’s over”
    That’s a Dr. Seuss quote!

The comic book store is not open yet so I haven’t read it yet but my 3rd eye tells me that Maggie will be standing in disgust saying “Are you fucking kidding me with this?!” referring to “SPOILER ALERT”, so as you can see, they were not kidding 🙁

Carl needs to learn how to sneak around better but he has one eye and is found by the whispers. Carl is just leaning on a tree with his head down.

Finally, I see Rick saying “They’re here”, standing waiting for Ezekiel and a fisherman named…I can not see it clearly Etep. Something like that. Oh and Michonne is there too.

My apologies, my powers are limited and that is all I can see at this time…I will be able to see more in an hour and 35 minutes when the comic book store opens.

Aside from the fact I don’t think the ages match for this to make sense, I think it’d be super cheesy if they tried to turn this into a *thing* where all of a sudden Michonne’s missing children that she just now mentioned for the first time appears against all odds. Nah.

reason number one they both like to cover themselves in zombie wear, you know like blood and skin
reason number 2 the person that was under the mask was a female that look very much like michonne, for a minute we thought it was her but it was not so this must be her daughter.

I might have missed a lot of issues since 127. there was a 2 year gap from issue 126 and 127 so michonne has at least 2 daughters and they are all grown up already?

        • Tonnie2NA says:

She makes it seem like her daughters are children, making them seem defenseless and totally reliant on their dad for protection when she was talking about them.
I’m not sure how they would have had the same camouflage idea as their mom, unless Michonne really liked watching silence of the lambs with them (plus michonne never actually covered herself). And it also seems unlikely that they migrated from Atlanta to DC with a strange bald white lady named Alpha. That is a stranger danger alert if I’ve ever seen one

That makes little to no sense. Her children are likely long dead as she “checked out” of their lives before the apocalypse was ever an issue. And let’s not forget geographically we’re kind of far from where we started from. I don’t think her kids, if they had grown up and survived, would just “happen” to bump into Michonne.

YO HO, YO HO, A PIRATE’S LIFE FOR ME!!! Michone is looking awesome as a pirate!! While reading this issue I was hoping to see Ezekiel and Michonne together with a new pet, maybe Shiva 2?! I’m curious to see what Dwight and his Saviors have been upto. Rick mentioned something about lumber, so maybe they’ve been busy chopping trees? Maybe building more houses and even ships? It seems that Rick’s army has gotten even bigger and stronger over the years and if they do ever get into a fight with Alpha and her Whisperers, I’d be certainly excited for All Out War Part 2. Maybe both sides will both battle it out on the ocean with cannons blazing! Maybe Negan escapes and joins the Whisperers and seek out vengeance against Dwight and his former group. On the cover for issue #140 it looks like the poison that Gregory gave Maggie is taking its effect. It kinda looks like a xenomorph is going BURST out her chest!!! I can’t wait for the next issue!!! #apirateslifeforme

Disappointing issue. While it’s refreshing to have additional history on Michonne and the past two years, her guilt over her family has been brought up previously and feels like a very weak excuse for leaving the community. With a two year fast-forward, we had a chance at creating some fast paced drama to introduce into the continuity. Perhaps a truly devastating fallout between Ezekiel/Michonne/Rick as a result of losing someone or other underlying events that could be building to another climax.

Yes, the Whisperers are great. Yes, Carl heading off on his own and possibly turning against the group in the future is great. But Michonne and Ezekiel failing to hug it out? Boring and uninspiring. I need to go back to reading trades. Everything goes so slowly in these floppies.

    Reply
    • Neutral-Grey says:

No, it hasn’t. Other than her boyfriend being one of the walkers she was introduced with we’ve received almost ZERO background info on Michonne’s personal life.

Furthermore, creating some “terrible” event between that two year timeskip would be a terrible idea. If it was such an “important” event the comic should have covered it. The timeskip happened because a stretch of time was needed where nothing much happened.

You sound like you’re just bitching to bitch.

Such a great issue. One of my favorite covers, and one of my favorite issues.
The best part was seeing Michonne again. The second best part… Seeing all of the mail in the back that was mostly filled with emails that were sent in a few months back where the fan is either pissed off about not knowing where michonne is, is asking “where is Michonne?” Or is saying “Bring back Michonne!” Haha that was great.

‘Zeke knocked Rosita up, told Michonne that he would leave Rosita (abandoning his child, cough, cough) to stay with Michonne. Michonne, being the strong woman she is, put that weight on herself, by feeling that taking ‘Zeke from his child would be just as bad as her abandoning the baby herself. That conflict stirs up the old feelings and that’s why she is just breaking her past down for us. So once she realizes she doesn’t want to be responsible for another abandoned child, she did the only thing she felt she could do; separate from ‘Zeke in a way that he can’t come get her. Rick Doesn’t know the whole story, which is why he doesn’t understand what’s ‘Zeke’s problem, or why Mee-Shawn is bringing up old stuff n thangs.

    HOW’S THAT FOR A PREDICTION

plus, for the people saying that they wish they would get to see the water, I am also predicting we get some issues of Michonne on the high seas in the near future. Kirkman called this issue a “game changer” and i think it will involve stories on the water, fishing, and possibly looking for other communities and survivors.

even BOLDIER, I believe that Negan will outlive Rick (try me kirkman). I also think Rick will die in the next two volumes (not including this one), and we are in a race right now to see if Carl will see Rick again before he dies, basically.

