Interview with Chris Dingess

Skybound sat down with writer Chris Dingess to discuss the end of the first arc of MANIFEST DESTINY, where the series is going in future issues, and, most importantly, when he's going to finally name the letters page.

1. Congrats on wrapping up an amazing first arc! What was your favorite part about working on the series so far?

There have been many wonderful things about this experience so far.  I've learned so much about writing for comics from Robert, Sean, Sina and Helen. But I would have to say my favorite part is watching Matt Roberts do spectacular work to bring my writing to life.  It's always a surprise and a pleasure to see his panels come in. And Owen Gieni's work is stunning as well! And Pat Brosseau! ...I'm terrible at picking "one thing."

2. Looking back, were there any historical tidbits you stumbled on that you wanted to include, but couldn’t find a way to fit them in?

Not so much, as far as factual tidbits go. I want to find organic spots to drop flashbacks into the book to show the mission in it's cradle; to see Lewis, Clark and the crew before the mission began.  But once the current adventure gets rolling, it's hard to take a break from the action to go back in time.

3. You set up Clark’s dark past at the end of this issue… will we learn more about what haunts him in the upcoming arc?

In the next arc we see a flicker, literally a flicker, of the past that haunts him. I plan to wade deeper into these waters as the book progresses.

Tales from Skybound: Rachel

What up, Skybound!

We probably haven’t met yet, because I’m Rachel, the new Office Manager around these parts. I’m really happy to be here joining the ranks with some of my favorite humans and favorite comic books.

Currently, I’m coming down from the crazy high of Sunday’s THE WALKING DEAD finale and all the excitement surrounding it. Can I be honest? I wanted to hug Hershel when I saw him on screen. Did you see that coming? Also, that moment between Michonne and Carl was really fantastic. Carl, dude. I mourn for your youth. Hang in there, buddy.

Now, you might be wondering, what am I ever going to do without my weekly fix of Rick Grimes!? Well, you’re in luck! Together we can survive the next six months.

Here are some suggestions for activities to fill the void:

1)     Laugh through this feeling of pain and loss you’re experiencing. Check out this awesome animated video from College Humor “What You Wish Would Happen on the Walking Dead.”

2)     Video game binge! I get it, you’ve played the games already, but you’re grieving, so go use this opportunity to relive the magic. Go get your hands on The Walking Dead: Seasons 1 & 2 from Telltale.  If you’re on Android, you can get Season One FREE on Amazon, here.  Is this enough to entice you?

3)     Drink heavily! No, this is terrible advice! But I do think this is a pretty incredible concoction from Philadelphia’s Dock Street Brewery.  They created an American Pale Stout called the “Dock Street Walker” that’s made with wheat, oats, barley, cranberry and SMOKED GOAT BRAINS! Yum? Maybe.

Until next time, good luck out there!

-Rachel
