Leap of Faith

Skybounders,

It is with far too many emotions that I announce my departure from Skybound.  As some of you may be aware, I sometimes write and draw my own books.  I aim to do a lot more of that, more often.  The past two and a half years have been an amazing experience, and my choice to leave comes from the same reason I joined up with Kirkman to begin with: creativity.

Robert's short pitch for working at Skybound entailed the following responsibilities: being his editor and tracking schedules, making sure nothing has errors, and working with new talents to publish the most unique and authentic projects in the industry.  The job certainly did deliver: I've now become acquainted with sincerely professional, astounding people in the industry, all of whom get paid to make excellent funny books.  This fascinating experience, however, kept reminding me how much I wanted to do what Kirkman & co were doing.

After so many months, that desire overwhelmed- so much so that without much thought for my own well-being, I told Robert that I needed to move on, and officially give creating comics a shot.  Not an easy thing to say to the guy who is essentially the industry's most talked about personality... but his response was the following:

"I of all people can't be mad at you for wanting to pursue your dreams."

Shawn Kirkham Answers 7 Questions with Sina Grace

For this week’s “Seven Questions” segment, I wanted to give you all a little more inside information about one of our behind-the-scenes peeps, Shawn Kirkham!  You’ve seen a ton of his posts on the site, and probably had a great experience with him at conventions. Shawn works as our Director of Business Development here at Skybound HQ.  You wanna know how that goes?  Read below!

1- First off, Shawn, tell us your background.  How did you get into the comics industry? 

 I’ve been a lifelong fan of two things: music and comics.  Well… also Lego and cupcakes, but that’s another story.  Anyway, I was lucky enough to spend eight years working at major record labels here in Los Angeles.  Then a few years ago, one of my closest friends (thanks Sina) asked if I wanted to volunteer at SDCC for Skybound.  I of course said yes, and after working a year’s worth of conventions for free, Robert and JJ asked if I wanted to make the jump from music to comics.  My answer was yes, and here I am working in a dream job.

The Walking Dead #97-99 Reprints

The first three issues of the series-changing "Something to Fear" story arc of THE WALKING DEAD will receive second printings with covers that will combine to find a large, landscape image. Issues #97, 98, and 99 of Robert Kirkman's zombie juggernaut, published by Image Comics/Skybound, have sold out. The reprint covers for #97-99, which will combine to depict the villain Negan and his now-infamous baseball bat, Lucille, are by series artist Charlie Adlard.

THE WALKING DEAD #100 became the best-selling comic in fifteen years when it sold more than 380,000 copies in July.

The reprints of THE WALKING DEAD #97-99 are scheduled to be in stores on August 22  and are available for pre-order now with the Diamond codes JUN128147 (#97), JUN128148 (#98), and JUN128149 (#99).