This is Carl Grimes we’re talking about. He’s not afraid of being out there on his own. Translation: this is Carl Grimes we’re talking about. The most bad ass teenager in the apocalyptic world. There’s nothing to query about when it comes to him chasing a group of people Dressed in walker skin. What’s the worst that can happen. I mean besides him getting his head blown off with a double barreled sawed off shotgun. Or getting savagely stabbed to death by maniacs. Did i mention they’re dressed in walker skin. At least he knows where to point the dangerous end of his gun. Oh yea and somebody tell Michonne get her shit together… oh wait Rick Grimes has it under control. Awesome issue i friggin loved it

This issue had me on a mini emotional roller coaster thanks to those first few panels, cheers Robert Kirkman. Great introduction to the new story arc, hints of trading especially as they’re tons of fresh fish by the sound of it. More character progression from Michonne (What/who is she looking for?) and even more hints of Rick’s take no crap attitude sneaking out. I LOVE IT!

My favourite issue after the time skip so far. When I first saw the cover back in December I was stunned! That cover just left me without any words to say, and the title was also shocking, because it meant we may get to see other parts of the world so that we could know how’s going on everywhere. For example in the North the situation might be better, as well as on some islands.
I read the issue as fast as I could because I couldn’t resist getting to know what was going to happen!
I was so happy to see Ezekiel and Michonne again ( my favourite female character! i’m a proud owner of the #94 Black & White Expo Michonne variant, which is so cool!), and pirate Michonne was so freaking cool! I had already figured out she was on the boat, but obviously I couldn’t be 100% sure… Seeing her there was a relief. It’s also interesting that even though it’s been 4-7 ( it’s not clear yet) year since the outbreak she still thinks about her ex husband and children. It’s so sad that she can’t stop thinking about them and finally being happy again. I can’t wait to see the “After time skip” character again!
Carl’s scene was pretty scary, but the boy can take care of himself. Looking forward to get to know more about the Whisperers.
I enjoyed the issue so much that I read it at least 5 times, and I’m probably reading it again after this post.
After buying it digitally I’ve bought the retail issue as well ( I usually get only paper issues because I prefer reading them after a long day at college, on my first relax moment, enjoying every page), but since I don’t live in an English speaking country I have to order it from the USA, and the shipping takes at least 15 days, but I couldn’t wait to read this “Game changer” issue! I had in mind to get a signed issue on eBay, but being a little short of money at the moment I can’t afford it. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for winning it thanks to you skybound guys!

It was a long post, but it could be summarized in this way: HOLY SH**T, HERE IS MICHONNE!!!!

    😀

I’m a little dissappointed with this issue. It leaves me with a lot more questions than answers and seems to be setting up a big Michonne story line. I also don’t like the “new” Rick, he’s turned into a real douche bag! It seems that he’s bought into all those “press clippings” about being the great and legendary “RICK GRIMES” and he’s lost what was so special about him… his humanity. I see tyrant Rick on the horizon.

It’s crazy that in season 3 of The Walking Dead episode 12 “Clear”, Morgan tells Rick of people wearing dead people’s faces. The greatest foreshadowing so far! Are The Whisperers the “Wolves” in the tv show? Or are the “Wolves” the “Scavengers”. Sometimes it’s hard not getting mixed up between the show and the comic. I’m a big fan of each! Can’t wait too see what happens next in each mediums.

who’s to say that they didn’t check all of them already? thats like saying “theres cars everywhere… why are they walking???” just because there are a bunch of cars everywhere doesn’t mean they work, i.e. just because the boats are there, it doesnt mean that they work. pretty dumb comment. Seriously.

Hmmm… this issue left me trying to decide if I like Michonne more or less. I’ve seen her, now I’m already ready to go back to Carl & Negan. Oh & bring on the fair!

    Life Goals:
I’ve never been to a comicon… I’m going & I hope Skybound will be there!
I’m trying my damnedest to get my show-only buddies into the comics! One buddy recently bought the 1st 5 volumes, so that’s a good sign!

    To-Do List:
Issue 137 caused me to “upgrade” from digital to print. My New Year’s Resolution was to fill in some gaps on print issues with 1st Prints. I’ve managed to go back to Issue #93. Issue #92 is being a bitch to land, but I’m not giving up (Life Goal, too)! Time to find another one to bid on!
A large display rack for all my cool Walking Dead loot is in the works!
I gotta buy a few more of those building set blind packs & hope that I land the ones I’m missing (that damn Daryl is MIA!).
I need to get caught up on the Season 4 DVD Special Features… will do that while I wait for the spin-off/companion.
I should thank one of the sources of my favorite indulgence… THANK YOU, SKYBOUND! (done!)

I love the dynamic between Rick and Michonne…and where the comic and tv show is in relation to one another. It has reached that point in the show where Michonne has had to put the smack down, literally, on Rick to try and keep his head where it needs to be. The story in the comic has reached a similar point but with reversed roles as Rick has had to lay the smack down (figuratively) on Michonne to keep her head right. I love that Rick is returning the favor in way. Or even more so, Rick and Michonne have that close bond where they are able to say what needs to be said in order to keep each other sane and safe. What a great moment to be Michonne’s reappearance into the story!
