Can you guys make a variant for issue 132 and use that blue background above instead of the yellow. I like the original, but that blue is just awesome. -Alex

Awesome development. Yes, I patiently wait until comixology puts this online at 9:00am and read it right away. I wasn’t sure where this talking zombie thing was going and was hoping they weren’t jumping the shark with actual talking zombies or some sort of surgical or technological reason for it. But, wow, I love this direction. Walking dead keeps surprising me.

One question: When Dante killed that walker-dude guy and removed his “mask” Was it Ken? It’s hard to say with all that blood on his face but he looked like an asian-american. And Ken looked like asian-american too.

But that issue was just CRRRRAZY! Man! That was intense! Also that panel where the walker-dude said: “You’ll be dead soon yourself. Then you’ll see.”. It made me cry like a baby, because it was so awesomely drawn and it was creepy as fuck!

    Reply
    • JW Coombs says:

Wow, good thinking. I wonder if maybe you’re right?

But how could they have gotten Ken to turn so quickly? I know he was definitely descending into madness already; is Marco is any indicator. But how would they convince him to join them; walk amongst the dead and then attack his own people? I wonder if they’re cannibals and ate him? Or gave him to the surrounding walkers to appease them and get them to lie in wait?

      Reply
      • Zimovski says:

Yeah, so many questions! I’m pretty sure they are cannibals. It is quite possible that they ate Ken. I also just remembered that zombie Duane is out there, somewhere… That’s just creepy. I mean surely it had a purpose, other than to show just how mad Morgan had become….

Does everybody here realize that because this issue got bumped up a week, it just means we have to wait an extra week to find out what happens with these new, for lack of a better term, zombie people? It’s agonizing! This entire issue was more or less Dante and co. fighting, and then the big reveal/cliffhanger at the end! I really gotta know what happens… Oh well. Anyway, I’m glad the new villains are more feral, like the Hunters. I enjoyed that storyline far more than the Governor or Negan, who had established societies (sort of). Although, maybe this new group has a zombie city? I really have no idea. Either way…. Hurry up Issue 133.

I agree. This issue ended too quickly (It was awesome, though.) And waiting is painful. I also agree about the hunters and those new guys.

This is interesting… And the repercussions are terrifying. We know the zombies are herd animals. If one zombie has that rare moment of doing something on his own others will see it and follow that lead. Which is why you can have herds potentially miles long.

But these people. They’re in it. They’re fully capable of thought. And with that, they can control entire herds of roamers/walkers just by being a leading and thinking example. These people… They might be batshit crazy (from what we’ve seen) but their potential as a threat is unparalleled.

Which is why I don’t understand how they can keep themselves fed. They’re not coming across people every day, so what do they eat in between? And when they DO find someone, how do they manage to eat enough without fighting off ACTUAL zombies (who are also wanting to feed) and giving themselves away?

How it was all set up with an established formation & the fight sequences was super!! The scene with Rick & Maggie was beautiful & so different than what we’ve been seeing from the start! The suspense of Andrea’s conversation with Magna will have me anxiously waiting for that next issue! Excellent!!!

If you’re not reading Letter Hacks, this is what you’re missing:

I love hearing stories like this, of readers coming from the TV show (or wherever, Telltale, etc.) and then word of mouth and sharing the books gets the ball rolling. You’re like
human dung beetles, rolling the giant ball of shit uphill until it’s even bigger. But like, it’s not a bad thing, because dung beetles LOVE shit. — Mackiewicz

This was an AWESOME issue! I think I say that every time but SERIOUSLY, just when I think Kirkman couldn’t be any more of a fucking comic GOD he elevates my admiration for him even more. Also the art…Charlie outdid himself on this one. My first thought when I saw the walker skin mask was of Silence of the Lambs. Walkers at the bottom of a well and a psycho lowering them a basket of lotion: “It rubs the lotion on it’s skin or else it gets the hose again.” This is going to be really bad.

