Tales from Skybound: Brian

Hey guys, it's me, Brian, your friendly neighborhood Online Editorial Director. You ever act all confident about writing an editorial for the comic book company you work for and then when it comes time to actually write it you have absolutely no idea what to write? No? Well me neither because I always know EXACTLY what I'm going to do. HaHA! You see what I did there? Classic misdirection.

First, let's address that opening sentence, specifically the part where I say "comic book company." Because essentially, that's what Skybound has been, but Skybound is growing. True, we've been involved in televsion with AMC's The Walking Dead (and Robert's a big part of that still), and video games with Telltale's awesome Walking Dead series and with The Walking Dead Assault, but those were, for the most part, carried out by outside companies with our creative input.

Tales from Skybound: Rachel

What up, Skybound!

We probably haven’t met yet, because I’m Rachel, the new Office Manager around these parts. I’m really happy to be here joining the ranks with some of my favorite humans and favorite comic books.

Currently, I’m coming down from the crazy high of Sunday’s THE WALKING DEAD finale and all the excitement surrounding it. Can I be honest? I wanted to hug Hershel when I saw him on screen. Did you see that coming? Also, that moment between Michonne and Carl was really fantastic. Carl, dude. I mourn for your youth. Hang in there, buddy.

Now, you might be wondering, what am I ever going to do without my weekly fix of Rick Grimes!? Well, you’re in luck! Together we can survive the next six months.

Here are some suggestions for activities to fill the void:

1)     Laugh through this feeling of pain and loss you’re experiencing. Check out this awesome animated video from College Humor “What You Wish Would Happen on the Walking Dead.”

2)     Video game binge! I get it, you’ve played the games already, but you’re grieving, so go use this opportunity to relive the magic. Go get your hands on The Walking Dead: Seasons 1 & 2 from Telltale.  If you’re on Android, you can get Season One FREE on Amazon, here.  Is this enough to entice you?

3)     Drink heavily! No, this is terrible advice! But I do think this is a pretty incredible concoction from Philadelphia’s Dock Street Brewery.  They created an American Pale Stout called the “Dock Street Walker” that’s made with wheat, oats, barley, cranberry and SMOKED GOAT BRAINS! Yum? Maybe.

Until next time, good luck out there!

-Rachel

IT'S SPRING AGAIN

Which means flowers and sun showers and the start of convention season. Over six months of hand shaking and signature scribbling and as much loot as you can squirrel away in your luggage. Of everyone in the comic industry getting together at the end of a day to share stories—successes and failures and…weird stuff—and remind ourselves that behind all the colorful characters are a ton of talented people.

Which brings us to Emerald City Comic Con next week. Skybound's road cases are already packed, our exclusive comics already rolling through the printer, and our signing schedules set in stone. Some of my favorite Skybound creators will be there—Josh Williamson, Joe Keatinge, Paul Azaceta, Cory Walker, Matteo Scalera, Ryan Ottley, Stefano Gaudiano, Dave Stewart—and the less shy ones will join me on the Skybound panel to talk past and present and future projects. And I'm sure there will be some A/V failure, as anyone who's attended one of my panels has experienced.

Tales from Skybound: Tanya

Greetings!

I’m Tanya, or Lil-t if you ask my brothers, but why would you? I just recently began working at Skybound a little over a month ago. As my first “grown up” job, Skybound has proved to be such a fun environment to come to everyday with such brilliant people that I get to call co-workers (I’m still fangirling a bit).

I guess you could say comics are in my genetics. My grandfather, Frank Thorne, brought Red Sonja back to life in her Marvel Feature and also created his own characters; most notably Ghita of Alizarr for Fantagraphic Books. His dedication and imagination still inspire me to this day. After enduring too many harsh winters in my hometown in Pennsylvania, I set out for LA to pursue my aspirations in entertainment.

Tales from Skybound: Lizzy

Greetings, world wide web!

It's a not particularly well-kept secret that I run our aesthetically appealing @SkyboundEnt Instagram account. Given that comics are a visual medium, I always have something to be 'gramming!

Now as a special treat that you didn't know you wanted, here is my photographic review of fall/winter 2013 at Skybound! Sure, this would have been more appropriate as 2013 came to a close, but we're doing it two weeks after the New Year because Instagram is about being unique and I am nothing if not hip*.

My first week at Skybound was amazing! For one, there were cupcakes. For two, we were on the cusp of ALL OUT WAR. And for three, cupcakes.