I’ve never cried when reading TWD. Not even when Glenn died. So when I got to this image I literally stared at it for about a minute and I’ll be damned if I didn’t tear up. This is now probably one of my top 5 favorite images in the series. They’ve finally gotten to a place where they are at peace and are starting to really live again instead of just survive. Obviously some major shit is about to go down and ruin their entire fucking life.

To me, this was one of the most shocking issues of TWD. When I see the zombies having the knives I was really scare, In 130 i thought it was people I never imagine that they used the zombie skin.Reading 132 was like watching Sooby Doo but mystery unsolved, If you see the next issues covers Hilltop will a big shocker without knowing thst the talking zombies are a fake and possibly they’re gonna feel pretty stupid that they believe that thing.

Negan could be freed and wind up playing the hero in this situation. Would Carl still want to kill him and would Rick still want to jail him?

No matter what, Robert Kirkman will always manage to do something either the complete opposite of what everyone wants or expects to happen, or something completely new that no one can even possibly think would happen. Was actually surprised at least we the readers got an answer to the mystery of the “Whispering Dead” so quickly. I guess Kirkman didn’t learn much from his days working from Marvel that the reveal should have been at least a six issue affair in and of itself 😉 Seriously. a great issue and either sets up a new group to oppose “Grimesburg” or to be folded in. Love the world building and the ongoing story as always. Walking Dead remains atop my read pile any week it comes out and I see no reason for that to change any time soon. Great issue.

“Whisperers”? “Skin Walkers”? Could these people actually be The Saviors? Or is it just Halloween in The Walking Dead? So many questions…

I liked Andrea’s little talk with Magna, it really showed that she isn’t a person to be fucked with. I also really like Dante so far and I hope Kirkman doesn’t kill him off, we need another “lovable asshole” character in The Walking Dead.

I will say I’m a little disappointed that the Walkers can’t actually talk, because that could have changed everything. But, now that I think about it…regardless if they could talk they would still have bad eye sight and walk slow.

    Also: Poor copycat Rick Grimes.

I wonder if the ‘Skin Walkers’ have anything to do with Magna and her group. Like, maybe Magna was on the run from them or they were part of her old group, she did say things began to ‘go bad’ in the nursing home. I was also thinking, as some others were, that maybe they are Saviors…maybe some that Dwight exiled or whatnot, and they had to survive somehow. I even had the quick thought that maybe the Skin Walker with the gun was Michonne XD Until I looked at the flat chest anyway… 😛
This issue had me jumping in my chair. Whew! The reveal of the stitches on the back of that (girl’s?) head was so damn creepy! I’m starting to like Dante too. The sunset scene was so sweet but made me sad because I know they’re all going to be in misery soon. *sniff*

What I’m wondering is where will Negan fit in all this, because you know Kirkman kept him alive for reason. I think he might work with Rick against this new group, but he’ll have a big part Kirkman is too smart to keep useless characters around. But I really liked how this issue shows that the world is still dangerous and that they’re still not 100% safe. Plus the twist at the end was intense when the “Walkers” started attacking back. I like how they contrasted the safety and danger in this issue. I also thought it was a nice touch how the last five issues gave readers this false sense of security and then just rips it away with a new concept to TWD. All in all I thought this article was wonderfully drawn, written, and all the other hard work put into comic books. I can’t wait for issue 133, Mr Kirkman, you have yet to fail me with your wonderful writing abilities.

Speechless. That’s what 132 left me after I was done with it.
Robert Kirkman, I applaud you, I would’ve never seen this coming, a new story line is here and it’s gonna be yet another bumpy ride ;P
Robert always finds a way to step it up, The Walking Dead team always outdo themselves and that’s one of the main reasons this series is so huge.
“We whisper and the dead don’t mind. You’ll see”
Who are these people?! not only are they creepy as hell, but they were among the actual dead attacking the search party. Using the walkers’ skin as masks, oh my god… I’m still mind blown! I seriously can’t wait to see where this is going, it’s gonna be one of the biggest things to happen to this series, and I’m already looking froward to seeing how this is going to be adapted to television. Speaking of which, SEASON 5 IN LESS THAN 10 DAYS BABY, WOOO!
So we still have Negan, now these new survivors, and most importantly (to me anyway) Michonne’s unknown whereabouts.

While I found this issue to be one of the freakiest and page-turningest yet, it’s not believable that the skin-wearing people would not yell or scream when being stabbed.

Um, they do. Hence the title for issue #134-“From Whispers to Screams”

also, what if they had a pimple or a cut or some walker juice got in their eye from the face-mask they all are wearing, seems too risky.

The Walking Dead post-war has been great so far. The thing I find most interesting after reading Issue 132 is not just the introduction of the “Talkers”, but their tactic of wearing the skins of dead Walkers. In my opinion, this will be a persistent threat in The Walking Dead’s universe as long as there are Walkers.
Also, I really enjoyed the storytelling as Rick and Maggie and company were watching the sun set. Did anybody else experience a sense of foreboding? As if this was the end of the good times and two year period of growth? From here on out, I anticipate things are going to be brutal.
Still pulling for my Andrea! As far as I’m concerned, her head is still on the chopping block. I’m really glad we’re getting two chapters this month, even though I’m aware I might not like whatever may occur.

Has anyone considered that this might be Michone? I mean, think about it. The whisper had a sword, and is using walker camouflage. Two things that Michone is known for.

It’s funny you say that. Although I highly doubt it; I remember thinking to myself that the whisperer at the end of the issues appear to be african-american underneath that mask.

Its weird- seeing the two guys with Doug get killed actually made me sad like back in the early comics. I thought All Out War wouldve desensitized me forever with TWD, but i guess the time jump and peacefulness pulled me back in

Anyone else think this could be Michonne? Rick’s statement about Michonne last issue seemed to hint that there may have been some form of falling out between her and the rest of the group and she was the first survivor to disguise herself amongst the walkers…

It’s funny you say that. See my post below; me and another person were speculating about this as well.

The person behind the mask certainly appears to be of African-American persuasion.

Welp I see these guys coming in and messin shit up for sure. But do you all see what might be coming. An unnerving truce between Negan and Rick possibly.

Honestly, while most people are staunchly opposed to the possibility of such a merger; I for one have always had a small glimmer of hope that these two iconoclasts, and borderline megalomaniacs(Rick too) would be able to finally settle their differences, regardless of the past, and their past transgressions against others, and one another. I think it would be unlike anything we ever saw in this story.

Imagine the possibilities, the sheer potential for raw, unadulterated and unstoppable power. The amazing feats they could have accomplished together. It’s basically like Rick was saying at the end of AOW in issue #126; when he was convincing Negan that divided they would surely kill each other, but united, they could have the world and then some. I believe that. Could you imagine the possibilities if Negan were to become a part of something, and follow rules and take orders and march forward not for himself but for the good of all? It’s like Joe said to Daryl in season 4–

“When men like us follow rules; the world becomes ours.”

These zombie herders are trouble. They are sizing up the communities and are getting ready to really test the strength of our survivors. Perhaps they want to show our survivors that they are weaker than they thought, that they do no have the ability to advance into the future without some help. But from who? Someone wants the nation’s capital, and I think they want it back. The remnants of any sort of government have yet to be seen. And while they may not want to annihilate our beloved survivors, they certainly want dominion over them. Some members of the community will naturally and instinctually be drawn back to the government while others will viciously oppose.
Another thought is that it is a grudge driven attack on the communities. Will we finally see the wrath of the fabled Alexander Davidson?

    • JW Coombs says:

Nope. Kirkman confirmed, once and for all that Alexander Davidson is dead. He made that statement at the same time he confirmed that Andrew from the prison was dead as well.

“Davidson was the second character whose death was announced by Robert Kirkman; the first was Andrew, one of the prison inmates”

I must admit when I thought that maybe, perhaps the zombies might be talking I was prepared to be disappointed and angry. That would have been a ridiculous “twist”. Oh how wrong that assumption was! I was starting to wonder what the next possible villain could be. I’m not disappointed.
